Sone of Steichen's decision making - if Frank or Chuck did it, they would be getting destroyed.  This limited offense with PJ Walker - you pin them back every time, especially if it's from 60.

Steichen's lucky he's still in a bit of a rookie honeymoon.

The call is not horrible. The execution on the other hand...

Also... why are you paying the biggest salary to a kicker if you are not going to use him in close games? This is nonsense.

None of those were Shane Steichen problems or "horrible calls"

Is Pittman playing? 0 targets? I’m not trying to be * but how do you have 0 targets on a team that has garbage receivers. I have no problem with Pittman going elsewhere in free agency.

That answer your question?

    • No we haven’t. We used Johnson last year anytime Buckner or Stewart was out
    • Generally agreed, but the point I'm trying to make is that I think interior OL/DL have more impact on the passing game than they get credit for. Particularly a great 3T, there's just no answer for that player. But yeah, we're talking about real game changers at those positions, not just stacking up multiple JAGs and saying 'we're solid at DT.'      I guess we'll never know. But to be clear, the Colts interviewed Martindale for HC in 2023, not DC in 2022.   And to my point, why would Chris 'We Run Cover 3 Zone' Ballard interview a defensive coach who runs a 3-4 as a potential HC? Why would he interview him twice? I can't imagine that Ballard thought Martindale would completely change his defensive philosophy, which is one of the reasons his candidacy never made sense to me in the first place. I guess you see it the other way, and I get that, especially in light of that quote. But since the job was HC and not DC, that could have been about something other than defensive philosophy.
    • Or, taking a developmental QB with a never-before-seen physical base was a risk the GM considered worth taking.  I wouldn't call that thinking desperate.    What seems apparent is they targeted AR, they expected him to drop to them, the only time they showed panic was when there was a trade-up during that draft, they were prepared for a multiyear growth plan. None of that seems desperate.   I can see how you'd think that but I doubt that's been the case here. The thing is they bet on a traits guy rather than a ready-to-start QB. I cannot knock it at all.
    • I expected the ups and downs with Richardson. The defense and play calling I did not.
