Don't know what happened from the 1st 2 weeks til this week with the run defense. They weren't great the 1st 2 weeks, but this week they are God awful. The Skins would be better off just handing the ball off every play and not let RG3 throw it. RG3 keeps killing their drives by trying to throw the ball. Heck their gaining 10 yds a carry(at least it feels that way).

yeah, my excitement for fleener is starting to fade... and i catch myself looking at who was still on the board in the second rd. (knowing that allen would still be there in the 3rd)

I know people will probably jump all over me for this but if Fleener wasn't a high draft pick, he would be hitting the waiver wire in a few days. Although, I don't think its all his fault because they haven't really called anything for him but the few chances he's had hasn't been impressive at all.

yeah i think i have to agree, i really hope he turns it around and proves me wrong. however he seems like a better late rd pick up or a unsigned free agent at this point certainly not a high second rd pick. and if he was one of those two i would not lose any sleep over him being cut.

Honestly I think Fleener will come around. To me he's doing a lot of thinking out there.

I remember Reggie Waynes' rookie year I thought he sucked too, but he got better as he

learned and grew in the offense. Right now though he looks like Ben Utecht

trade freeney and play jerry h get oline help

No one is going to trade for Freeney with his contract our best hope of moving him would be to release him and get nothing for him. Hughes took reps with the first unit today in place of Mathis and was around he ball but was really struggling to tackle which is a common complaint about the guys on defense.

The right side of the line is scary to say the least.

Breath in and Breath out. First its pre season. Second we tore everything down and now we are rebuilding. We are still putting the pieces together. Things don't happened overnight. We will get there, it might not be this year though. But we will get there. Things don't magically happened overnight. Go Colts.

I feel this "very young" team needed a dose of reality after a nationally televised game in which they played very well.

This is not quit a playoff caliber team just yet. I think it is good to get smacked in the chops every now and again. Puts things in the proper perspective.

The Colts are way better than last season but they have a LONG ways to go....

so we replaced manning with luck (even) but we still can't stop the run.

This should not be shocking. It's a new system but for the most part (especially today with Redding and McKinney out) it's the same players that couldn't stop the run last year. We still don't have a true starting 3-4 DT. Till we get one the Colts are going to struggle against the run even with the new system.

Exactly.. a QB can fix ANY O pretty quickly.. Fixing a D takes time.

    • Lol. Sure, I meant he ALWAYS makes those mistakes. I think you’re smart enough to know that I meant he’s made those mistakes enough that it’s kind of alarming to me. If you’re not alarmed, cool.
    • They do need an offensive mind, though. I said from the moment he was hired there that it was a move that was dead on arrival. Pairing a QB like Fields (and now Willams,) with a guy like Flus wasn’t productive for either side. Both of those QBs would benefit far more from having an offensive guy at the helm than a defensive one. A defensive coach needs to have a strong offensive staff in place to help those young QBs and Flus did not.    Fields is the perfect case in point: he landed in Pittsburgh with a defensive minded head coach who had a strong enough offensive support system to benefit him, and his career is starting to turn around for it.    Think of our own history, did the pairing of Andrew Luck with a defensive guy like Pagano do him any favors? Not really, and in the end it’s probably a big part of the reason that story turned out the way it did.
    • Its the defense he plays in and they funnel the ball carrier to Franklin. Leonard had tons of tackles and I wouldn't make to much of it when grading Franklin. Cross, I believe leads the league in tackles. Are you saying he is the best safety in the league? Franklin is a rugged and tough line backer but poor in coverage.
    • I hear this but to my dying day I will maintain Payton far exceeded Smiths talent, and if Smith had to be on the garbage teams Payton was on for 80% of his career, he would be ranked in the 20s or 30s all time.  If Payton had Erik Williams, Larry Allen and Nate Newton blowing up d-linemen for him, he would have set the record impossibly high.    And once we add receiving and blocking ability the difference is even more stark.    Thanks, grew up watching WP… old man rant *off*
    • He is throwing some bad picks and all rookie qbs do, so I am not going to be that hard on him for those mistakes. The one thing that still impresses me is that he doesnt look lost out there. He is still making good reads but he just needs to calm down and make those simple throws. I truly believe that if he made those throws that 90% of qbs make. We would be saying he is having a pretty good year. If Richardson fails, I believe it wont be because of his ability to process. It will because after say three seasons or so, he is unable still to hit the broad side of a barn!!
