So says ESPN.com.   We are 5 months away from the draft.   I’ve checked with a moderator and have been given permission to give limited premium info that is behind a paywall.

For starters, this is NOT a very good draft.  One personnel expert said in most seasons his team might have about 15 players with first round grades.  So far this year they’ve got 8 players with 1st round grades.  Eight, not a typo.

ESPN has 4 draft evaluators.  Kiper, Matt Miller, Jordan Reid, Field Yates.   Here is their top-10 consensus board.

1. Travis Hunter.  WR/CB.    Colo

2. Will Johnson    CB.           Mich

3. Abdul Carter.    DE.          Penn St

4.  Mason Graham  DT.        Mich

5.  Malakai Starks.   S.          Geor

6.  Kelvin Banks.       OT.       Tex

7.  Tet McMillan.      WR.        ARI

8.  Ashton Jeantry.  RB.        Boise State.

9.  Mykel Williams.  Edge.     Geor

10. Luther Burden.   WR.        Mizz

As you can see, no QBs.   And they view just 2 QBs as first round talents.  Sanders and Cam Ward.   The view is it’s a down year for the whole class.   Weaknesses include QB and OL, Tackles.   Strengths are DE and RBs.   The WR class is said to be good, but not great.

If you have questions, I’ve been told I can answer them as long as I don’t give away too much.   I’ll do my best for all.

The TE class is supposed to be really good. Loveland, Warren, and Harold Fanning Jr. will likely all be consensus top 50 ranked players. There are also some sleepers like Arroyo, Delp, and Stowers.

Based on this year’s performance am not seeing even that many names listed as top-10.  Obviously I am no expect.

First off Happy Thanksgiving week/weekend to all.

We all know teams should go for QBs and I would think Cam Ward goes number 1.

Tre Harris got to best the top reciver and top CB Jahdae Barron whom I had as a FS but played LCB.  OLB Joshiah Stewart looked like a top 10 playmaker along a TJ Watt mold.  RDEdge Princely Umanmielen also showed enough to warrent top 10-15 consideration.

Still not high on Starks believe Lathan Ransom proved to be a better SS and see Starks going R2 as third best SS in this draft class.

Offensive lineman are weak in this draft class.  Wyatt Milum might go before Kelvin Banks.

TEs pretty much standard Rounds 2-4.

Weak draft class indeed and seemed a lot of players who waited to declare only hurt their draft stock this year.

I don't get the Hunter hype. My hot take is he's not going number 1 overall. I get he plays two positions at a high level, but he's not top 5 at either position and he's not going to play two positions in the NFL - it's going to be WR or CB with maybe a sprinkle of the other.

I think that’s because not focusing on one position full time is impacting his ability to be dominant at either position. To me he should be drafted as a corner. He has elite ball skills and you could argue that his stats at CB were more impressive than his WR stats. In this draft class he’s probably CB1/2. At WR he’s WR2/3.

I think if he focuses on 1 position exclusively in the NFL he’ll be a superstar. He also has a dawg mentality which is very important to me. It separates good players from great ones.
