The Atlanta Falcons are hiring former Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Polian to work in the team's personnel department, a knowledgeable source told ProFootballTalk.com on Sunday.

--

I'm surprised they would go after him after what he did here. His dad was solid, but when he became GM, it didn't go so well. With that said, he did have a large say in scouting and I'm sure part of our many solid draft picks in the 2000s can be credited to his scouting. As long as you keep him in scouting and don't let him make too many decisions as a GM, I think you will be fine.

And let's try to keep this clean folks. I know there are many strong opinions on the Polians, so let's not try to make this thread spiral downhill

Well in all honesty, I really dug last year's draft. I've heard that last year was the first draft that Chris had full control over, and I've heard it was the first draft in a few years that his dad took on because of Chris's incompetence. Not sure what to believe, but I am glad to have Grigson.

I really like the way you wrote this 21st Superman. All Colts fans know that Bill Polian is without a doubt a Hall of Fame Executive for his architecture of the Bills, Panthers, and our Colts.

Chris was the downfall of Bill however upon his 'alienation' of the legends that we had including scouts Don Anile and Clyde Powers, as well as two Hall of Fame coaches Tom Moore and Howard Mudd. One good thing he did was keep Tom Telesco (Now VP)

I agree with you. He needs to stay in scouting where he cannot wave his pompous wand of arrogance. I will never forget his 1 Polian Corner on Colts.com. Bill did the rest because Chris could not handle it.....so pompous to the media and fans, I stop here to keep it clean. Thanks for the post, and the attempt to 'keep it clean' from the get-go.

My philosophy is last year's draft is still an unknown because of the lack of training camp. So....I agree with you especially with our young OL Castonzo and Ijalana. Add Nevis to the equation....all injured. The grade on last years draft will be felt this year. Once again.....NOT a fan of Chris Polian in the least.

I had heard that CHRIS took over the draft in 2007 in any case he was not ready to be a GM thank you MR IRSAY :colts:

Lol dont know who will get the credit but glad C P IS gone B P was a great football mind

Bill was an architect. He is much better in the media than he was talking to and about the media....calling them "Liars and rats." I enjoyed his draft coverage.

The Polians are overrated. Peyton made Bill look like like a genius, and, well, Chris kinda sucked haha You can have him Falcons.

I like your new avatar

Re: Chris Polian, I imagine there is a limited pool ofcandidates. He's got a skill set.

I am shocked, dumbfounded, & at a complete loss for words...Chris Polian cannot evaluate NFL talent period. Atlanta, what in the world are you doing?!!! Chris, put our franchise in ruins far behind the 8 ball & your organization put him on the payroll...Arther Blank are you nuts?!!!

Look, I am all for 2nd chances, but only if you are qualified at your current position. The problem is Chris Polian can't scout well either. He is severely lacking in this Dept. & that is the nicest statement I can say without getting into trouble here. This move is a train wreck in waiting IMO. I have been wrong before, but not about this. Escort Chris out of the building ASAP. Otherwise, your franchise will hit the skids within 4-5 years.

Well said.... whatever it takes to be a solid NFL scout and/or player personnel executive is clearly not hereditary.

Being an abrasive, arrogant butt wipe might.... well, never mind.

They're asking us to keep it clean.

We have no idea who did what behind the scenes, nor what their skill set is. The article I saw indicates that Polian had a prior relationship with a FO guy at the Falcons who used to work for the Colts. People don't normally put their own careers at risk just to help someone out (unless it's their kid), so it's safe to assume that the Falcons believe that he has some skills. I wish him nothing but the best.

While it might bring comfort to point fingers at the Polians (in the hope that "the source of all our problems" is gone), I remind everyone again that the team is coming off the most successful run in their history. While I'm fine with changing the FO (primarily because of BPs age - he was going to retire at some point regardless) I see no reason for the abundance of confidence that Grigson is better. He is a rookie just getting started, and if the basis for judging him is the Eagles drafts, I'm not impressed in the least. It's reasonable to deduce that CP is unpleasant to get along with (insecure? More worried about consolidating his position than doing what's in the best interest of the team?), but for all we know he's a better evaluator of talent. Like with everything else, only time will tell. I'm cautiously optimistic that the Colts are heading in a good direction, but I'll wait until we see results before I start patting one on the back and blaming the other.

MAC! Thanks for the oratory....good draft....great weekend....nobody is patting anyone one the back. Definitely not Chris Polian.

Chris Polian was responsible for the loss of a fantastic scouting staff. I will keep it at that...... Unless you want to talk racing. This is a Colt's thread. I am done here. (OOOPS, he hired a race car driver for football scouting)

As we have said.....Chris Polian is NOT Bill Polian. The Colts are the Colts. Bill Polian is a member of the "Liars and rats."

Bill is a Hall of Famer. Chris is not capable of scouting...a pompous ___!

I agree and MAC you are awesome. My dad is the best, but never got me a job. Chris Polian ruined the scouting department, alienated great coaches. He thought he was Bill Polian. He is now a scout? He was our GM?

Sorry 21st, I read your stuff and agree......cannot agree on this one. MAC I love ya, but a bad thread to back Chris Polian. Dad is a Hall of Famer! WOW! Have a great night. I will forever disagree with the choice of an inept son to run a historic franchise. That is why one is now media...and one is a scout. Nite.

You're welcome Brent - anytime. :P

I gather that we disagree about the value of all things Polian, or maybe not. Hard to tell from that post. Oh well, we don't have to agree. Just know that I often play devils advocate and try to be fair. I think that it is inappropriate to tar and feather Chris Polian based on the available evidence. I don't know for a fact that CP drove off valued members of the staff. I don't know for a fact who was responsible for the team slipping either. I also don't know for a fact that CP was pompous. What little I saw of him seemed fine. I even remember hearing people say after the one Q&A that he did that "at least he doesn't talk to the callers like his father does". For all we know Tom Telesco is responsible for the team slipping, but maybe he's a better politician than the Polians and Irsay likes him more. I hope not, because that wouldn't bode well for the future, but who the heck knows.

The patting on the back refers to this forum being filled with people expressing thanks that Grigson is here to lead us back from the wasteland. I'm all for optimism, but it's a bit early for celebrations. Lets find out if he's any good first.

Did I mention that I live near Philly and utterly detest everything about the Eagles? I'm less predisposed to give Grigson the benefit of the doubt over someone who contributed to the amazing run we just went through. He will have to earn my respect from scratch.

Chris Polian will never possess the same magic for evaluating talent that his father Bill did. Look, we have have hidden talents & Chris Polian's consistent gift seems to be a combination of arrogance, incompetence, & misfiring. The man as a scout puts the capital A in awful. Do I wish him ill will? No, but I don't want him anywhere near a professional football organization either.

Mac, I do agree with you that it is a bit premature to appoint Grigson a genius GM quite yet. Let's watch a few more drafts 1st prior to classifying Grigson a GM guru.

MAC: Thanks for responding. I have been here too long to not know what pompous is........and yep....to our surprise I can be too!

Bill is a legend. Chris s STILL a wannabe. He is now a lil scout...Bill is a member of his nemesis..."liars and rats."

Bill will be in the Hall of Fame. Chris will NOT!

Jim Irsay saw it as well as Tom Telesco.

Sorry...should have just sent a PM. You are a friend!
