I thought 2011 would have taught Colts fans the reason why you pay for a good back up QB.
Really? It taught me if you are going to lose, lose BIG.
-
Trade Holmes for a draft pick? Sign Mack?
Trade a guy we drafted in the 4th last year that no one in the league has any tape on....where do you people come from?
-
When will people board the Fire Grigson train?
Maybe you should consult those who started the train that got Marty Schottenheimer fired from the Chargers after a 14-2 season.....that sure worked out well for them.
I honestly don't know what some of you people expect. If you had your way this franchise would be run into the ground and on a plane to LA. You whiners all just like saying things cuz you like the smell of your own farts.
-
This was a smart contract. I think he will play his best football as a Colt. In Grig We (Well I Still Do) Trust.
-
So the Chargers are getting old Colts, the colts are getting former Browns players....this is sad.
They are actually getting two generations of former Browns players by poaching Ravens too...
-
If he turned down 4.5M/year, then he can fly right on to the next team dumb enough to pay and often injured receiver much.
I would be ok with something like 3M/yr base with the possibility of another 3M/yr worth of incentives. It allows us to get some protection against injury, and it lets him bet on himself.
-
I just don't see that in him. He went off the radar for five games after Reggie went down although some of that is on Luck. I think he can be an adequate #2 or a very good slot receiver.
To be fair, the whole team was trying to get their feet under them after Reggie going down. Most of that slack from TY can probably be attributed to Pep trying to figure out how to use him with all the extra attention.
-
If TY does not understand that a big strong route runner with good hands is not going to enhance his role as the speedster over the top guy, then he needs to get some professional perspective. If he is going to worry about some competition then he needs to gain some maturity. I think neither is the case! I'd be more worried about Rogers feeling that the team has little faith in him, but would hope that he would come into camp with something to prove about himself instead of sulking.
Hopefully they both would see it as a move for the team to be better overall and compete for playing time.
Iron sharpens Iron, Man sharpens Man!
I love how you are lecturing TY over some imaginary, hypothetical comment some guy on the internet said.

Another Browns player? OK, I know Mack is a premier C but why are we getting all these Browns players? First Richardson, that's worked out great so far....then Jackson who I'm still not sold on....and now Mack.
Because they were a garbage team that perenially collected early first rounders?

This isn't the Cowboys or Free Agent forum....therefore, wrong forum.
Sorry I'm more of a lurker than a poster, I figured it was OK since I was asking our interest in him as a Colt.
-
Now, at vet minimum... I'd take a flyer if we couldn't land Nicks or Tate.
But he's not gonna play for vet minimum. TMZ will pay him more than that to take pictures of him at McDonalds since he was with one of those famewhore girls or whatnot.
Yeah I didn't specify, but I was thinking vet minimum. Indy just seems like a great redemption spot with their current culture and young talent.
-
Nah, dude's hamstrings are gone.
That's kind of my fear. I was just floating the idea of like a 1 year vet min. If he struggles you shut him down and IR him and walk away with minimal losses. If he manages to stay healthy, you could have a decent bargain. But you are right, the odds are he can't stay healthy.
-
I like the Bradshaw signing...but that is a very good point.
It is a good point. It does make me feel a little better that both of their injuries were so early in the year.
-
Title says it all. I'm intrigued by the possibility of a low risk 1 year contract to see if he can improve his play (probably) and stay healthy (probably not) in a new environment. What are your thoughts?
-
He's thousands of times better than Shields who got the same money from a notoriously frugal (and SMART) front office.
This is a GREAT signing. Along with re-signing Bradshaw and AV, plus signing Jones and D'Qwell, wow.
I agree, I think the Colts were trying to be thrifty and negotiate a deal in the 7 million range because the last year's market for CBs was soft, and they were hoping to capitalize before the market caught up to the new cap numbers. I think what they paid is right inline with his talent and play. Now he just needs to continue improving and playing at the level of the contract he now earned. As long as he doesn't take a major step backwards, I think this is money well spent.

Lol, I have the sunday ticket every year since 1997. I shouldn't need to list off stats, play on the field speaks volumes. Im white so I guess im one of the few that dont have a hard on for davis.
ಠ_ಠ
I guess it's unfair to ask a racist nascar fan to get too bogged down in statistics...
-
I must of watched the cfl then last year cuz he got burned as much as toler did and there must be nothing but average cb's in the nfl then and thats pretty pathetic/sad,good corners get burned once or twice a year,if at all cuz they dont get thrown at much, davis cant say that.
So in other words, you don't have any statistics, but you are right because you own a TV. Got it.
-
I don't think it had anything to do with effort. Donald finally stayed healthy and others got hurt or underperformed and he made the most of his opportunity.
I agree. Donald is a classy guy who loves the game. I think it was a result of everything coming together at the right time to let him showcase his talent.
-
Dumb money, what a waste for a average cb....the other cb's are licking thier chops after this guy lands that kinda money. Oblivious he wanted to break the bank cuz that aint no "hometown discount" cap friendly contract.
If you have some stats to suggest he was an average CB, you should consider sharing them with ProFootballFocus, because their stats have him ranked as the 3rd best CB last year.
-
Go ahead and laugh at me... Im the dark cloud!
Just take a look at who Grigson is paying top dollar to:
RJF, Toler, Landry, Walden. All mediocre players. Traded for Shepard.
Now today he pays Vontae Davis 40 million for another mediocre player.
Resigns Moala, who always stunk and brings back AV for two more years.
Not to mention Richardson.
The only player who was paid "top dollar" was Davis (who PFF ranked as their 3rd best corner). The other contracts were slightly overpaid free agency contracts structured in a friendly way, but none of them really broke the bank. Quit being such a drama queen.

We'll see...
-
But he split duty because of a stubborn coaching staff who didn't want to be proved wrong. And he would at least start as third string on the Colts and would be battling for a starting job on a team like the Raiders.
Donald Brown is way too intelligent to take the money and run to Oakland.
-
I would not trade Andrew Luck for any QB in the league right now based on his progress and potential in only his second year. I think any Colts fan that believes that Andrew Luck right now is the best QB in the league, is being far from objective.
-
Well we definitely need another top WR no question about it...whether or not we have that person on our roster or not will come out by the end of the year...no doubt I'd say if the opportunity arises that I'd take them up.
I know people have rumbled about Titus Young but if PAGS got ahold of this kid and shook some sense into him I'd see that being a good deal...kid can play but man he's made dumb off/on the field mistakes.
NO. He was cut for character issues BY THE LIONS.
Colts off-season should have the AFC put on notice/worried (Article)

Actually that isn't holding. The lineman locking up with the front of the shoulder pads is text book technique they teach since pop Warner. You can see the lineman has his arms extended at 90 degree angles from his body.
In the picture Allen is about to slip past him and his arms would have to extend outside his frame while still holding onto his pads to constitute holding.
