watched him last night, really impressed, cant help but think the colts should have got him in the 3rd round, would have been a great back up and in the end a potential starter or great trade value

Dang, people need to slow down. A few minutes against poorly prepared players and #2's doesn't bonify a players worth. Let the kid prove himself before we start regretting not drafting a position that we didn't need in the first place. For all we know, by the time BB wants to trade him, Mallet's worth might be a mere 7th rounder. Don't buy the hype so fast, fella.

Besides, we should have gone after Leinart last year. If anyone could put his ego in check it would be Peyton, and the kid has strong fundamentals. It's the mental game he needs work on, and Peyton is the perfect mentor for him.

If Nevis is as good as what he's showing in TC, you'd be sorry seeing Mallett sitting on the bench.

Yep, thank you.

A player that does you good on the field is worth far more than a player you don't use that is worth a future draft trade that may or may not get you a player that was in any way worth all the time and trouble in the first place.

the main reason they got him was because NE could afford it with the many draft picks they had ..and he fell to 3rd rnd.

He may fail, great trade, or a starter for NE at some point. Brady may have a contract for 5 yrs or whatever but that doesn't mean he'll play 5 years.

Bottom line..as usual NE had the cards.

It's painfully apparent to me BB likes those hands with lots of good cards in it... he can play around:)

The actual drafting of the player was (like most teams) a good value for the 3rd rnd... and they had multiple 3rd rounds (or ability to acquire them)

If Indy had multiple picks I'm sure they would have grabbed him. Unfortunately Indy has not had multiple picks since I've been on the forum(s)..and that goes way back:)

So don't feel bad you couldn't get him..you simply couldn't afford the pick.

Well, I honestly think Curtis Painter would play well on the Patriots. They are similar to the 49ers of the 90s, where you could use Young, Bono, Grbac, or anyone else and they would look like a Pro Bowler. The Patriots have a great system that allows a QB to look very good. Brian Hoyer looks outstanding.

I get your point, I really do and you are spot on with the Bono and Grbac comments but I just want to state for the record Steve Young was pretty good in his own right.

people in general honestly need to quit jumping on and off the wagon of players when it comes to preseason games. they are what they are and over-glorified practices against players that don't care if they injure each other and helping show each team the potential of their depth. i mean mallet is looking good b/c he's playing against 3rd stringers which are very similar and MAYBE slightly better than the competition he played against in college.

the same is true on espn just bashing blaine gabbert. when a qb is injured and his backup (who may know the system actually unlike gabbert) starts taking snaps for the next game they are making excuses as to why he may not succeed but yet they go and bash gabbert in a meaningless preseason game that he's in the exact same situation. so those who are overly excited on just the first few days of preseason games please take it with a grain of salt and look at things with your own objective view.

Preseason is not practice. Preseason is to put in effect what was practiced. (training camp)

Pro NFL is not college.

3rd string defense isn't starting in 1st,2nd or even 3rd qtr in some cases.

What are you talking about? NE similar to SF of the 90'? The similarities start and end with HOF QB's Brady and Young. Bono and Grbac were "disappointments" in filling in for Young. That is why they were let go so fast, and a CFL QB named Garcia was brought in to take Young's place. New England has not won anything since 04, and not a playoff game since 07.

Yet Matt Painter could be the man their? Seriously... I get tired of the BBilechick love fest. What did he do in Cleveland?

Well so far Mallet was the ONLY good rookie QB thus far in preseason #1. Dalton, Kaepernick were atrocious, Gabbart was ho-hum at best.

The issue with pre season games is "who are trying to win?" The Pats always do... The colts "never" do...

Yet year end year out.... they are equal, and the Colts have the superior record in recent years.

actually steve bono played pretty well for the 49ers. he actually played well for the chiefs too, playing under the same scheme as he did in sf if i remember right. and remember steve young was nothing more than a mediocre usfl qb and a bust with tampa bay before bill walsh got a hold of him.

but i agree, i don't get the patriot comparison. i think brady has played under three different coordinators while in new england...and i don't think josh mcdaniels and charlie weis have much in common....so i don't know what "system" he is referring to.

Despite their overated coach and system QB, they somehow manage to have won more games than the Colts in the last few years.
