  1. The only reason newton went # 1 in 2011 because luck went back to school. There is no gm who would take newton over luck.

Carolina would've taken Newton #1 regardless.

  2. Fair enough. And that does make sense, considering Cam's freaky size and speed combination. Only saw the Panthers play 4 or 5 times last season, but some of his runs were down right funny (the tackle breaking / having the size to run over defenders). What happened to Stewart and DeAngelo being a top notch 2 headed monster anyway?

Most of it stems from the horrible offensive line play over the past few seasons.

Stewart is always injured. He's only played a handful of games the last 3 seasons. He's still only 27 & has less carries than some guys with only 2 years experience. He's a monster when healthy, the problem is he's never healthy.

Williams is on the wrong side of 30 & has lost his burst of speed. Doesn't help that he isn't a bruiser & can't run behind our line that can't create holes for him.

They'll both be fine in the next year or two. Stewart's cap hit is like $18mil this year in dead money. Hurney was an *. Gettleman will ship them out as soon as he can.

  3. thru 48 games...

    Newton- 25 wins, 13,364 Yd, 92 TD, 48 turnovers

    Manning- 26 wins, 12,538 Yd, 88 TD, 64 turnovers

Damn. Just imagine if Cam was worth a %!!! If he wasn't a laptop stealing, towel moping, bum QB who can't even hold Luck's jock strap he would've really stomped Manning's numbers!!!!

  4. Carolina was 17th in sacks allowed, pretty meh, but produced the 11th best running attack last year. A big part of that is Cam Newton, with the DeAngelo / Stewart duo being less effective than years past, but still more reliable than the Colts' backfield.

The Seahawks though, I don't think any team that combined for over 2,000 rushing yards is a bad oline. They were obviously hurting without a few of their starters for much of the season and did suffer, but they still did enough for Marshawn to do the rest. Although I do recall their pass protection being down right lousy at times, even with Russell Wilson's great mobility. Stats say 23rd most allowed sacks.

Cam Newton broke more tackles than any player in the NFL last year. Without his athleticism, that sack total would've fell near the very bottom. He was hit more than any QB in the pocket.

Carolina's running game would also be best the very bottom without Newton. Take away his runs & Carolina isn't much better, if any, than Indy.

  5. Nah. No one would take Newton over Luck. The only debate would be Luck vs. Rodgers. (And I rarely make such definitive statements.)

That doesn't mean Newton can't be ranked higher than Luck on this list. I'm pretty sure Peyton Manning will be top 3 (he'll probably be #1), but no one would take him over Luck right now either.

Yes they would. He's been more productive than any QB not named Dan Marino in football history thru 3 seasons, & he's done it with little offensive talent around him.

Andrew Luck is a finished product. He played 4 years of college in a pro style offense. Luck is a turnover machine & has accuracy issues.

Newton only played 1 year in college, which was better than anything Luck ever did, & he's still growing & learning the position.

  6. Bottom line is this; If all NFL players were put into an NFL redraft then Andrew Luck would be the first pick. All of this other stuff is just widow decorations.

Carolina, & several other teams, would disagree with that homer statement.

Would several teams take Luck? Sure.

There are plenty out there who would take Newton, too.

  7. I agree with a lot of what you're saying, but this is very false. And that's before you throw in the "literally" part.

Edit: Ryan Kalil, Jordan Gross and Travelle Wharton were very, very good last year, by virtually any metric. The other linemen had issues, and there was lots of movement because of that, but there's no way -- NO WAY -- the Panthers had the worst line in the league. And there's no way their line was worse than the Colts.

    Kalil- top 5 C

    Gross- top 10 LT

Wrong about Wharton, though. He was complete garbage last year, especially in the passing game. He was out of shape and played like a mid 30s guy who had been out of the game. He benefited from playing between Gross & Kalil.

Chandler & Bell were beyond horrible. Just atrocious.

And there was absolutely no depth behind them.

Carolina's line was bottom 5 in the league as a whole. They were bad. If Cam weren't a huge athletic freak he would've ended up on IR. I'm not sure any other QB plays all 48 games behind Carolina's line the last 3 years.

    Bottom line.......

Cam has been hit in the pocket more than any QB in the NFL the last 3 years, & by a large margin.

Cam has led his team in rushing yards & rushing TDs 2 of 3 seasons.

Saying that Cam has a good offensive line & running game is being laughable. He doesn't. Making crap up to prop up Luck is pretty sad. They're both great young QBs.

  8. wilson and cam have a strong running game, good oline, and an elite defense. three things luck doesnt have

Carolina had literally the worst offensive line in football last season. They had a 3rd string LG & RG, & a backup RT. Carolina had a * poor running game. The QB & FB were more productive than the RB. Cam had 4 4th Q game-winning drives, the same # as Luck last season. The defense didn't "carry" Newton. Carolina's only legit WR was a 5'9 34 great old who was playing with a bum knee.

There's no need to make up a bunch of crap that isn't remotely true to make Luck look better.

Carolina's starting LG, RG, RT were all on IR by September.

LG Wharton- 33-year old FA who hasn't played in over a year due to a torn ACL

RG Chandler- defensive tackle who had never played offensive line in his life

RT Bell- undrafted Guard from a D-2 school

Stewart, the starting RB, only played 4 games due to injury. Williams played most games, & was very ineffective & on the wrong side of 30. Newton & fullback Tolbert carried the running game.

Carolina had one of the most mediocre receiving cores in the league.

  9. You measure leadership by what your "leader" does when faced with adversity.

Andrew Luck (When facing adversity): Leads comebacks, continuously trying to get his guys going on the sidelines, & cheering for his defense while the Colts offense is on the sidelines.

    Cam Newton (When facing adversity):

    cam-newton-fantasy.jpg

Now I'll give him his credit, Cam did get a little better with maturity this year not gonna deny it. But this is his 4th year now in the league coming up & he still has a lot of growing up to do whereas Andrew has been an excellent leader.

Has nothing to do with being a "homer" as the forum calls it, it's stating facts. Both QB's do take different approaches to adversity

    :rantoff:

    :colts:

Cam Newton has always had a towel over his head when he's on the sideline, whether he's winning by 100 or losing by 100, going all the way back to when he was in high school.

Ever heard of "Wanna be like Mike"? Newton does it because it's what his favorite athlete, Michael Jordan, used to do when he played for the Bulls.

Why/how the media spins him putting a towel over his head to pouting is ridiculous.

But glad to see you're bringing up crap from 2-3 years ago. Watch his sideline interactions or press conferences, win or lose, from last season. He changed completely. He grew into a leader. And it wasn't just the team going 12-4, they started 1-3 and he was as upbeat and leading them as he was after that started winning.

Media/fans haven't been so wrong about an athlete in a long, long time. People seem to have personal vendettas against him.

  10. Rings AND starting QBs is what he was talking about!!!

But if this is truly projecting next year, Cam Newton without Steve Smith, Ted Ginn Jr., Brandon Lafell etc., not sure where he will end up in 2014, so the whole top 100 of 2014 is a misnomer from the get go. This show is just an offseason farce/time killer, don't take it too seriously.

The offense around Cam will be much improved this season. Don't listen to everything the media says. LT Gross retiring, while a huge blow, is the only position that wasn't upgraded. There's a reason Carolina let all of the WRs walk then cut Smith. They weren't good.

    WR1- Benjamin > Smith

    WR2- Cotchery > LaFell

    WR3- Avant > Ginn

    LG- Silatolu > Wharton

    RG- Turner > Williams

    RB- Stewart > Williams

    LT- Chandler < Gross

  11. Then add the fact that Andrew is the better leader which everyone knows leadership is something teams want out of their QB, Andrew is the clearly the better QB

According to who? Fans & media who have zero insight into Newton's leadership?

Because according to his GM, HC, & teammates, Cam is a great leader.

“Over the last 10 weeks, we’re seeing Cam maturing, and doing things in other ways to contribute and improve. It got to the point where Cam was installing things. He led the meetings. He was sitting with the receivers, the tight ends and helping them. You see stuff now you didn’t see before. Seeing him come in early to sit in the o-line meetings. Staying over late to help the young receivers."

    -Head Coach Ron Rivera

Cam is a natural born leader. He really is. What people don't understand is this team had Jordan (Gross) and Steve (Smith). Those guys were All Pros here for over a decade. They were the heart and soul of this team. They're gone now. Cam has taken that ownership and responsibility and stepped up. It's his team now."

    -General Manager Dave Gettleman

"Cam has always been a leader. He gets a lot of unfair criticism, he's such a polarizing person. He is the heart and soul of our team, that's obvious. He's our best player, he's our leader. We go as he goes. It's really neat to see his transformation. He was a young, inexperienced QB who was burdened with carrying a franchise. Now he's the entrenched veteran who younger guys coming in look up to. You see it especially with Kelvin (Benjamin). Cam has really taken him under his wing, so to speak. Not only spending time with him learning the playbook and such, but always having him over and taking him out. Really making sure he's comfortable as he transitions to the NFL and a new city."

    -Tight End Greg Olsen

  12. Panthers: Wins against

    Giants

    Falcons x2

    Buccaners

    Vikings

Yep, top tier teams right there. Panthers had it rough, goodness gracious I had no idea their schedule was so hard last year. How could I be so naive?!

    :panic:

Record vs teams .500 or better...

    Newton- 5-3

    Luck- 4-4

    Games vs top 5 defense...

    Newton- 4

    Luck- 2

  13. Well Wilson was going to be rated higher just because his team won the SB but Newton ahead of Luck that is a joke.

Newton had a higher completion percentage, passer rating, more TDs, superior rushing stats, & won more games while playing against far better teams than Luck.

Don't be a homer. All 3 are great young QBs who had very good seasons. You can't argue that one of them is head & shoulders better than the others without being a homer. There isn't a marginal difference in any of them right now.

  14. So the Hawks defense carried Wilson and the O and yet the Panther defense did not carry Newton and his O?

You do realize Panthers defense was ranked #2 in points and yards. Second only to the Hawks.

I think it is fair to say that BOTH young QBs were carried by their defense but in the end Wilson got his team the ring.

Cam Newton has more yardage than any QBn NFL history thru 3 seasons & more touchdowns than any QB not named Dan Marino.

Nobody has carried him. He's been great from day 1. His first 2 years his defense was ranked at the very bottom of the league. He finally got a competent defense & the wins piled up.

Sure he did. Brady only made the pro bowl two of the those three championship years and the O was ranked even or higher than the D two of those three years as well. And of course his GW/fourth quarter comeback drives to win SIX of those playoff games en rouInt

to those three rings meant nothing either. It was all D.

Brady avg during 3 title runs...

    23 Td 13 Int

    Brady avg since...

    33 Td 10 Int

He was a game manager who played on great teams when they were winning titles.

  15. You must not have seen them play much last year. The defense didn't carry them when they fell behind the Bucs 21-0 and rallied to win in OT. Several times Wilson carried them to a win. They would not have made it to the Super Bowl last season with an average QB running the team.

    The Bucs?!?!

ALL HAIL WILSON HE DOMINATED THE cruddy TB BUCS!!!

  16. They are a lot alike....

Both got carried to championships by a dominant defense.

People seem to forget that the Patriots won those 3 titles in 4 years behind a great defense. Brady was a game manager.

Then their defense got old & they lost others to free agency, so they decided to build a big offense around Brady. He didn't start putting up big numbers until after he won that 3rd ring in '04. And he hasn't won % since then.

  17. These types of unprovable claims based on imaginary scenarios are both tedious and ridiculous.

And Russell Wilson could go 2-14 with 13 TD passes and 22 INTs and still have more wins, more TD passes and fewer INTs than Newton after three years.

Newton & Manning were drafted #1 by the worst teams. Wilson was drafted by one of the 3 most talented teams in football.

Too bad Cam has those 28 rushing TDs & Wilson has those tiny hands that fumble all the time.

    Huh?

    Russell won't touch Cam's marks.

    92 TD 48 turnovers

  18. Kaep missed all his receivers for stretches of the season. And Wilson was also missing Rice - his #2 receiver and you must have missed the SB if you don't think Harvin was sorely missed all season by Seattle.

Like I said, be consistent. To give these other young QBs no credit is just silly especially when one of them just won the Super Bowl.

Seattle won the Super Bowl in spite of Russell Wilson. He fumbled & gave SF the ball inside the 15 on the very first play of the NFCCG. His defense outscored him & Denver in the Super Bowl. They would've won that game with a towel boy playing QB.

Kaepernick is a bigger version of Vick; one read & run. He just happens to have a defense & running game around him that Vick never had.

  19. So you have all the excuses for Newton but what about Kaep playing without many of his offensive weapons all season due to injury or Wilson missing his primary two receivers for almost the entire season? Not to mention that both of them play in the toughest division in football and both secured playoff births for the second straight year.

I like Newton a lot but you disparaging the other Qbs just wreaks of blatant homerism. Be consistent and apply your standards evenly and then maybe your posts will have more credibility.

Newton's starting LG, RG, RT, & RB spent the season on injured reserve. His #1 WR missed the final month & played in the playoffs with a torn PCL.

Kaepernick's #2 WR missed the first half of the season.

Wilson's #1 WR & RT missed the regular season.

    Better?
