For example, Ryan Kelly is not holding up to what she should be performing in the interior OL, and NEEDS TO BE TRADED before the deadline, but Ballard won’t do it. This team is apathetic to the problems it has and doesn’t want to hold people accountable. I bet Ballard won’t make any trades even though some players need to be dealt away. This team and franchise needs to overhauled.

Accountability starts at the top.

When the owner calls a sub 500 GM "blue chip" and compares a coach that seems to have forgotten how to run an offense to Don Shula, he apparently doesn't see the same thing we do.

Ballard refused to upgrade the defense.  And if anyone's defense needs players, it's Bradleys.  Shane is showing more every week that maybe this job is too big for him.

Personally, I don't think we need to trade Kelly.  He's well respected in the locker room and is still a good C.  That's just my opinion.  I do agree that Ballard isn't going to do any trading.

But bottom line - it starts with having a franchise QB who can keep the offense on the field.  We know it's not Joe.  Let's just spend the rest of the season finding out if we have one on the team.

Bench everybody.  Fire everybody.  That will fix it, but we won't have any players or coaches.

Accountability by benching doesn't help.  It hurts the team if the next man up sucks.

I like Shane and think he is good , but this team needs a coach like Vrabel that is tough on players and hold them accountable. This team has no accountability this year. Ryan Kelly knows this his last year and he hasn’t been playing up to the “standard”. The oline need a dog on it someone that will knock the hell out of a guy for slamming there QBs not standing around watching

The team is trying to be competitive this year.   Trading away players is a move for the future.  That’s a mixed message.

Odds are this will be Kelly’s last season with the Colts.   He’ll be with a new team next year and Bortolini will be his replacement.

What did Vrabel do to hold players accountable?

I agree that Irsay is probably overstating it when he calls Ballard a "blue chip" GM.  And Steichen has been a head coach for only a season and a half.  Far to early to compare him to Don Shula.

However, I would take issue with the idea that Ballard "refuses" to upgrade the defense.  In the past four years, he's spend two first round picks on defensive ends (Paye, Latu), a second round pick on a defensive lineman (Odeyingbo), a second round pick on a corner (Brents), and a third round pick on a safety (Cross).  All while he had to draft for pressing needs like QB, OL, and WR at the same time.

Now, you can make a very valid point that what he did hasn't panned out. Paye and Odeyingbo are serviceable, but haven't shown themselves to be fully worth their draft position.  Brents has been injured too often to know what he is.  And Latu is still learning to play at this level.  You could also make a valid point that he's not gone hard into free agency to shore up weak points.  And there's always the point that his hand-picked coordinator hasn't produced a defense that does much.  All very valid points.  I just disagree with the idea that he has refused to do anything at all.

Shane has not been a good coach. I would love to see the Colts get Vrabel, especially if they go down and whomp on Tennessee.

You stated it a lot more clearly than I did.  I did mean that he refused to upgrade the defense with outside FA's.  He was well aware of Brents injury history, and how inexperienced we were at CB and S.

In a way, his logic paid off because even if he brought in a cover corner, Gus would still make him play off the receiver.  We could probably have Sanders and Revis in their prime and still be giving receivers a 10 yard cushion on 3rd and 8.

Hey that’s very, very kind of you to say!

I’ve got a small problem….

I support Ballard, Steichen and Richardson.  And right now NONE of them are having a very good 2024 season.  How is my gift for understatement?

So I don’t have much to say.   People don’t need or want to hear from me.   So I’m posting much less.  I try to respond only to the most over the top posts.   And try much harder than normal to keep the temperature in the room down.   More light, but less heat.   Nobody needs more heat this season.

Hope this explains my low profile.

    • Because I have eyes and I can see what our defense is doing, I can see what instructions he's giving, where they are lined up, how many are rushing, how many are deep, etc. and I can make an informed deduction about what's happening. And in this case Tice is absolutely correct and what he saw was what I saw too and it looked exactly like what he describes - Gus Bradley had no idea they were trying to get into long FG range. He was only thinking about the Hail Mary.    I have no idea why you always give the benefit of the doubt to everybody in this organization despite what you can actually see with your own two eyes.   Of course Steichen won't say anything mid-season about his DC. Hell, even if he fires him after the season he still won't say anything overly negative, because this is the business and it's bad for business to burn bridges and flame people with reputation and long time careers in the league.   You can still watch what happens and make a conclusion for yourself. I promise you, the world won't end if you don't take the word of the GM, HC or the DC as gospel. As amazing as you think they are, they are not the chosen, infallible ones.
    • Have you perhaps had a little too much holiday cheer?   Some spiked eggnog?     “…. If the fans can see it, why can’t the Colts brass?”   Since I arrived here nearly 13 years ago, I have always maintained that the dumbest GM of all-time — whoever you think that is — knows more about football than anyone in our community.   And it likely isn’t even close.      For what it’s worth, people here used to think Granson sucked.   Then Steichen was hired and eventually was asked about his tight end room.  And he said nice things about several players, but most of all Granson.   Suddenly people here said nice things about Granson and he had a decent 2023.     For some unknown reason, the whole Colts TE room has fallen off this season including Granson.   But this idea that he should never play another snap again is embarrassing.     If you look again at the first paragraph I wrote I tried to give you a way out.  A chance to say you were blowing off steam and you really didn’t mean it.  I hope you’ll take that to heart.  You’re much smarter than this.
    • Yeah I want Gus gone but even I admit firing Gus right now serves no point.  His contract is up at the end of the year.  I think the Colts decline to renew it and move on.
