The Colts announced on Wednesday that they signed defensive end Levi Bell and waived offensive lineman Lewis Kidd.

With Samson Ebukam suffering a season-ending Achilles injury, Titus Leo being carted off during Tuesday’s practice with what Shane Steichen called a knee injury–we still do not know the extent of the injury and Dayo Odeyingbo sidelined the last two practices with a calf injury, the Colts were in need of some defensive end depth.

The 6-1 – 275 pound Bell is an excellent athlete, posting an elite RAS of 9.55 and went undrafted in 2023 out of Texas State.

In his final season, he recorded 41 pressures, six sacks, and was versatile, playing multiple positions along the defensive front, and even took some snaps on offense at fullback, according to PFF...

...Bell has had a fascinating journey so far, and it’s just getting started. He was a USFL College Draft selection by the Panthers in 2023, and ended up signing with the team midway through the season.

Levi was immediately placed on the active roster, tallying his first professional sack that week against Pittsburgh. Bell fit perfectly into Mike Nolan’s defense, and finished the season with 16 tackles and four sacks.

Not only that, but Levi was one of the top graded defenders in the entire USFL. He posted a 92.0 Defensive Grade, showing up week in and week out. In the semi-finals loss against Pittsburgh, Bell notched eight tackles.

This led to an NFL opportunity with the Seattle Seahawks. Bell made an impact in the preseason, and impressed enough to remain on the practice squad throughout the year...

No word on Dayo so this news has me worried. If our DL gets decimated due to injuries we will be pitiful since we have no secondary and LBs are limited. Gus is not creative and lost his edge.

These guys are getting hurt already doing very little. What happens when the pads go on?
