Wow thats a great job.  This pretty much seals that he will leave indy for good if he hasnt already.  Last I heard he still had a house here but its been a while.

Fantastic! I'm a Stanford fan and I am an Andrew Luck fan. I am very happy for the Cardinal program. Hopefully, they will start winning more games with Andrew helping the recruiting.

"Andrew's credentials as a student-athlete speak for themselves, and in addition to his legacy of excellence, he also brings a deep understanding of the college football landscape and community, and an unparalleled passion for Stanford football," Muir said.

"I could not think of a person better qualified to guide our football program through a continuously evolving landscape, and I am thrilled that Andrew has agreed to join our team. This change represents a very different way of operating our program and competing in an evolving college football landscape."

Pretty cool story

The Athletic Director is VERY unpopular.  He only keeps his job due to politically correct politics.

I wish Andrew the best, but he’s going to have a hard time when he’s dealing with the Administration.   The school has a love-hate relationship with sports and especially the two big money makers, Football and Basketball.  He’ll be fighting MANY up-hill battles.

Andrew is smart, he was made for something like this.

It’s entirely possible,  but I wouldn’t expect it.   To the best of my knowledge, he has three homes.

Indy, to be close to the Colts.

Houston, to be close to his family.

Palo Alto, to be close to Stanford.   I’d guess this is the primary.  So I doubt anything has changed.

Serious question: For those who do not understand what that has to do with Luck being named the general manager, why is that important? Was Luck hired to appease the fans? Is Luck expected to fire the AD? Just wondering.

Would be amazing if he ended up a NFL GM some day.

That would be great, but Luck seems like a Stanford lifer.

If the school had a good AD,  and they’ve had them before, what Andrew was hired to do should be the job of the coaching staff.

The press release says he’s going to coach the coaching staff.  That would not be necessary if the AD had hired a good coaching staff to begin with.  He didn’t.

When you see Stanford do well in football and basketball, it’s when the school has hired a top athletic Director.  That person has to convince the administration that it’s in their best interest to spend money to be competitive.  Stanford is the 4th richest school behind only Harvard and Yale and a newcomer, Texas.

But the school also has super strict limitations on who the school can recruit.  When the school has done well in football and basketball it’s typically because they’ve been able to convince the administration that a little relaxation would go a LONG way toward future success.   Some administration’s understand this.   But most administrations have not.

If I kept writing, it would be a large book with countless chapters.   It’s an amazing school, with the most stunning campus.  Eye opening and jaw dropping.   But the administration is often its own worst enemy.

Very frustrating for longtime supporters of the school like me.   Oh, the stories that could be told!

Okay. Thanks for explaining. I think this post should not be in the Colts section. I allowed it to stay as we were talking about Andrew Luck, a former Colt. Once we move away from that to more Stanford-related content, it is no longer a Colts topic.

I’m guessing you know that it was only sudden to the fans.   It was not sudden to Irsay, Ballard or Reich.   Luck started talking to them about retirement back in March.  They kept encouraging him to give his injury time to heal.

At some point in August Luck told the Colts his injury wasn’t healing and he was retiring.

If Luck ever quit at Stanford, it would likely barely be noticed by most at the school.  THAT’s part of the problem the school has with sports.

And yes, I know your quip was a joke…

So….   How does this work then?    Do you move it to the NFL section and create a Luck thread there?    Otherwise,  where does the conversation go?

Luck has a high I.Q. and that opens many doors so the best to him.

Wouldn't that be 1 way to win the fans back here in Indy that don't like him, if he took over as GM in a couple years after gaining some experience with it at Stanford and built a Championship team.

Maybe for some, for me, it’ll take a more genuine effort than that.

For me if there are fans out there that hold a grudge on Luck still, I say this to them, "Silence"!!!

I say he lasts a year as he  develops carpal  tunnel syndrome, paper cuts and back pain and calls it a career.

Perhaps it’s your moose jaw sense of humor.   Read: funny to you.   But it’s pretty much par for the course for you.

He already lives in Palo Alto.   And in Houston where his family lives.   And not far from the Colts practice facility where he once played.

All of this is news that most people here know.    Not the least bit surprising that you don’t know it.  Few regular posters know less about Andrew Luck than you.  You’ve had your hate for and ignorance about Luck on full display for years.  What a shame you don’t know him or appreciate him at all.
