Draft thoughts/strategy

Recommended Posts

As the draft looms I can’t help but think that the slide will definitely happen . But how far will they slide is the question. When it comes to AR-15 he looks the part he has a rocket launcher big ,strong ,fast . Although those are really great traits I ask myself how will he do with an nfl playbook and can you teach touch passing because he wasn’t very accurate at all. Then we go to Will Levis this guy could be the next Rob Johnson for the bills you young guys might not know who that is. He was chiseled marble great arm just not a great QB . But I find traits I like about Levis like his 4.0 GPA arm strength mobility. I also believe he’s the guy the colts have wanted this whole time . I started to think what if the colts gambled of course it would have to worth it . Arizona trades back with the Seahawks which is a smart move colts are definitely taking a qb Seahawks would take Ar-15 sit him behind geno for 2 years . Colts at 4 take Levis Arizona gets wil Anderson. That’s the way it should go it shouldn’t go any other way . But let’s say a colts QB needy team can convince the lions hey guys will Anderson is there he’s a generational talent you also have the 6 pick you can take jalen carter that makes your defense pretty dam scary . Oh ok colts what will it take to do this ? Well number #18 and your 2 seconds Is that asking a lot ? Will will Levis slide ? Here’s the thing I think he does I think teams will say colts are on the clock there taking Levis. Wait ? What! They traded out ?why what’s wrong with Levis what do they know ? We know people question Levis we know we want him well colts organization does . Will get some much needed depth . I really believe this will work . Thoughts?

I think IF the Lions would offer a trade, it would be #4 for #6 and #55, or even 2nd rd 2024. Especially if we are the onces calling them.

There's no need for them to have pick 4 AND 6.

Regarding your thoughts Levis sliding : As QB's get overdrafted almost every year, he will probably not make it to #18. Seahawks, Falcons, Raiders, Titans, Washington and even Pats or Lions themselves are all in the mix of drafting a qb.

I think the lions are good at QB. I can also see hooker jumping in the mix . I think a lot teams will say ok do I take the 4 th best qb or the first best De,Cb,lb,Dt. You have to question yourself what do the colts know and cause a slide. Last time we did something like this we got Q and Leonard, Brendan smith I’d definitely entertain it. Because if you really look the cards are not taking a qb lions would have two first I don’t think they take a qb raiders signed jimmy g they still could take one I don’t think they will Texans have 2 pick so there second one won’t be a qb the jets will have arod atl could definitely take a qb and that’s the team that worries me the worst I don’t think New England takes a qb eagles nope if we can get passed atl the slide will happen

I’m wondering’ if those wheeling and dealing Bears might want to trade back up (offering pick #9, #53, & #136) to draft a defensive lineman.  In the event Tennessee  or someone moved up to #3 and aced us out of Richardson (with Stroud and Young off the board too), I think I’d do something like this and select Hooker “too early”.  Bears would end up getting the first non-QB in the draft, while still netting a future 1 & 2, as well as DJ Moore…

I don't think so.

What makes you say that (that the Lions are not good at QB)?

Goff may be better than all the QBs in this draft. With a good team around him, Goff can lead his team to a Super Bowl.

I love what the Lions are doing. They traded an older QB for a younger QB and several draft picks. I wish my team had made that trade.

I don't think it happens but several publications show the Vikings trading up for Levis. I hope not, as we have only 6 draft picks. I do not want to give up significant assets for someone that is not a sure thing.

Goff was really weird last year. He played elite at home in Detroit, and played horrible on the road. Very lopsided splits there. So I honestly don't know how the Lions will handle him. I'm guessing they just keep him and hope he figures it out on the road.

Goff is not spectacular but he is okay. He appears a bit too reserved. I like the Philip Rivers and Andrew Lucks of the world who demonstrate leadership on the field and when interviewed before and after games.  Goff reminds me a little of Cousins but he is younger and seems more humble, which I like. He seems to be a stopgap for Detroit. If he does not work, they can move on from him. Goff has already gone to the Super Bowl with the Rams. Maybe he will go again.

Btw, as we approach real draft day, what would you like the Colts to do? Move up, down, stay where they are? QB or other player?

I'm generally ok with anything except for trading up to 3 for Levis. I prefer to stay at 4 and take who is available that we like. If the Texans take Will Anderson at 2 (which there is a small possibility of now), I'd like to trade up to 3 for whoever falls between Stroud and Young in that scenario. Other than that, I wouldn't mind trading down a few spots if we could get Levis at 7 or something if we could get a 1st in 2024.

I’d like them to move back and fill up some spots .
