It's been awhile since we had one and to celebrate why not throw out a Mock Draft.

Big Move Ballard

Trading down

Pick 15 (1,050)

For

Pick 24 and 55 (1,090)

15.* Ravens

Aireonte Ersery OT

Ravens jump in front of a few teams (Texans, Cardinals, and possibly the Rams and/or Seahawks) for a OT

Colts finally lean into developing AR and move down for more opportunities to surround him with support.

24. Jihaad Campbell LB 6'3 245lbs

This organization does a good job at identifying and developing LBs. Later picks have consistently turned into starters and Ballard last high draft pick (Shaq Leonard) at this position is ring of honor worthy.

2nd Kevin Winston Jr. SAF 6'2 201lbs

Bradley scheme goes to another level with a outstanding safety. The NFL is no different when you look at the league leaders in interceptions.

2nd TJ Sanders DT 6'4 290lbs

Our run defense was a glaring problem. We are rightfully so paying Defo and Grover. Sanders should make a good understudy.

3rd Azareye'h Thomas CB 6'2 198lbs

As odd as it maybe I still have some faith in JuJu. Thomas fit our traditional mold of what Gus looks for in CBs.

4th Tahj Brooks RB Texas Tech 5'10 230lbs

The organization hasn't had any problems finding RBs but with JT missing games more frequently it's not a bad idea to invest a decent draft pick. Brooks has experience running out of the shotgun.

5th Emory Jones Jr G/OT LSU 6'6 315lbs

Jones has regressed this season compared to last but he's still my draft crush. I think we can slide him into Will Fries spot immediately and he will look like a stud. If you look at when Jones Jr was successful it was when he was blocking for Jayden Daniels a mobile QB. AR is a mobile QB and having competition for the eventual replacement for Braden Smith wouldn't hurt.

6th Savion Williams TE/WR/RB 6"4 225lbs

Granson is a free agent and Williams should fill his role. Jim Bob Cooter can use Williams in a similar fashion as Evan Egram (Jaguars) and/or Demaryius Thomas (Broncos).

7th Kendal Daniels SAF/LB Oklahoma State 6'4 230lbs

Decent size developmental player who can play special teams immediately.

Hope everyone enjoyed the win as much as I did and onto the Detroit Lions.

Jump right in and drop my notes on all your players then provide what I feel are better options based on following their season so far.

MLB Jihaad Campbell (Alabama) – 6’3” 244-pound starting junior – 2024 Week 1 against WKU had an elite 87.5 grade.  Week 6 against Vandy had a 38.5 grade. (78.7 season grade after 6 weeks) Week 7 against South Carolina locked. (76.7 season grade) 2024 Midseason Third-Team All-American. Week 8 against ranked TENN locked. (75.4 season grade) Week 9 against MIZ locked but had 8 TOTs, 1 sack.  His 66 TOT R5 in the SEC on pace for an All-American season. (75.3 season grade)

SS Kevin Winston Jr (PSU) junior – 2% missed tackle rate ranked 2nd among all safeties in 2023.  His 90.6 run-defense grade was third among FBS safeties. Poor 51.6 PFF grade against Bowling Green in Week 2. Week 3 bye week. (64.2 season grade).  DNP Week 4 against Kent State. Week 5 DNP against #19 Illinois.  Week 6 DNP against UCLA. DNP Week 7. Week 10 against UNC earned a 69.1 grade on 66 snaps finished with 5 TOT and was the highest-graded RDEF with 77.6. Week 12 against ND locked. (77.4 overall season grade)

RB Tahj Brooks (Texas Tech) 5’10” 230 pounds – 2023 TOW 12 honors.  In 2023 led the nation with 96 forced missed tackles and R4 in both YAC (998) and rushing yards (1547).  96 of his carries went for a first down or TD. An above-average athlete not used much in the passing game.  Carve out a role as a short-yardage specialist.  Week 1 on 69 snaps earned a 73.7 PFF grade R63.  Went 3-3 receiving for 14 yards in Week 1.  No Week 2 stats. (76.4 season grade) Week 4 against ASU – locked. (75.8 season grade) Week 5 against Cincy had a 79.9 grade. (80.7 season grade) 3 career fumbles in 46 career games against 13 ranked opponents. (79.5 season grade) Week 11 against Colorado locked. (78.8 overall season grade)

OT Emery Jones Jr (LSU) – Week 1 on 64 snaps earned a 52 PFF grade R369.  Improved in Week 2 with a 72.0 PFF grade (62.0 overall season grade).  Week 3 against South Carolina locked. (60.2 season grade).  Week 4 against UCLA – locked. (58.9 season grade) Week 5 against South Alabama – locked. Week 6 bye. (59.0 season grade) Week 7 against ranked Ole Miss locked. (58.8 season grade) Week 8 against Arkansas had a 51.9 grade. (56.9 season grade) Week 9 against Texas A&M 50.5 grade. (54.9 season grade) Week 11 against Alabama had an elite 76.5 grade. (58.4 season grade) Week 12 against Florida had a solid 73.5 grade. (60.0 overall season grade)

WR-X Savion Williams (TCU) - Made Bruce Feldman’s Freaks List at #47.  6’4” was #56 in 2023. Posted a 40” vertical and 10-6 broad jump.  Been clocked 22.5 mph, squatted 600, benched 355, power cleaned 350 pounds.  A former HS QB with arm strength.  Week 1 on 15 targets caught 11-85 yards (7.7 avg) and 1 TD.  Week 2 showed off his arm throwing a 15-yard pass while also catching 5-69 (13.8 avg) for an 85.0 grade.

Kendal Daniels actually don’t have data on him.

Love the fact you traded back in Round 1 and agree with your areas of need for draft picks much in alignment with my own.

Round 1) WLB Chris Paul Jr. “Pooh” (Ole Miss) 6’1” 235-pound junior 4.62s – 2024 Midseason Second-Team All-American. After 7 weeks has 46 TOT, 2.5 sacks and 3 PBUs. After 8 weeks has a 90.9 overall season grade and has the most pressures among LBs with 19 while earning nearly 80.0+ grades in every category, 90.9 defense, 88.8 RDEF, 81.8 TACK, 79.8 PRSH, and 87.8 Coverage.  Nations best LB with 58 TOT, 8 TFLs, 2.5 sacks, 7 QB hurries and 4 PBUs. After 9 weeks has a 90.0 defense grade, 90.1 RDEF, 85.1 TACK, 80.3 PRSH, 90.3 coverage grades. Week 12 against Georgia locked. (90.9 overall season grade) – Slated at WLB but if his 40-time is slower around 4.62s then would consider moving to MLB doubt the top LB would fall this far back in Round 1. Comparable to your Jihaad Campbell pick.

·         MLB Jackson Woodard (UNLV) 6’3” 230-pound 4.58s-forty – 2023 had 116 TOT, 2.5 sacks, 1 INT and 3 PBUs, 9 TFLs and R2 in Mountain West with 52 stops. Named to Midseason First-Team. After 6 weeks has 57 TOT, 3 sacks, 1 FR, 4 INTs, and 7 PBUs. Week 4 against Fresno State had a 76.0 grade. Week 5 against Syracuse had a 71.1 grade.  After 11 weeks has 85 TOTs, 3.5 sacks, 1 FR, 4 INTs, and 8 PBUs.  Would be my second option for MLB.

Round 2a) SS Lathan Ransom (OSU) 6’1” 210-pounds 4.53s – Week 1 on 55 snaps earned a 77.8 PFF grade good R31st nationally.  Week 2 a 62.7 PFF grade (61.3 grade on 41 snaps) (74.8 season grade).  Week 3 bye week (72.8 season grade).  Week 4 against Marshall had a 77.4 grade. (78.7 season grade) Week 5 against MSU – locked. (77.1 season grade) Week 6 against Iowa locked. (82.6 season grade) Week 7 against #3 Oregon had a 78.0 grade. DNP Week 9 against Nebraska. (88.6 season grade) Week 10 against PSU locked. (89.9 season grade) Week 11 against Purdue didn’t allow a reception across 17 coverage snaps and had 1 INT and a tackle for a defensive stop for an elite 91.5 grade. (91.0 season grade) His 88.5 COV grade is top-15 among SAFs. Week 12 against NW locked. (90.2 overall season grade) Ransom to me is the top SS in this draft class.  Winston hasn’t played much this season has when he did looks more like an UDFA.

·         SS Malachi Moore (Alabama) 6’0” 201-pound – Against Vandy had a 60.4 grade. Against MIZ had a 79.9 grade.  (84.6 overall season grade) low missed TACK. Moore is my second-best SS in this draft class.

Round 2b) Vernon Broughton (Texas) 6’4” 305-pounds, measured in 6’5” 286 pounds from HS with a 5.03s-forty speed - Week 1 earned a 73.0 PFF grade on 22 snaps.  Week 2 against Michigan had a 73.8 grade. Week 3 against UTSA on 30 snaps earned a 65.1 grade. Broughton is the highest-graded defender for Texas in run-defense with a 73.7 grade (R47 in SEC). After 3 weeks on 90 snaps has 3 QB pressures, 1 PBU and 6 tackles, 74.2 RDEF, 74.8 PRSH grades. Week 5 against MISST earned an 86.9 grade finishing with 5 TOT, a sack, 1 FF. Week 6 bye. (87.7 overall season grade) hasn’t missed a tackle yet has an 84.6 Pass-rushing grade. Agree our RDEF is a problem especially looking how poorly Grover played this past weekend.

·         NT Simeon Barrow Jr. Miami (FL) 6’3” 290-pounds – After 6 weeks has an elite 84.7 grade on 173 snaps generating 17 TOT, 4.5 TFLs, and 3.5 sacks with 14 QB pressures and has an 84.4 RDEF grade, 80.6 TACK grade not missing a tackle on the season. (84.7 season grade) Week 12 against GT locked. (82.6 overall season grade) Option 2 fits both RDEF and TACK.

Round 3 RCB like Azareye’h Thomas a lot and agree we could use another solid option with to compete with Jaylon Jones but have a much lower grade on him.  Better options are below and right now am very high on Chandler Rivers playing RCB right now at a high level but is projected to move to nickel role in the NFL and with Kenny’s age and contract set to expire in two years.

·         SCB- RCB Chandler Rivers (Duke) 5’10” 180-pounds – Against UNC had a 62.9 grade. Against Florida had an elite 84.9 grade. (87.0 overall season grade) on the small size and would move to slot. Proved can out jump Sam Brown Jr 6’2 and Arroyo at 6’4”

·         RCB Zy Alexander (LSU) 6’2” 194-pound backup– Week 2 led team with an 82.3 PFF grade on 34 snaps with a pair PBUs, 3 tackles plus pair of solo stops.  Recovered from a torn ACL injury suffered in 2023 and been in/out of LSU lineup all season due to injuries. Week 7 against #9 MISS led defense with an 88.6 grade. After 4 games has 12 TOT, 2 INTs and 2 PBUs. After 7 weeks on 105 coverage snaps has 2 INTs and 2 PBUs.  Only allowed a 4.4 passer rating. (88.9 season grade) Week 12 against Florida locked. (86.2 overall season grade) Another solid option I like in Round 3.

·         RCB Mello Dotson (Kansas) 6’1” 190-pounds (83.9 overall season grade) allowed 31 catches for 404 yards. Hands for INTs (2-Pic 6’s) and 5 PBUs in 2023 had 11 PBUs.

Round 4 also have an issue with JT missing games and here are his grades from the Jets game: 45.0 overall, 53.0 PASS, 25.9 PBLK, 47.5 RUN, 56.8 RBLK.  My top RB pick in this draft class is Henderson can run, catch, and block.  If we trade back late in Round 1 this would be my ideal pick as I’ve got an early Round 2 grade on him.

·         RB Treveyon Henderson (OSU) 5’10” 208 pounds – no history of fumbling and decent hands 71%, and 72% run blocking with 63% pass blocking.  Henderson bounced back after an injury-riddled sophomore season.  His 89.9 PFF rushing grade in 2023 was good for top-20 among Power Five RBs.  Led all Big Ten backs with a 73.6 PFF receiving grade.  In 2024 will share the load with Quinshon Judkins who transferred from Ole Miss.  4 times as fastest player in 2023, clocked at 21.6 mph in Week 12.  Prior history of broken bone in his left foot.  Week 1 on 24 snaps earned a 70.8 PFF grade/69.2 PFF grade R113th.  Week 2 a 69.7 PFF grade (72.5 season grade). Week 3 bye week. Week 4 against Marshall had an 85.3 grade. (80.2 season grade) Week 5 against MSU had a 68.5 grade. (79.5 season grade) 2 career fumbles in 35 career games. Week 6 against Iowa had a 67.9 grade. (79.3 season grade) Week 7 against #3 Oregon had a 65.0 grade. (78.6 season grade) Week 9 against Nebraska had a 58.8 grade.  Week 10 against PSU locked. (79.9 season grade) Week 11 against Purdue locked. (82.5 season grade) Week 12 against NW locked. (84.1 overall season grade)

·         LT Hollin Pierce (Rutgers) 6’8” 344 pounds – Week 1 against Howard had a 78.1 grade. Week 2 against Akron – locked. Week 3 against VT locked.  Week 4 against Washington had an 83.2 grade. (90.0 season grade) Week 6 against Nebraska had a 57.2 grade. (84.1 season grade) Week 7 against Washington 83.2 grade. (86.1 season grade) Week 8 against UCLA locked. (85.8 season grade) Week 9 against USC locked. (86.1 season grade) Week 11 against MINN locked. (82.9 season grade) Week 12 against Maryland locked. (84.9 overall season grade) Pierce looks like a future swing tackle much better option over the struggling Emery Jones.

Round 5) WR-SL/PR-KR Jaylin Noel (Iowa St) 5’11” 200-pounds - Prior to start of season was tied for 4th with 33 consecutive games with a catch. PFF TOW 1 and 2 honors. Week 12 against Cincy had a 56.6 grade. (82.6 overall season grade) Ashton Dulin is an upcoming FA and Downs backup.  Like Noel doubling down on a productive slot receiver who also can play special teams and give Downs relief as a return man minimizing injuries.

Round 6) TE Jalin Conyers (Texas Tech) - In 2022 Conyers forced 21 missed tackles which led all TEs in the country.  Plus, ranked 4th in receiving yards after contact (170).  As a redshirt freshman in 2021 had a 73.5 pass-blocking grade while playing at Arizona State.  Conyers can be elusive with the ball in his hands.  In his first season was used heavily as a run-blocker (2021) and excelled as a blocker ranking him 4th in the Pac-12.  Back in August 2023 Rick Spielman said he may be the best run-blocking TE in the class behind Cade Stover.  Considered a true Y TE efficient at run-blocking and can catch with run-after ability.  Spielman said last year would have had a Late Day 2 grade, while Ryan Wilson says Rounds 3-4.  Potential to be a red zone monster in the NFL if he continues to grow his game.  Ja’Tavion Sanders fell to Round 3 in 2024 and was projected to be better than Conyers.  Big fan of Cowboys.  After 3 weeks has an 83.7 overall PFF grade and with Texas Tech excelling in run-blocking.

Round 7) NCB-SS Daylan Carnell (Missouri) 6’2” 218-pound junior from INDY. 2022 had 29 TOTs, 3 TFLs, 6 PBUs and 5 takeaways.  2023 had 51 TOT, 6 TFLs, 3 sacks, 7 PBUs, and 2 * plus 1-Pic 6. Solid in RDEF. Week 2 against UB had a 52.2 grade. Week 11 against Oklahoma had an elite 81.8 grade. (80.0 overall season grade)

OT Emery Jones Jr (LSU) – Week 1 on 64 snaps earned a 52 PFF grade R369.  Improved in Week 2 with a 72.0 PFF grade (62.0 overall season grade).  Week 3 against South Carolina locked. WR-X Savion Williams (TCU) - Made Bruce Feldman’s Freaks List at #47.  6’4” was #56 in 2023.

Great notes, I was tempted in trading our 2nd and 5th to move up in the round to grab Josh Simmons (ohio state) or Cameron Williams (Texas). AR hides flaws on our offensive line but I need him to be able to focus on mechanics and not be under duress.

RB Coach John Settle – Coached JT at Wisconsin and currently the RB coach at Rice.  Taylor rushed for 1977 yards in 2017, 2194 yards in 2018, and 2003 yards in 2019.

BAL has 11 draft picks - Trade back with Ravens get R2P – My top choices (SS, RDE, DT) are off the draft board.

R1) RB Treveyon Henderson (OSU) – Henderson replaces another former Buckeye in Sermon also adds great 1-2 combination behind JT much like the Eagles, Ravens, and Lions have done behind an OL than can RBLK with the best of them.  JT missing time past few seasons has caused concern as well.  Henderson is well rounded and should succeed.  Maybe just reminiscing old days especially in 2011 with Cam Newton rushing for 700 yards, DeAngelo Williams ran for 836 yards, and Jonathan Stewart had 761 yards.  Same year Cam threw for over 4000 yards.  Build a 3-headed monster with AR, JT, and Henderson along with our WR weapons.

R2a) RG Addison West (W Michigan) – Assume AR continue to be the future QB and the Colts will need to be dominate at both PBLK and RBLK.  West has proven he can do both well this year against lesser competition. West should have a solid career much like Quinn Meinerz and our own Raimann have proven coming out of smaller D schools. We’ve got some decision to make with OC Kelly, RG Will Fries whom love to have back and am sure surprised folks playing at the high level he was prior to his injury but figured would tail off as the season progressed tbh.  OL Danny Pinter back in 2021 looked like a solid long-term option but production fell off in 2022 and was never heard of again in either 2023-2024.  Dislike breaking up the combo, but RFA Wesley French got to go as well.  Guess the bonus is Matt Goncalves being an all-around OL where the Colts believe he can play center as well and has been a surprise swing tackle much like Pinter was his first season.

R2b) NT Simeon Barrow Jr. Miami (FL) – Grover Stewart is near the end of his career and Bryan is gone after this season and Raekwon experiment with the Colts appears to be a flop and could see him released for cap savings.

R3) MLB Chris Paul Jr. (Ole Miss) – Listed as a WLB but his 40-time that I found is too slow if accurate and better suited at MLB.

R4) WLB David Bailey (Stanford) – Bailey got that skillset reminds me of the original “Maniac.”

R5 WR-SL/KR-PR Jaylin Noel (Iowa State) – Noel would replace Ashton Dulin as Downs backup in the slot is another PR.

R6 NCB-RCB Chandler Rivers (Duke) – Rivers has a smaller build and is projected to move from RCB to

NCB role in the NFL.  Having an experienced DB that can play Jaylon Jones role is a big plus for the Colts and provides assurances that he could potentially play at a high level for Kenny’s spot.

R7 NCB Daylan Carnell (Missouri) 6’2” 218-pound – Chris Lammons is an upcoming FA.  Colts add a former Indianapolis local to compete with Carnell.

This is one direction the Colts could opt to go.  Still would like to add RDE, SS, FS along with a few of the names mentioned above but nearly impossible to do.  Shocked to see either LBs Chris Paul or David Bailey fall pass Round 3 tbh as they are probably my two top LBs in this class.  Depending on how AR finishes off the season we may consider taking QB Jaxson Dart on Day 1 and have two hopefully quality QBs on our roster instead of picking up another washed-out veteran.

I’ve been thinking a lot about succession issues on the OL.  We may be in for a major reshuffling this offseason.

Salary cap casualty: Braden Smith.  Due to count $16million against the cap, with dead money of $2.5million.  Gotta restructure OL for Raimann contract.  Fries will be too expensive after his start for the year, so he’s gone too.  Easier to afford Kelly back, keeping 60% of the starting line intact.

RT will be a competition between Goncalves and Freeland (and possibly a swing tackle from the draft).  Personally, I think Freeland could be a really good RT, even though he’s a terrible LT (a lot like Braden Smith).  My projected starting OL:

LT Raimann

LG Nelson

C Kelly

RG Goncalves (get the best 5 in there)

RT Freeland

I'll let Braden Smith play out his contract. I think the refs are over correcting with the penalty calling.

My strategy would be let Kelly walk and bring in Teven Jenkins from the Bears. I think his injury history similar to Mekhi Becton will make him cheaper than his worth (pff grades from 2022 to now) 80.7, 72.6 and 75.5 so far this year.

Give him 2 year contract and sandwich Tanor B. between 2 great guards plus Jenkins have experience at tackle.

Something like 2 years 16 million, 12 guaranteed some bonuses for 80% of the snaps played like 1.5 million each year.

So next year I would like

LT Raimann

LG Nelson

C TB

RG Jenkins

RT Smith

I love it. Addresses all of our biggest issues in the first 3 rounds, and all of our lesser issues get some good upside depth as well. Good stuff. Really like the players too.
