Lines beat up and teams are going to blitz him until he makes them pay for it.

I was trying to figure out why Flacco is on the other end of this graph, and I think you just nailed it. Teams are blitzing Richardson way more than they blitzed Flacco. Plus the line is more banged up now than it was a few weeks ago, but the blitzing is probably a huge part of it.

Yeah depth is a key part of team building. They need a better answer at RG for sure. I’m not sure what you do at LT until Rainman is back. Your options are Goncalves or Freeland…yikes.

His athleticism and pocket awareness make him better suited to deal with it than most QBs, but eventually he’s going to have to make the blitzers pay.

Goncalves grading as one of our best O Lineman at 67.9, better the Smith, Bortolini,Kelly,Tucker.  With Rainman potentially back this week we could see Goncalves take over the RG spot unless the go with Ant. Mafi or think Glow is back in shape already.

Goncalves has been grading in the 60’s all season.   Last week, nearly 68.   He's not Raimann,  but as backups go, he’s pretty darn good.

Saw a statistic on X (forgot if it was posted here as well). AR was pressured on more than 46% of his dropbacks against the Lions and had no sacks. That's only happened 3 times this season. 2 of those times were AR. He's just excellent at avoiding sacks.

Yeah the problem is Tucker and Bartolini mostly.  Having two rookies starting next to each other is going to scream attack here to other defenses.  For the life of me I don’t understand why Shane is so determined to run Taylor behind the two rookies nearly every run play.

Add in the fact having so many people out is impacting Smith and Nelson (people always under value how much the line plays as one unit so missing people impacts people) and you can understand why the line is struggling.

They need to get healthy because even if Goncalves is playing well for a backup rookie lineman as you pointed out he’s still not Raimann.

As for my statement I wouldn’t let Bartolini performance impact the Colts decision on Kelly at the end of the year.  For starters he’s a rookie so no he’s not going to be as good as Kelly from the word go.  However playing is what he needs.  Also, his struggles have really shown up once he started playing next to Tucker which tells me it’s more Tucker and the fact it’s two rookies and defense as going after that area.  When they get Fries back next year I think Bartolini would do just fine at center with at least half a year of starting already under his belt.  He might not be as good as Kelly next year but I think that’s because Kelly has been a pro-bowl level player for so long it’s going to be hard for anyone to reach that level right away.

I tried to zoom in but it gets blurry

Yeah I was going to say from watching it it looks like the ball is right there he just didn’t catch it but it’s so blurry I can’t say and frankly I don’t recall that particular play from Sunday.

Oh crap... do I need bifocals now?

This might look clearer. Just Zoom. It should not look too blurry.

Tucker last week was around the bottom 4 in guards in BOTH the run and pass. No way he starts this week , I think it might be Glow.

Yeah the line as a whole is not playing up to par. Nelson had a terrible game against the Lions in particular. I also would rather see Goncalves at RG.

It's incredible that Richardson somehow had 0 Sacks and 0 INT's against the Lions when the Colts' offensive line was so bad that day ...... that shows that he has a lot of fight, and that he is making very good decisions as of late.

You know the cure to all of this is to hone the short passing game. Taylor needed to have more touches for goodness sake.

An elite TE could be of help here, oh crap…

Why wouldn’t you blitz him. He can’t complete much that doesn’t take time develop downfield.

    • Allen had zero receivers to throw too those first years..he didn't just magically get better with accuracy his third year ..he got better cause diggs joined the team..
    • I hope he can last till the Colts pick.
    • The more I consider it, the more concerned I get.  When I look at the first year statistical comparisons that I posted earlier, Mitchell looks a whole lot more like Phillip Dorsett than he does anyone else.   Mitchell - 13 games | 7 starts | 20 catches on 45 targets (44.4%) | 254 yds | 0 TD's | 19.5 yds/game Downs - 17 games | 9 starts | 68 catches on 98 targets (69.4%) | 771 yds | 2 TD's | 45.4 yds/game Pittman - 13 games | 8 starts | 40 catches on 51 targets (65.6%) | 503 yds | 1 TD | 38.7 yds/game Moncrief - 16 games | 2 starts | 32 catches on 49 targets (65.3%) | 444 yds | 3 TD's | 27.8 yds/game Hilton - 15 games | 1 start | 50 catches on 90 targets (55.6%) | 861 yds | 7 TD's | 57.4 yds/game Dorsett - 11 games | 0 starts | 18 catches on 39 targets (46.2%) | 225 yds | 1 TD | 20.5 yds/game Wayne - 13 games | 9 starts | 27 catches on 49 targets (55.1%) | 345 yds | 0 TD's | 26.5 yds/game
    • As we go through our discussions and observations for Richardson, we've mostly used two quarterbacks as comparison:  Josh Allen (for his early inaccuracy, strong arm, and ability to run) and Cam Newton (for his imposing physicality and strong arm). There's one other quarterback that I feel needs to be in the conversation: Justin Fields Through his career in Chicago, he was a phenomenon running the ball.  He ran for over 1100 yards in 2022!  But he had a lot less success throwing the ball.  So much so that the team finally decided to move on from him after only 3 seasons. I'm not saying "Richardson is exactly like Fields".  But I am saying that the comparison has merit, and bears watching.
    • I implore you to go back and watch the tape from his first 2 seasons. His accuracy was woeful.
