This guy has virtually done nothing. The highest touted pass rusher in the draft and the last 2 weeks has shown a nothing burger on the stat sheet.

I'm not sure if he is hurt but he wasn't part of the inactive last night so where is/was he?

This guy has 2 sacks over the span of 8 games and only 9 tackles.

Not gonna lie, his stats have definitely been a disappointment.

Three weeks ago, I made a post about how good his ranking is compared to all other DE's drafted by us in the past dozen years.  And in the two weeks since then, he's only gotten 1 QB pressure in each of those games.  Bleah.

Posted

I thought he was close several times last night, just didn't get home. Once they start coming, they will come in quick succession, imo. I hope I'm right on that. He's got a motor.

He forced Darnold to step up right into the Paye sack last night. That was one that was obvious.

I still think our defense will be better with a new DC Bradley should have been fired last year and if we do not make the playoffs I am sure Ballard will be replaced and a new DC will be chosen. Shane has lost my confidence he always says we need to get better but we do not. Taylor only had 14 rushes and was out of the game in key plays in the second half. Taylor is our best player on offense and once again he is underused.  this team is so meh and it tough to watch the boneheaded plays that could have us beating Houston twice.

Posted

Hes way to wild when he rushes.. i seen him on multiple occasions get back there but blows right past the qb and the qb just steps up. He doesnt have control yet, and is going way too fast. Hes try to beat the offense by pure speed which he does a lot but he cant settle down when he gets around that corner.

Latu will be OK. There are much bigger problems with our team than a rookie EDGE having an up and down rookie season.

I agree.  But he has a point.  Late usually looks he’s being pushed around or easily neutralized unless they just have a TE on him.

I hope it’s because he’s young and inexperienced, or just not in NFL shape yet.

He also needs to hit the gym i think.. by the looks of it (I could be wrong) he doesn't look strong at all upper body. He relies on speed and his moves which is good but sometimes if not most you still need strength to push them back. Just wait until he has an offseason of NFL weight training.

Verse and Turner have definitely been out performing him so far, but still lots of ball to be played.

Turner barely plays, so he hasn’t done much. But he’s also two years younger and is being brought along slowly.

Latu was supposed to be NFL ready because he will turn 24 this year. Hopefully they start coming.

I actually had him 3rd out of the 3 ERs in this draft because I liked Turner’s age/pedigree and Verse’s overall game.

And Verse looks to be a potentially great ER. But we will see.

It may be time to check out for a while. This place has gone loco.

I forgot that, as a society, we want instant gratification on EVERYTHING now. There is no more learning and growing or developing. He should be an all-pro right now, correct?

Jesus

Well he was considered the best defensive player in the draft, compared to great NFL ERs and hyped all off season.

There were very high expectations for him, so I don’t know if a halfway mark check-in is really considered “loco.”

He looks like he's still carrying a lot of baby fat. Think he definitely can be a 10 sack guy per year.

Yeah...to make an issue of Latu of all things is pretty silly imo. Probably more a shot at Ballard. Fans really being fans right now. After losses, I usually don't come back here till Wednesday or so to let fans regain their sanity. But I have nothing going on this week! LOL!  It's all good.

Latu has gotten a lot of pressure so far this season, so while he hasn't shown up on the stat sheet as much as we'd like, he's still had an impact. His pressures have caused rushed throws and have gotten teammates sacks. He's also been without Buckner for a lot of the season, which meant teams could double him. I'd expect to see the pressures turn into sacks soon.

I agree. Everyone has lost it.

The team did the fans no favors by signaling they're trying to win now and compete for the division.

In other words, I feel like our dline was awesome last night, no? Felt like we were on there * all game just about.

I agree. D-line was doing their part. Big Grove had 2 sacks I think. That doesn't happen too often.

Minnesota has a lot to be happy about last night, but I think they should be worried about their offensive line.

Latu is not my biggest concern, and I think we does get pressure.

however, if  he for some reason doesn't get better - which I doubt, there's another conversation about ballard to be had.

Dayo and Paye are having decent seasons, but how long did it take for them to start clicking?

He's not explosive. He reacts late off the snap

your eyes are deceiving you!

What I mean is in comparison to the other  Colt rush ends . I agree, he almost got there a couple of times. However, he does not have that elite explosive trait. He will have to win with his moves. Even coming out, he was not a great Dend because he was explosive.

Latu will likely end up being the best edge rusher Ballard has drafted.  But the bigger problem here is that he didn't recognize how dominant Verse is.  Verse is ridiculous.

I didn't think Verse would be who he is either.  But then I'm not paid to see it.

Ballard's biggest problem as GM is that he seems to consistently fail to find the impact players.  But I do think Latu is a good edge and will continue to improve.

I am sorry I just don't know what some of you are seeing.  I watch him and he just looks like Werner 2.0 to me.   Weak.  Not super great athletically.  He just looks soft to me.

And on a petty note, his haircut and dye job do him no favors haha.  Hideous.    It makes him look even more weak.

For Ballard supposedly being such a great drafter?  Only 2 rookies played last night and neither affected the game, and that has been the story all season.  Mitchell and Latu.

Ballard said he drafted “The best pass rusher in the draft”.

So you’ve decided after half of his rookie season?   Seriously?

Ha!! Are you serious right now?

This guy was highly touted as the best pass rusher in the draft by many... but on another note

It's been 8 years now with zero gratification and you are spouting about the fact that we want "instant" gratification? Well DUH...

You don't need to check out, you need to check in as clearly you have zero clue here.  Seems to me when these players come to Indy it takes them years to sniff relevancy if ever at all.

The wolves are at the door all over in here because this entire process, which also includes player production, has been taking way too long.

What do you mean decided half way? When did I say I already have my mind up on him?

So far, he isn’t the best pass rusher. Long way to go.

I'm right behind ya...these "fans" are whack jobs.

Well what if Colts traded up from 15 to 13 and drafted Brock Bowers ?

This offense would look completely different with AR throwing to Bowers as a safety blanket.

Maybe AR would still be starting!

I'm not saying you are speaking to me per se however "whack" job fans?

I'm not saying Latu needs to be an all pro, but this guy is averaging 1 tackle per game and 2 sacks so far. Let that sink in.

Are you kidding me?

You could get 1 tackle per game just by falling down at a ball carriers' feet.

It's okay though because he is a rookie. I'm sure by year 4 he will be averaging 2 tackles a game with a young career number of 5 sacks. But that is going to be fine because he's progressing right?

This guy was hailed as a difference maker player.

:funny:.. Yea. Whack jobs.

Bingo. And again  only 2 rookies have played all year for the most part due to  earning it.  Not because of injuries to other players.  Latu and Mitchell, and even then neither has done much of anything.  So if those 2 earned it?  How bad is our team?  Because they have done nothing.

But Ballard is a draft guru right?

Latu is weak.  Soft.  Looks like he should be hanging out on a street corner in Bakersfield CA.  Does not look like an elite edge rusher to me.

Mitchell I kind of like but he needs major improvement.  But I at least see potential with him.  The other draft picks of 2024 just look like jags.

    • The more I consider it, the more concerned I get.  When I look at the first year statistical comparisons that I posted earlier, Mitchell looks a whole lot more like Phillip Dorsett than he does anyone else.   Mitchell - 13 games | 7 starts | 20 catches on 45 targets (44.4%) | 254 yds | 0 TD's | 19.5 yds/game Downs - 17 games | 9 starts | 68 catches on 98 targets (69.4%) | 771 yds | 2 TD's | 45.4 yds/game Pittman - 13 games | 8 starts | 40 catches on 51 targets (65.6%) | 503 yds | 1 TD | 38.7 yds/game Moncrief - 16 games | 2 starts | 32 catches on 49 targets (65.3%) | 444 yds | 3 TD's | 27.8 yds/game Hilton - 15 games | 1 start | 50 catches on 90 targets (55.6%) | 861 yds | 7 TD's | 57.4 yds/game Dorsett - 11 games | 0 starts | 18 catches on 39 targets (46.2%) | 225 yds | 1 TD | 20.5 yds/game Wayne - 13 games | 9 starts | 27 catches on 49 targets (55.1%) | 345 yds | 0 TD's | 26.5 yds/game
    • As we go through our discussions and observations for Richardson, we've mostly used two quarterbacks as comparison:  Josh Allen (for his early inaccuracy, strong arm, and ability to run) and Cam Newton (for his imposing physicality and strong arm). There's one other quarterback that I feel needs to be in the conversation: Justin Fields Through his career in Chicago, he was a phenomenon running the ball.  He ran for over 1100 yards in 2022!  But he had a lot less success throwing the ball.  So much so that the team finally decided to move on from him after only 3 seasons. I'm not saying "Richardson is exactly like Fields".  But I am saying that the comparison has merit, and bears watching.
    • I implore you to go back and watch the tape from his first 2 seasons. His accuracy was woeful.
    • Nice. I’ve heard people say they think he’s a 1st round caliber corner. I hope he goes to the Senior Bowl.
    • Yup. May be a faster version of Brent’s.
