Colts sign QB Gardner Minshew

I love the Minshew signing. He’s one of the Better backups in the league and frankly I don’t know how he was so cheap.

Drew Lock got $4M. Sam Darnold got $4.5. Jacoby Brissett got $10M. Heinecke got up to $10M a year. Andy Dalton got up to $5.5M a year.  James’s Winston got up to $8M.

I figured Minshew was going to go in that $5M-$8M range for elite backups.

getting for $3.5M as both a bridge and a just solid backup is a great get and even better value.

Watching Foles play was so bad that I wanted Sam back in which was also bad haha

Exactly season started and I was so excited for Matty ice but that ship sailed so quickly.

Then thought Foles superbowl winner event hough I hated his signing were as bad.

Sam I did not expect much young rookie who had mentored as Jacob Eason or Matty Ice or Nick Foles haha did his best.

Ive always liked Minshew.  I liked him in college at Washington State.  He’s a poor man’s Baker Mayfield.   Similar size, similar big personality.   He’s a little brash, and a little cocky.  But, like Baker, teammates reportedly love him.   He’s a high floor but lower ceiling guy.   He’s viewed as similar to Mayfield, but without as much pure talent.

I’m sure he will have moments where we all say… “That’s why he’s not a full time QB1”. But he will also have moments where we all think “if only he had more moments like this.”

I think he’s a very good QB2.   Glad we signed him.   The right guy in the right situation.

Yeah I was so wrong about Matty Ice, I thought he would be good. That one fooled me lmao . It wasn't really just him though, Taylor being injured all year and our Line playing like garbage didn't help.

I disagree. I think Sam can play just as well. He got thrown into the fire last year behind a bad OL. Nearly won the Washington game --- Pittman dropped a pass that would/could have put us in field goal position to win; and he should have won the Houston game...

I know. no one agrees. But I really think Ehlinger can play...

I don’t completely disagree. Out O line is/was a hot plate of overpaid garbage. Sam didn’t do any worse than Matt Ryan. Should have gotten a longer look but our coach/owner were probably too focused on tanking to stick with Sam.

Matt Ryan was really the only QB that produced big yardage and he is the only one that won a game, he won the 4 games we won as starter + a tie. Sam and Foles reminded me of watching Painter play and Matt was bad.

I read somewhere he can get incentives?

Does that mean he is slated to start? Can someone who knows more explain that please.

This is a good signing, regardless of who we choose at #4.  If it's a QB, then Minshew either provides the bridge or is the main backup.  If it's Anderson, then Minshew starts for a rebuilding team with no playoff pretensions.  Either way, this is a good move.

agreed. really like how you worded that.

He will be fine as long as he shaves the beard, and goes total porn stache like we all remember him in Jville.

Seriously, I like this signing. I don't expect him to win many games for us, but I also don't think he will be the reason we lose many either. Good Qb to have when you are drafting one.

He won't be the starter IMO but could start a few games if need be. Whoever we draft will start IMO or if we get Lamar he will start. Regardless, Minshew is a lot better than Sam and washed up Foles.

agreed, the only QB probably better than Minshew from our carousel was Rivers

Yes i think Minshew is better than Wentz, and Brisket.

If he's the starter, probably something like that would be my best guess. ( I thought Ryan would would lead us to at least a wild card game though, so take my opinion with more than a grain of salt)

I really hope whoever we draft is starting sooner than later.

Meh I can’t feel all the great about it. Ballard has sucked just about every QB move he’s done with the Colts. His track record has got to be one of the worst when it comes to the QB position.

Have you met every Browns GM ever?

I agree, JB I always liked but as a backup, sometimes starter. Wentz IMO was really good before his injury, after his injury he was MEH. That is why I hated it when we signed him in 2021. Minshew can actually legit start and win, eventhough I have my doubts he can ever be a top 10 QB in the league. He is much better than what he had though, Matty was over the hill, Foles looked like Painter, and Sam is 3rd string material.

Although to be fair, Briaket wa a good fit the QB sneak 9 times out of 10.

Lol

Matt had better numbers, which is to be expected, but I would like to have seen more Sam.

Sam was supposed to finish the season, and then we would know if he is truly good or truly bad.  Jeff Saturday ruined that, and might have ruined Sam’s career in doing that.  The season was already a lost cause. Sam should have had his chance.

least favorite thing about Saturday was him playing Ryan as many snaps as he did.
