Dane Brugler released The Beast(2023 NFL Draft Guide) today

Recommended Posts

Here it is(you need subscription to the Athletic and IMO the draft guide on its own is worth the price, even though you are getting access to all of the Athletic content):

Here I will give you some things I think are notable...

Offensive Rankings:

- QB rankings - Bruce Young, CJ Stroud, Anthony Richardson, Will Levis(all with 1st round grade)... Hendon Hooker - 2nd round grade. No other QB with day 2 grade. Rest of the draftable QBs are: Jake Haener(4th), Aidan O'Connell(4th), Jaren Hall(4th-5th), Tanner McKee(5th), Clayton Tune(5th-6th), Stetson Bennett(6th), Dorian Thompson-Robinson(6th-7th), Max Duggan(6th-7th), Tyson Bagent(7th)

- RB rankings - Bijan Robinson(1st), Jahmyr Gibbs(1st-2nd) are the top 2, not surprising. Interesting that the rest of the top 5 is Zach Charbonnet, Devon Achane and Tyjae Spears...

- WR ranking - for as much as we are saying this WR class is not great, Dane Brugler has 16 of them rated as day 1 or day 2 potential picks. JSN is no. 1. Addison, Hyatt, Flowers, Johnston finish the top 5. He loves Tyler Scott(Colts reportedly have shown a lot of interest in him), ranked as no.7 WR(2nd round grade). Tank Dell ranked 15th best WR.

- TE ranking - Michael Mayer no. 1 TE(1st round grade), Dalton Kincaid(1st), Luke Musgrave, Darnell Washington(1st-2nd) and Tucker Kraft!!!(2nd) in top 5

- OT ranking - Paris Johnson, Broderick Jones have 1st round grades. Rest of top 5 - Darnell Wright(1st-2nd), Anton Harrison, Matthew Bergeron(2nd) are the rest in top 5. Other notables - Tyler Steen(Alabama) no. 7, Nick Saldiveri(Old Dominion) - 8th. Blake Freeland is pretty low - 13th.

- OGs - he ranks Skoronski as a guard... no. 1 guard(1st round grade), O'Cyrus TOrrence(1st-2nd), Steve Avila(2nd), Cody Mauch(2nd), Chandler Zavala(3d) are the other top 5 OGs.

- OCs - Joe Tippman(2nd), John Michael-Shcmitz(2nd-3d), Ricky Stromberg(4th), Luke Wypler(4th-5th), Alex Forsyth(5th) are the top 5 OCs. Seems like pretty underwhelming OC class...

Defensive rankings:

-EDGE rankings - strong class - 6 1st round grades, 17 players with day 1 or day 2 grade - Will Anderson, Tyree Wilson, Lukas Van Ness, Nolan Smith(1st), Myles Murphy, BJ Ojulari(1st-2nd). He has Yaya Diaby as a 3d rounder... I was hoping we can get him on day 3. Andre Carter is falling a lot in all the rankings I've seen, his testing seems to have cost him - 5th-6th round grade here(29th EDGE)

- DT rankings - Jalen Carter, Bryan Bresee (1st round grades), Calijah Kancey, Mazi Smith(1st-2nd round grades), Gervon Dexter Sr(2nd). Has Adebawore with a 2nd-3d round grade.

- LB rankings - Drew Sanders, Trenton Simpson(1st-2nd), Jack Campbell(2nd), Daiyan Henley(2nd-3d), Nick Herbig(3d). Dorian Williams is at no. 7  as a 3d-4th rounder.

- CB rankings - again - strong class, 16 ranked as day 1 or day 2 prospects - top 5 is Christian Gonzales, Devon Witherspoon, Joey Porter Jr(1st), Deonte Banks(1st-2nd), Emmanuel Forbes(1st-2nd)... Kylee Ringo is the 6th ranked prospect(1st-2nd rounder). Forum favorite Darius Rush is rated as the 9th best CB(2nd-3d rounder). Julius Brents(3d)

- S rankings - kind of weak class - top 5 - Brian Branch(1st), Antonio Johnson(2nd-3d), Quan Martin(3d), Ji'Ayir Brown(3d), Jordan Battle(3d)

Specialists:

- Kickers - Jake Moody (4th-5th), Chad Ryland(6th-7th)

- Punters - Bryce Baringer (5th-6th), Adam Korsak(6th-7th), Brad Robbins(7th)

- Long Snappers - Alex Ward(7th)

Rankings in the top 100...Notables:

- Bryce Young is rated not just as QB1... he's rated as the no. 1 prospect in the draft!!!

- Top 5 after Young - Will Anderson, Jalen Carter, CJ Stroud, Christian Gonzalez

- no. 10 Lukas Van Ness... seems like he's solidified as a potential top 10 pick now... a lot of new mocks and big boards have him in that range.

- Anthony Richardson no. 13, Will Levis no. 14. Seems like Brugler is sticking them together.

- WR1 JSN at no. 18.

- Mayer and Kincaid at 19 and 20.

- Cody Mauch at 45, Will McDonald at 46(kind of low for McDonald)

- 48 Tyler Scott - I think this is one of the highest spots I've seen him at.

- 49. Hendon Hooker

- 50. Anton Harrison - kind of low...

- 51. Tucker Kraft TE5, I think the highest I've seen him.

- 55. Gervon Dexter Sr DT5, the highest I've seen him.

- 72. Yaya Diaby - pretty high...

- 73 Tyjae Spears RB5 - pretty high

- 74 Zach Harrison - he's the type Ballard would like... I wonder if he's an option if he fell to our R3 pick...

- 97 Brenton Strange, TE8, highest I've seen him

If you like this and can get behind these rankings then Lamar makes the most sense for the Colts.  Take BPA at 4 or trade back.  If the guaranteed amount is too much for the Colts then you have to roll with a cheap rookie quarterback contract and hope you pick the right one.   Good luck to Ballard with that choice.

Oh wow, so you are saying, depending on preference....you would go one direction at QB......or......the other?
