Being that I am too old to recall the exact year but I bought a Colts helmet as my first around 1958 +/-. I mounted it on my dresser and kept it until I moved away for college and I went to Europe after the first college year so I don't recall what happened to it.

There wasn’t a lot of merch when we were young.  I had a rubber gorilla that hung from my mirror back in the 70.  My girlfriend made a Mike Curtis jersey for it.

A friend of my dad’s made me a Jonny Unitas plaque.  When I moved away it was stored in a box that my kids found about 30 some years later.  They asked who he was, and I told them he was the Peyton Manning of my youth.

I'm thinking it was a Indianapolis Colt's pullover sweat shirt from the local JC Penny's, probably in 1983 or 84.

Weren't many die hard fans down here just yet, most were sticking with whatever random team they were backing, before the move.

Colts windbreaker back in 1975 when I was 6, well I didnt officially buy it my mom did, was only one in the store. There were like 10 Eagles ones. I took the patch of and had it sewn onto a blue windbreaker back in 1985 and still have it in my closet.

I remember, cause it was not too long ago.

About 12 years back the NFL wasn't that popular here in Germany and there was little fan stuff to buy.

It was a blue colts hat with white logo. Of course I still have it and sometimes wear it.

Oh, I think it was a gift of my wife to birthday. So I think the first I bought by myself was(surprise) another hat in blue and white shield reflective on the one side. Still wear it,too.

Being from Miami, EVERYTHING was Dolphins and we weren't well off enough to go to games when the Colts played there (that's about the only way to buy something Colts).

So, aside from buying a pack of Topps playing cards, a '74 poster of Mike Curtis was available at The Barefoot Mailman.

Snagged.

Yupp.. 20 years ago. I had just started following the colts. And my family was driving from CT to Alaska. (Dad was in the air force) We made a weekend stop in Minnesota and went to the mall of America where they bought me the official colts apparel hat Peyton used to wear on the sidelines. I still have it tucked away with my other colts things lol

I think it was around 1996 for me. I was around 8 and saved up money from doing odd jobs around the neighborhood so I could buy an Eric Dickerson jersey. I thought it was so cool back then that we shared a first name.

When I was young there wasn’t much NFL merchandise around let alone Colts stuff.  My dad bought me a plain blue helmet with the single cross bar and I used white medical adhesive tape to add the horseshoes.

My first memories of Colts items included the triangle shaped pendent, book bag, stocking cap with the ball on top and the Bert Jones full jersey from the Christmas catalog. All mid 70's and bought by my parents. I did have a Randy McMillan blue/grey baseball style tee. in the 80's. Marshall Faulk 28 jersey would probably be the first jersey I bought for myself.

Yup. I was 16, and had just started my first job. Was making minimum wage of $5.20 (it was 2002) and only able to work 20 hours a week. I was also responsible for my own car insurance and cell phone bill, so it took a while to save up enough, but I was finally able to buy an official Reebok Manning home jersey.

I felt so damn cool and happy to have something that expensive that I paid for with my own money.

I have a picture of my younger cousin and I when we were little guys wearing pullover windbreakers.

I made a habit of getting gameday pins (if they weren't sold out) from every game I attended. I have probably 90% of them, around 30 or so. Very fortunate to have gone to so many great games over the last few decades.

The best gift I ever received was a signed Bob Sanders jersey. He was my favorite player when I was playing, back when you could try to imitate his mentality of "hitting so hard I knock myself out."

I have never bought any sports stuff for myself. Friends and family seemed to always have this stuff covered during Christmas and birthdays. Once, I was working on some golf carts in Ponta Vedra Golf club south of Jacksonville and ran into Ted Marchibroda and Jim Harbaugh getting ready to play a round of golf. They gave me a really nice Colts hat with the embroidered shoe with their signatures on the bill. Harbaugh Ask" you have something we can write on?" I replied don't worry about that, it was cool to meet the two men who were putting the Colts back on the map. He reached into his golf bag and they signed and gave it to me.

The first Colts item I bought was a doo rag.  And I bought it in Miami, going to a Colts game down there, back in the mid 90's.  I still have it.  People have come up to me and asked excitedly "where did you get that?!?!?!"  My answer:  Miami.

My second Colts item was an Edgerrin James jersey.  I was upset back in 1999 when the Colts allowed Marshall Faulk to leave in trade for a 2 and a 5.  And then, with Ricky Williams on the board, they chose this other running back that I hadn't heard of, and had no interest in.  I was DONE.  I swore off the Colts, and started rooting for the Bucs with their amazing defense.  And Edge?  Well, he set rushing records, rookie of the year, pro bowls....  Shows what I know about drafting!  So -- I bought the jersey.  If for no other reason than to remind myself to be humble.

Jr High School, late 1960s. A John Mackey poster for my bedroom wall.  I went back home 5 yrs ago when my Mom died- it was still there on the wall. Nephew remodeled the house a year later, and I assume it’s gone now…

Manning shirt I bought nearly 20 years ago. Still my only item. I want to buy more, but with transport and toll it just get ridiculously expensive by the time I have it in hand.

Was that the game where, between Namath and Unitas there was over 1000 yards of Passing Offense?  I loved that game ( but Colts lost, IIRC?)

Memory getting bad but my first purchase wasn't clothing or something physical like a football. Rather it was a Colts weekly newspaper called Colts (Digest?) or something like that. During the season it was weekly and off season maybe monthly? Wish I could remember but this would have been in 84/85.

Thought this might be interesting on a side note because of the topic. I spent 10 years working with the Colts during the team's summer camps. For 6 of those I was Peyton's right hand person on the side lines when he would sign autographs. There was an older couple who came out for a number of years who were big Peyton fans who had terrible luck in getting his autograph. My job was to protect him and not steer him in a particular direction. He lead, I followed.

After a number of years I kind of broke protocol by letting them know a particular day he would be signing in the autograph tent. It was on a Saturday and I saw them waiting along the side lines and mentioned they might want to leave practice early and head down to the tent. A wink and a nod and the elderly lady did.

Well practice ends and as I knew Peyton didn't come to the side lines like usual so I head to the autograph tent. There she is in line but holy cow the line was really long but hopefully close enough. So Peyton and 4 other players had been signing for awhile but the lady was in the final que to approach the guys. I'm smiling at her when one of the PR guys comes and announces they have to cut off the line as the players had other priority things to take care of. Yep sure as heck the cut-off was one person a head of the lady. I was so disappointed for her. She was kind of teary eyed and just stood in line as the guys finished up and hoped on the gplf carts and drove away.

She says you know that's my luck but thanks for letting have a chance. I didn't know what to say and she began to leave but suddenly this popped into my mind. You know mame many folks get Peyton's autograph but they don't have anything that belongs to him. I point to a half bottle of Gatorade Peyton had been drinking out of and left on the table. I said it's all your's if you want it. She got this big grin and asked are you sure? Me "better grab it if you want it". She was so happy and shared her joy with her husband.

So somewhere out in America there could be a rancid Gatorade bottle with Peyton's DNA sitting on a shelf.

    • Allen had zero receivers to throw too those first years..he didn't just magically get better with accuracy his third year ..he got better cause diggs joined the team..
    • I hope he can last till the Colts pick.
    • The more I consider it, the more concerned I get.  When I look at the first year statistical comparisons that I posted earlier, Mitchell looks a whole lot more like Phillip Dorsett than he does anyone else.   Mitchell - 13 games | 7 starts | 20 catches on 45 targets (44.4%) | 254 yds | 0 TD's | 19.5 yds/game Downs - 17 games | 9 starts | 68 catches on 98 targets (69.4%) | 771 yds | 2 TD's | 45.4 yds/game Pittman - 13 games | 8 starts | 40 catches on 51 targets (65.6%) | 503 yds | 1 TD | 38.7 yds/game Moncrief - 16 games | 2 starts | 32 catches on 49 targets (65.3%) | 444 yds | 3 TD's | 27.8 yds/game Hilton - 15 games | 1 start | 50 catches on 90 targets (55.6%) | 861 yds | 7 TD's | 57.4 yds/game Dorsett - 11 games | 0 starts | 18 catches on 39 targets (46.2%) | 225 yds | 1 TD | 20.5 yds/game Wayne - 13 games | 9 starts | 27 catches on 49 targets (55.1%) | 345 yds | 0 TD's | 26.5 yds/game
    • As we go through our discussions and observations for Richardson, we've mostly used two quarterbacks as comparison:  Josh Allen (for his early inaccuracy, strong arm, and ability to run) and Cam Newton (for his imposing physicality and strong arm). There's one other quarterback that I feel needs to be in the conversation: Justin Fields Through his career in Chicago, he was a phenomenon running the ball.  He ran for over 1100 yards in 2022!  But he had a lot less success throwing the ball.  So much so that the team finally decided to move on from him after only 3 seasons. I'm not saying "Richardson is exactly like Fields".  But I am saying that the comparison has merit, and bears watching.
    • I implore you to go back and watch the tape from his first 2 seasons. His accuracy was woeful.
