  1. It's Demarco with Peyton a step behind and then a bunch of other guys a step behind. Peyton would be side by side with Demarco but he is obviously suffering from Peyton/QB fatigue. Voter are practically begging for a non QB to give them a good reason to vote for them it seems. I think tther QB's with the same W-L record and numbers as Peyton would be in the same boat but Peyton has it worse because he's won it 5 times already.

  2. Funny, I thought us Manning fans was going to retire the "he would(previous version adds the word "still" in this part) have had the record if only he finished the game/played longer" argument after he smashed the TD record this year. But it looks like we're going to get a little more mileage out of this baby.

  3. It would be ironic if the Patriots themselves are the reason this record is broken. If they keep winning, the Broncos are forced to keep winning all the way till the very last game. None of this resting starters in the final meaningless game like Peyton is so use to when he was with the Colts. Lets just say the Broncos score a total of 60 in the next two games and the Patriots lose to someone. I don't think it would be unthinkable to suggest that the Raiders could hold Osweiler to 14 or less points(with Peyton playing 1 drive with pretty lame play calling). When Peyton only played 1 drive in the final game against the Broncos in 2004, the Sorgi show was held to 14 points. Which was the lowest output of the season.

Of course home field throughout is more important than statistical records so I expect the Pats to finish 13-3 and the Broncos to finish 14-2. And because of that Manning should break the TD record and the Broncos should break the points record.

  4. So about the topic, I thought these 3 weeks were the toughest stretch for him when it came to trying to stay on pace for breaking the record. I think he made it through that stretch good overall. Individually he only had one great performance, but it made up for the previous 2 weeks for the sake of simply keeping him within reach. He has already torched Oakland and SD this year so he could do it again if his 2nd performance against the Chiefs is anything to go by. The Texans and Titans have good D's on paper(in terms of yards) so they might be the bigger challenge when it comes to Peyton racking up moreTD passes. But as long as the Patriots keep winning I think he will definitely break the record as that will force him to play the entirety of his 4 remaining games instead of possibly resting like he did a lot in Indy.

For reference Peyton had 45 after 13 games in 2004 and Brady had 45 after 13 games in 2007. Peyton of this year doesn't have to keep up with that pace, he just has to stay consistent. And it would help if did not have a 0 TD game like he and Brady both did in their final 3 games of their record breaking season. And no need to remind me how his poor his post season record is or that a Super Bowl win is all that matters. I'm going to stay on topic and won't engage in that discussion.

  5. Peyton has to avoid what he and Tom failed to avoid when they both went on their historic runs, which is to avoid the late season slow down. At one point Peyton had 44 TD's through 12 games only to finish with 5 in the final 4(although he sat the majority of the final game). At one point Tom had 38 through 10 games and finished with 12 in his last 6 games. When looking at it from that angle, Peyton's 33 through 9 games isn't any more impressive than what he and Tom did before in previous seasons. He is going to face a lot of good defenses in the final 7 weeks. So it wouldn't surprised me if he didn't break the record after all but I hope he does.

  6. The results of the latest Harris Poll reveals that The Cowboys are at the top of the list of favorite NFL teams. OK, that shouldn't be a big surprise to many people. They are followed by the Green Bay Packers. Interestingly enough, the Colts dropped from 6th to 19th(2nd in 2010) while the Broncos moved up from 17th to 3rd since 2011. I guess this confirms what I've been thinking all along. The Colts should have never let Jacob Tamme leave the organization. Keep in mind this poll only had a total of 2577 people involved. So it's a small sample size but it's still interesting to see how things have changed in recent years with different teams having success or the departure of players moving from one team to another.

  7. Crazy thought, would you guys rather play the Broncos in the playoffs at home in a dome or in Denver where it might be snowing with the temp around 10-20 degrees? Why would anybody not want the home game, right? But if the Colts are a more physical team now compared to the past when Peyton was around, wouldn't playing in those kind of conditions work to their advantage where Peyton may not be as effective. The lack of crowd support would be sorely missed though.

  8. Statistically he's probably off the to greatest start of any QB in the modern era ever when it comes to both his passing numbers and his win loss record. That's something Manning and Brady lacked in there beginnings when Manning was 32-32 in his first 4 seasons and Brady didn't break 4,000 yards passing till his 5th season. He won't touch any of the all time numbers though since he didn't start till his 4th seasons in the league. He won't touch any of the all time numbers though since he didn't start till his 4th seasons in the league. He doesn't need it though, although it would have helped to either break those records or at least be close to them.

What he needs to do is win a few more Super Bowls and be very consistent in the regular season for the next 10 years. That's part of Manning and Brady's greatness IMO, even if they didn't win super bowls they put up great numbers and always had their team in contention for the bye week. Manning and Brady have put together more combined 12 win seasons in their careers then the Colts, Broncos, and Patriots have in their history before either played for them. But if he can do that for the next 8-10 years with his already impressive resume I think he'll be a guy who is always in the discussion when his career is over.

  9. It's not APs fault that his team might not make the playoffs.  In fact, he is the sole reason they are even in playoff contention.

MVP is a subjective award. A lot of different things are used to decide who wins this award. Offensive or defense player of the year goes mainly by stats. MVP on the other hand, well being in the playoffs is practically a requirement going by the past. If you have a great story going into the season like AP or Peyton, that helps build your case even further. Even the fact that QB's keep winning the award helps AP because I'm sure a lot of people are looking for reasons to not give it to a QB. Stats and value do matter, in fact they're the most important aspect. But when you have all the contenders lined up and everything is close enough, the first few things I mentioned are what voters will use to separate the contenders.

  10. Yes Brady is a notch below Manning, in the MVP race that is. With "the MVP race" being the emphasis of that line. Before the Niners game I'd say Brady was ahead, but that game dropped him below Manning and most voters eyes IMO. Statistically Brady is still having a slightly better season. But in the MVP race, Manning is ahead of him. Why? The story of how he got there is more compelling. I don't need to go into that as we all know the story.

Of course you can also talk about Brady and Rodgers dealing with injuries to their teams or Brady having one of the worse defenses in the NFL. It's all perception and Manning overcoming his hurdles even though some of them aren't even related to what's happening this season are more compelling than what Brady and Rodgers have gone through. That wouldn't be the case if some other QB really stood out statistically, but no one does. Brady kind of did, but he got knocked back down a bit because he threw a couple of INT's and although he mounted a great comeback, still came short. And as long as all 3 QB's finish strong, I see Manning finishing ahead of the other two. Although it may not matter if AP breaks Dickerson's record with the Vikings in the playoffs, then he'll probably get it.

  11. Funny thing about AP getting to 2k and being a MVP contender is that the last two guys to rush for 2,000 yards, Peyton Manning won(shared 1) MVP in that very same season. Could history repeat itself? It could very well happen if the Vikings don't make the playoffs. Say what you will about that not counting. It counts because the Voters take that into consideration when casting their vote. AP and Peyton's comeback story shouldn't factor into the conversation. But it will because the voters will use that to separate them from other MVP contenders such as Brady and Rodgers. So in the end Peyton has the easiest road to the MVP. Just put up decent numbers against two bad teams and he's at least in the top 2. AP has a large hill to climb since the Vikings are facing the Texans and Packers who will certainly be playing to win because they're still fighting for playoff positions. Guys like Rodgers and Brady need the other two to falter in some way because I think they're a notch below AP and Peyton in the MVP race.

As for Schaub and Ryan. Schaub has no chance since he's not carrying the team the same way other QB's are. Ryan has had way too many bad performances in the 2nd half of the season. It would have been his to lose if he had been as consistent as he was in the first half of the season.

  12. He's probably the favorite for the MVP right now. Ryan has fallen off and he was considered ahead of Manning or neck to neck with him. Brady is always in the mix and Brees may become a very serious contender if the Saints make it to the playoffs. Manning has a lot of bad teams or bad defenses to feast on so I expect him to keep up his pace or maybe even improve on it. Basically I think it's his to lose, his whole story with coming back from injury to play on a new team and lead them to the playoffs with possibly another 12 win season on his belt would be too good for voters to ignore.

  13. If they all finished 13-3 then the Colts would have the #1 seed, Broncos #2, and Ravens #3.

The Broncos have lost to New England, and if the Colts finish 13-3 that means they beat New England. Then if the Broncos finish 13-3 it means they have beaten Baltimore. Then New England would be in fourth, The Texans in fifth, and the Steelers in sixth.

So what you're saying is that the Colts will host the Broncos in the AFC Championship game? Forget waiting until the 2013 regular season, lets get this drama started in January. ESPN will be all over this with every angle being used to hype Peyton's return to Indy lol.

  14. Manning vs Brady was a decade long debate and war on the field... It was maybe the most popular NFL rivalry EVER.

    It's over.

I think you meant the Indy-Manning vs Brady-Patriots rivalry is over. The rivalry is still alive, it's just that it has passed on to the Broncos now. Their is a Broncos/Pats rivalry, it just wasn't that big of a deal though. Adding Manning has magnified it though and in some ways, the Broncos fans are picking up where the Colts fans have left off with the Manning vs Brady debate/rivalry. They faced each other this year, and have a good chance of facing each other again in the playoffs. With both teams likely to win their division, it looks like they're set to face each other again next year. Same old story, just a new uniform for Peyton though.

I will miss the Colts/Pats rivalry. They've played some of the best games the past 8 years. It can be ignited if Luck continues to play well and keep this team in playoff contention year after year. Otherwise, it will die if these two aren't facing each other every year like the Manning led Colts against the Brady led Patriots.

  15. I'm watching Numbers Never Lie right now and Romo is on that show to. When asked if Manning is the clear cut MVP at midseason he says no and that he's number 3. Who's ahead of Manning in his mind? The first being Matt Ryan. No surprise here, he is deserving and is arguably the front runner. His other choice, Matt Schaub, yes, Matt Schaub of the Houston Texans. Why, just because his team is 7-1 regardless of what he's doing out there on the field. Using Romo's logic we may as well throw Alex Smith and Jay Cutler into the discussion as well.

  16. As crazy as this may sound, I think Peyton has a better shot at MVP then he does at winning the CPOTY award. The argument Moose is making actually supports Peyton for MVP more than Peyton for CPOTY award. This was a Broncos team that people were picking to finish no better than 6-10 this year because they weren't going to produce the same miracles they did last year. But Peyton comes in and has them in contention for a 1st round bye and they've heavily improved there offense, from 23rd in yards and 25th in scoring last year to 3rd in yards and 4th in scoring this year through 8 games. Not only are his numbers astounding, his story is very compelling and will help him win it over Ryan or any other candidate as long as the Broncos finish strong, preferably 12-4(or better).

But CPOTY on the other hand, it could go either way. Yes people though Peyton would retire and if he came back, he'd never be the same player he was before. But ADP came back from his injury in shorter time span and is putting together one of his best season's ever and has done it on a team with a terrible passing game. So he's the focus for every defense and he's still getting his yards. So there is a strong argument for both sides on who should win this award.

  17. How are the Colts winning then with Luck's supposed bad numbers? Is it there great defense? Great running game? Special teams? Luck's numbers have a little to do with the overall talent around him as well. Mediocre O line, inconsistent WR play to name a couple. Luck is playing very well and if you take him off this team they probably are winless. How many games has he decided in the 4th qtr? If you look at most of the guys in the MVP discussion you will find there respective teams are loaded with talent in comparison to the Colts. Most of them were playoff teams last year or have been for several years. The Broncos won a playoff game with Tim Tebow at QB. Again, he isn't going to win, but if MVP really means most valuable, then Luck should be in the discussion. He took over a team that won 2 games, then was blown up, and has them with the 3rd best record in the AFC. I just don't find it so unreasonable to say he should be in the discussion.

With that argument, you could say that Tebow should have been in the MVP discussion because he took a 1-4 Broncos team to the playoffs despite having unimpressive stats. Don't take that the wrong way, it's just a perspective that could be used with the argument you're making. But anyways, yes Andrew Luck is in the conversation. But he has absolutely no shot at winning it(unless he has the best 8 game stretch ever from game 9-16t. He's a rookie, he'll get better in time. Stats do matter when it comes to the MVP. That's why the front runners are Ryan, P. Manning, and Brady. Not only are they leading their teams to wins, they are statistically very consistent. That's why I laugh whenever I hear Eli's name in the MVP discussion. Sure he may be clutch, he may lead the Giants to another Super Bowl this year. But the MVP is a regular season award and he lacks the week to week consistency throughout the regular season to ever have a chance at winning that award like his bro has done many times.

I expect him to be a serious contender in the future but right now I don't think he'll be the 3rd stringer in the Pro Bowl game. But that's OK, he has a long career ahead of him and the improvements to his completion percentage and so on should come in time.

  18. I'm in the same boat as some of the other Manning fans are. I started rooting for the Colts when Peyton joined them because I followed him in his college career at Tennessee and I really liked his play and believed he was going to be something really special. So I've been rooting for the Colts all these years as he was with them. I often told my friends that I'm not sure if I'm really a Colts fan, that I'm more likely just a Manning fan and when he goes I'm done with the team. When the talk of cutting him started to happen, I wasn't really bitter at all. I actually relished the idea that Peyton could go to a new team, lead them to the playoffs and possibly a Super Bowl while still maintaining his high level of play. So far he's on pace to accomplish 2 of those goals this year, hopefully the 3rd happens. It would just further cement his legacy as one of the best ever to play the game.

But I have followed this team for so long and that just doesn't go away overnight. I still root for the team and hope they continue doing well. Luck is looking like he has a bright future here and could become the next big thing. With all that said, I don't want to see the Broncos vs the Colts in the playoffs. I don't know, it just feels too soon to me. I know the Broncos will be playing the Colts next year in Indianapolis. That's when I want to see their first match up. Manning comes home where he should still be very beloved by the hometown Colts fans. It'll probably be a primetime game, they can hype up the drama or whatever they want going into the game. That's the scenario I'd like to see but I'm not in control so we'll see what happens. I think the Colts will get in as a wild card. But I think the Broncos will be able to secure a 1st round bye. So if they meet, I don't think it will happen in the wild card game.
