Anyone have a guess when they move away from Ryan?   What is the date  17th to save the money?

17th is the date. That's when 10M roster bonus is due and that's when an additional about 7.2M of salary for 2023 is guaranteed. So this makes up 17.2M we can save if we cut him or trade him before the 17th...

Sometimes I wonder what is there to decide with Ryan at this point? He won't take a pay cut to be a backup. He won't retire. What are they truly waiting for?

Hate to see Okereke sign elsewhere. Leonard seems like one injury away from retirement.:(

It is what it is. Too much money into Leonard put us in this position. Unless you are the captain of the D and play MLB, you rarely see that kind of money thrown around to weakside LBs. At this point, we just hope Leonard can play all games of the season without any major setbacks.

I think it’s to see how the QB market fairs the first day of FA or so. Maybe a team gets desperate enough to come calling. Never know. There’s really no point in releasing him now as you gain nothing

Desperate team making them an offer they can't refuse?

Unfortunately we had too many prime time games to show off Matt Ryan's suckage, that a deal for him, IF it happens, will happen only AFTER he is released.

@stitchesThanks for creating this thread. I thought about creating one around 15 mins ago and got sidetracked. I'm just hoping we get a couple players today. I don't want to fall behind the 8-ball before FA officially starts when a lot of the valuable players are signed in theory today.

You think Ballard is going to sign multiple guys on day 1 of tampering? League minimum deals like Tyquans don’t count either

I know, makes you wonder what is going on but I am pretty sure we are getting ready to cut him. Matt is such a pro's pro that we may wait until the last second. One thing about being a GM I would hate is cutting someone, especially a player that was once great.

If Peyton Manning can be released, anyone can be cut.

Yeah, we know we’ll have to cut him.  He’s just not going to retire and have to pay back some of his signing bonus.  If there’s no advantage to cutting him now rather than later, maybe he’s just additional obfuscation for our qb situation.  Never want everyone to know your plans, or they’ll tell Frank Reich…

I'm hoping to get Issac Seumalo on day 1 of tampering at least. If we don't, he'll be gone. He has the connection with Steichen from the Eagles and he fills a need at RG.

No difference.    The deadline is the 17th

Thanks. I hope Ballard releases him before FA then, otherwise we'll be putting ourselves at a disadvantage with significantly less cap space available. I don't see the point in keeping him until the 17th unless you believe those two days could be the difference between cutting him or him retiring.

Yeah. I can't figure out why they are waiting.    No way they will be able to trade him I don't think

Pretty sure they can cut him after June 1 too and save 13 million of that 17 they would have saved by Friday too

There are some rumors the 49ers might be interested in him but probably once he gets cut...

    • And those are about the best signings the Colts have done under Ballard in 8 years.    Has Ballard even spent over $10+m once in a FA? Gilmore maybe? That’s once. In going on 8 years.    Noone does what Ballard does and he hasn’t had success doing it, so noone’s trying to replicate it.
    • For your consideration….   Nobody knew who Ebukam was when the Colts signed him week 2 last year.   And nobody knew who Denico Autry was when the Colts signed him in week 2.   “Who?” Was the most popular comment both times.  They turned out really well.      Im not sayin Ballard is going to do it again this year, it hasn’t happened every year, all I’m saying it’s happened from time to time so it’s still possible that CB will find a keeper that people here will like.
    • Could he do it?  Sure, but it is much tougher for him than most owners in the NFL.  The Colts just layed out $200 million this free agency.  I imagine over half in guaranteed money.  That’s a lot for Jim.
    • With all that said...
    • Spending doesn't mean you will win. You still need to spend smart and you still need to draft well and overall make good decisions.    Not spending limits you in your roster construction. I don't know why it's so hard for people to understand. The best teams in the league use ALL available avenues for improving their team. They do not limit themselves artificially with what's possible to achieve. They also concentrate resources into windows of contention. This means at any given time, if you are not spending you are competing against teams that are pouring resources into trying to win it RIGHT NOW. You will just always be at disadvantage because while 1 specific team will need to reload and take their lumps for spending too much in short period of time once in a while, the league as a whole will always have at least a few teams that are in that high spending mode chasing a window for contention.    Now... is it possible you strike gold and beat those teams while relying almost exclusively on the draft? It's possible. If you string together a few insane draft classes. But it's not very likely...
