Waiver Wire Procedure

I'm pretty sure the Colts will get first dibs on any player that hits waivers. If they pass, it goes from worst to first just like the draft.

That is a big advanatge.....almost as good as having the No.1 pick...

..we can fill some needs with guys we watched play 3 or 4 times in other teams exhibiton games.....

The thing with waivers is you have to pick up that player's contract which is why most guys clear because you can often sign them for cheaper than thier current deal. With that said should a quality lineman or cb hit waivers it wouldn't shock me to see the colts claim them.

I'm expecting a waiver wire move (or two) as well....

But remember, there's typically a reason why these guys are put on waivers....

Hey, the NFL is simply brutal....

Just sayin....

True, but it could be due to multiple things, such as a team having lots of depth at a position and releasing a good player because of numbers or a player being in the wrong system. Tim Jennings was terrible when he played for the Colts, but he is a starter for Chicago and he is actually doing pretty well for himself.

Keep in mind that there is also a difference between waived and released. Both mean they have been cut, but If a player has less than 4 years of experience, he must clear waivers, and if he has more than 4 years credited, then he becomes a free agent when he is released.

For example, if the Colts released Austin Collie, he would have to clear waivers. If they released Reggie Wayne, he would be free to sign with anyone as soon as he is released.

The process also changes towards the end of September, when the waiver wire order shifts from the 2012 draft order to what would then be the 2013 draft order based on various tiebreakers and such.

It is from the 2012 NFL Record and Fact book PDF that have. I'm not sure if it is included in the hard copy one can pick up at Barnes & Noble or not. In the PDF it says it's a supplemental section for the digital version.
