I agree completely.

I know Bradley probably hasn’t been delt the best hand with injuries and maybe talent. But, besides with the Seahawks, his scheme hasn’t really worked anywhere. It just seems outdated to me and I think it’s too passive. Too much sitting back and reacting instead of being aggressive and taking the initiative to me.

Honestly, I’d love to know if our corners have the autonomy to decide how close or how far back they want to play?    Or is everything strictly determined by Bradley’s call on any given play?   I wish the media would ask him that.   If they have, I missed it.

So is it fair to think that when Braden Smith comes back, we put in Smith for pass plays and Freeland for run plays?

You are joking but, it's insane how... playable our OL has been with so many injuries and so much turnover all over the line. Our starting OL has played a grand total of 1 full game and two half games together the entire season. And it has not been all smooth sailing, but we've been... solid. Big props to the players that have stepped up and the coaching staff for getting them ready and putting them in position to succeed.

I have no idea how common something like that would be, but I’d guess it’d be reserved for only veteran and great players? How often do rookies and backups get that kind of freedom?

Most GMs that are as highly rated as Ballard still find ways to make the playoffs when they struggle at other positions. If we were doing that, I'd be more forgiving. It took 7 years to do so and hit on the EDGE position. The ironic thing is we still don't have our franchise qb playing until next year and we are possibly making the playoffs because the EDGE position has put us in such a better spot this year on defense.

While you’re ragging on Ballard for the draft pick DE’s he missed on, guys like Justin Houston, Denico Autry,  Engokwe (sp?)  and now Ebukam all send you their warmest regards!

How quickly you forget.

I was going over our losses this year and we had close games We all know we didn't get beat by Cleveland it was the refs It hurt like losing your favorite pet this probably wouldn't have bothered me last year if that happened but this year we're good I think the sad thing is we didn't win or split with Jacksonville that would have us right there The only thing I like beside a colt win is to watch the teams in competition with us lose but we know you can't hope to have someone do the work for you We are a good team Best of luck to us

My 2¢:

First I was fortunate to be at casino and had opportunity to bet on colts at halftime which covered my original bet on steelers. Colts were playing much better in 2nd quarter than Pittsburgh and doing a 180° seemed a logical and smart thing to do.

A very good game by the colts. I think it was Steinchen best coached game along with Minshew who played very well. They definitely came out ready to play unlike the week prior to Bengals and the other important game in Jacksonville. I know the Steelers aren't much but still very satisfying game especially with the lack of success against them and how often the colts disappoint in bigger games...... But they didn't disappoint yesterday and came ready to play in a nationally televised game that had major playoff implications. A wildcard and even a rare division title is possible.

I hope JT comes back soon and Pittman isn't lost for long for the stretch drive.

I didn't forget. Houston and Autry we kept for 2 years I believe. Ngakoue 1 year. Ekubam we still have and he's doing great. It still took 7 years to have a solid pass rush though as I said. Hopefully we have these guys long-term. Ballard finally got it right.

I just rewatched the final 2 minutes since I had to miss them during the game. I freaking love Steichen. He assumed the Steelers will let the time run out since it would have left them something like 35 seconds for a 3 score game otherwise and let Minshew kneel it down. The Steelers decided to be smartasses and called the timeout.

What did Steichen do? You could see him on the sidelines * off. "Oh, you gonna play those games?" Two runs down the middle to waste a bit more time and make the FG even easier and he let Gay kick the FG. Steichen has the killer instinct. He doesn't let anything slide and he extracts everything he can from a game. If there is a coaching thing to do to give the team an edge he will do it. Love it.

Hard as nails - a future Hall of Fame coach decides to mess around with a rookie HC.  Tomlin probably expected SS to just shrug it off.  Nah.

Hey, you want to play 60 minutes to the last second, no problem, I will oblige, says Steichen. :)

Yeah, Steichen is the fiery coach the Colts fans have been clamoring for. Not the yelling kind but the fiery kind that is intense and holds folks accountable, and most importantly, WINS by being prepared for most situations.

To be honest I think any coach would have done what Steichen did at the end of the game.  He was angry at the time out and in a perfect position to kick a field goal.  It had nothing to do with killer instinct.  He was going to run out the clock until provoked by Tomlin.  It had nothing to do with killer instinct.  It really didn’t.

I like where this team and this roster as a whole is headed.  I feel we are about to get back to regular winning seasons and playoffs like we used to. We are good from the owner, to the GM, down to the coach like we used to be.  Those are the critical pieces you need in place to go somewhere.  And I like what we've got in place at QB for the future in Richardson.

Loved that too. He's not going to be pushed around by any one!

agreed, except I’m not sold on the qb yet. Hopefully he is.

To be fair Gay has been struggling. Could of just been doing thst to get him another kick.

That second half was domination. The way we ran the ball with two backups is crazy. Now hopefully Pittman can get back next week.

Chloe tweeted "colts need a turnover" and it was like the very next play, boom.. int! O line was dominating and fans had the juju going on too!

Yeah I think some are seeing what they want to see.  I remember when Tony Dungy was trying to do the samething to the Ravens several years ago and they called a timeout.  The very next play Dungy had the Colts take a shot into the endzone.  It’s what coaches do it’s like saying hey I was trying to call the dogs off and not embarrass you further so if you won’t take that fine I’ll embarrass you further.

It was also fourth down and long.  Why burn a play you might need at some point to put it on film for that situation by going for it?  They were also too close to punt so the logical thing was just to kick the field goal.

I would hold him out since it seems whoever we have at rb are getting the job done.  Like I said before, it’s more about the o-line than the backs.

First time posting.  Not sure if this has been addressed already or not but I was wondering if anyone has discussed the first TD play for the Steelers.  Wasn't the official in the lower left-hand corner of the screen signaling a false start?  See the video (1:41-1:43 or 1:09 on the game clock).  Obviously it didn't end up having much of an impact on the outcome of the game.  Never heard any mention of this from anyone.  Just interested to know what I'm missing.

Maybe he was calling illegal procedure?

They originally thought the ball came out before breaking the plane, so it was ruled a fumble. On fourth down the only person who can recover and advance a fumble is the fumbler.

Same! Just another example of how locked in he is.

And unlike some other coaches, he's not rude or combative, he's not being a jerk in pressers. I get annoyed at him brushing off questions that I think deserve more consideration, but even then, he doesn't owe specific answers to anyone. He's not thumping his chest like Nick Sirianni, etc.

He's a high level strategist, has great attention to detail, and he appears to enforce a high standard.

yes, that is what the call was, but none of it mattered after the review showed he crossed the goal line before fumbling.

One thing that hasn’t been talked about because the Pittman hit has been bigger news, is that Zach Moss’ injury was also from an illegal tackle when he was horse collared.

Steelers literally hurt two of our biggest players with illegal hits, now that’s dirty and I’m glad we beat them.

    • Here’s a fun exercise! Let’s go over a list of players who have signed, or re-signed here after actually hitting free agency (if top free agents don’t want to come here then surely they don’t stay after hitting FA, right?) and where they have ranked in those free agency classes from credible media outlets!    2012 (Per CBS Sports top 100) Reggie Wayne (Re-signed) -22 Cory Redding - 39 Samson Satele - 68 2013 (Per NFL[dot]com top 85) Gosder Cherilus - 46 LaRon Landry - 57 2014 (Per NFL[dot]com top 101) Hakeem Nicks - 22 Art Jones - 32 D’Qwell Jackson - 49 2015 (Per NFL[dot]com top 101) Andre Johnson - 20 Frank Gore - 29 Trent Cole - 31 Kendall Langford - 64   2016 (Per NFL[dot]com top 99) Patrick Robinson - 79   2017 (Per NFL[dot]com top 101) Jonathan Hankins - 11 Jabaal Sheard - 29 Jack Doyle (Re-signed) - 61 John Simon - 64 Darius Butler (Re-signed) - 100 Margus Hunt - 101   2018 (Per anyone and everyone) None   2019 (Per NFL[dot]com top 101) Justin Houston - 8 Devin Funchess - 45 Pierre Desir (Re-signed) - 46 Clayton Geathers (Re-signed) - 63 2020 (Per NFL[dot]com top 101) Philip Rivers - 11 Anthony Costanzo (Re-signed) - 12 2021 (Per NFL[dot]com top 101) TY Hilton (Re-signed) - 33 Eric Fisher - 42 Xavier Rhodes - 53 Marlon Mack (Re-signed) - 79 Al-Quadin Muhammad (Re-signed) - 99 2022 (Per NFL[dot]com top 101) Stephon Gilmore - 12 2023 (Per NFL[dot]com top 101) Samson Ebukam - 58 Gardner Minshew - 95   2024 (Per NFL[dot]com top 101) Julian Blackmon (Re-signed) - 35 Kenny Moore (Re-signed) - 38 Grover Stewart (Re-signed) - 40   Regardless of how any of these signings actually worked out, it’s time to give the argument that top free agents won’t come here the old yeller treatment and bury it. It’s nonsense.
    • Because some are here to be right not support the Colts.
    • Huh?   Are you under the impression that a head coach — any head coach — approaches all 17 regular season games like a playoff game?   They don’t.      So I don’t care what Wash is doing with Daniels, they’re not the same player.  Daniels is far more experienced than AR, so how Wash uses JD is going to be different than how Steichen uses AR.     So my point is that Steichen can try to do both….   groom Richardson AND win games.  It doesn’t have to be one or the other.  It can be both.  Sorry we see this differently.
    • Because we have a GM who won’t really attempt to do business.    Ryan Grigson didn’t have a problem landing free agents.   Andre Johnson was a superstar when he came here. We didn’t know he was washed up until after he got here and he got out on the field.    Does the name “Frank Gore” ring a bell? At all? He’s only a hall of fame player, so maybe you’ve never heard of him.   Corey Redding signed here late in his career, and he helped get Pagano’s 3-4 off the ground.    Mike Adams came here and promptly made a pair of pro-bowls.    Gosder Cherilus was considered one of the best right tackles in the league when he signed here, despite how it turned out.    Ahmad Bradshaw came here before injuries derailed his career for good.    LaRon Landry was a heavily sought after free agent, and chose to come here to make the bank to buy his juice.    Erik Walden came here and far exceeded the deal he was on.    Art Jones had a lot of interest around the league when he signed here before injuries and getting hooked up with LaRon Landry’s juice dealer got in the way.   D’qwell Jackson signed here after being one of the league’s leading tacklers for the Browns and made a pro bowl that same year.    Hakeem Nicks signed here after starting a winning Super Bowl for the Giants and having a 1K+ yards and 10+ TD season. He had multiple 1K yard seasons under his belt on arrival.    What about trades? Vontae Davis came here in a trade. Glaze over it with the benefit of hindsight all you want, but Trent Richardson was 1 year removed from being the 3rd overall pick, and had put up 1K yards rushing as a rookie when he landed in town.     Hell, even Ballard has been able to land some high quality free agents when he’s actually been willing to make a deal. Philip Rivers and Stephon Gilmore didn’t wind up here because the league told them they had to be here.    The facts that these free agents all signed here aren’t untrue simply because you either don’t remember them, or just flat out don’t know them. Luckily someone writes these signings down somewhere for the sake of posterity, so we can look back on those official records and prove that they did in fact happen, despite the claims to the contrary.
