I'm saying it doesn't make sense. Why stop playing after going to the playoffs, throwing for 4000 yards, with at the time the best oline in football and an ascending Taylor

I’ll try to answer your question….   Long post ahead…

I believe when the Colts signed Rivers in 20 they were the only team to show serious interest.   If there were others, they weren’t as strong.   Rivers was coming off his worst year.

So, Rivers comes in 2020, it’s the first year of Covid.  Very limited practice.   Frankly, very limited everything.   And Rivers went on to have one of his very best seasons.  A real bounce back year.

And what happened?

Ballard and Frank publicly say they asked Rivers to wait 2-4 weeks while they figure out what they want to do for ‘21.   The next day, Rivers announced his retirement.

I think PR was a little hurt and insulted.  He gave the Colts everything he had and everything the Colts wanted and the Colts asked him to wait patiently while they figure out if they could find a better quarterback.

Either Ballard and Frank knew how Rivers might react and didn’t care, or they miscalculated.   Either way, the Colts lost a very good quarterback.   I’m only glad Rivers has not held a grudge as he seems to be on good terms with the Colts.   Ballard said he called Rivers to ask about Steichen.

I think Rivers retired because he didn’t want to sit around and wait 8-10 weeks to find who, if any teams,  would be interested in him for 2021.    PR had already moved his family from so cal to Indiana.   I don’t think he wanted to do that yet one more time.   He had a great opportunity to coach his son’s team, and he took it.

Sorry for the long response.

Good read. I just don't like the idea that he simply retired to coach his kids

None of us know what a QB will be. Josh Allen wasn't Josh Allen right away. It takes time.

Agree they all could be Tribisky. Anderson could be Ferrell. Just seems less questions about Anderson. Most mocks he's consensus #1 at a position of need.

I've seen his motor questioned, but that's about it.

I have a hard time believing you know Rivers well enough to know what he was thinking let alone what he was doing.

Just saying

I can say the same thing

Well I believe him when he speaks and didn't think he was lying.  Can you say the same?

No. I don't. Too many people of said other factors played into that. Regardless, this conversation has become trivial now.
