Jmv said he heard Saturday was told a couple weeks ago he was not getting the job. Keefer confirmed it. JMV also said he heard Saturday did not want the job with Ballard as GM. Didn’t feel it would be in his best Interest.

Saturday, imo, would love to get the HC gig.....even if Scooby Do were the GM.

The salary of a HC would be in his best interest. :funny:

I don’t remember a coaching search taking this long in recent memory. Another unprecedented Colts move which seems to be their MO lately. As someone else said earlier, zig’ing when everyone else is Zag’ing.

I also wonder about the ripple effects from this extended search will be.

On February 6 2022, the Dolphins hired Mike McDaniel as HC. Literally one year ago today...

Since then, the NFL rules changed in a way that requires teams to slow down the hiring process. Not only is the Colts coaching search not unprecedented in length, it's completely reasonable given the circumstances. Especially if the coach they hire isn't available until after the Super Bowl.

If true, Ballard finally did something good. Their interviews must have been fun.

Didn't Keefer just list Saturday as a finalist?

He must have just heard it today.

He has said he doesn’t believe Saturday is in the mix but with Irsay involved he can’t completely rule it out. The thing is colts are not coming out and saying who they eliminated so right now there is still seven we know of.

Wow… got a clip? Been trying to find one but I suck at new social media things

And who exactly is going to throw to him? I doubt Dvante is on board with this. I smell fish.

So if they don’t hire Saturday, will Kroger take their tin foil back?

You are the same age as I am. I didn't become a Colts fan till 1973 when they drafted Bert Jones. I had been following LSU because I had a family member that went there.

I believe Bert would’ve been an All NFL Great had injuries not done him in.

@KBowen1070

Leader or offense?

...When you examine the Colts reported second interview candidates over the past few weeks, you had 2 of the 8 candidates with an offensive background—Brian Callahan and Shane Steichen.

Several of the candidates were on that list because of their strong reputations as leaders, including Raheem Morris (great connector), Wink Martindale (think Bruce Arians), Aaron Glenn (blunt, aggressive) and Rich Bisaccia (lauded for two-decade long leadership).

That staunch belief in finding a ‘leader’ first, before a preference on the side of the ball, is something Irsay and Chris Ballard both align with.

Remember, the love for Jeff Saturday’s accountability has always been there from Irsay and Ballard.

Does that mean we should be putting more stock into some of those other defensive/special teams coaches, even though there’s a clear shift in how the NFL’s best teams are led?

Obviously, the goal would be to find a happy medium between bright offensive mind and strong leader...

They could just be seeing if the guy who bet 1.4 million on the Chargers at halftime of that WC game has anything left in his savings. :dunno:

I saw that. Just wondering if there's a sportsbook who will take a bet on those odds...

Remember the line of thinking from a few months ago - Saturday was conducting a spy operation, would report to Irsay and then take over as GM, or so many hoped?  Oh yeah.  lol

If Jeff's spy work is as good as his coaching, he probably couldn't find Ballard's house.

That would be a major oof move IMO.  A long time defensive based head coach without prior HC experience taking over the team with a likely non-surefire rookie QB.  I just don’t see it

It really won’t affect the QB unless they don’t hire the right QB coaches and OCs. That’s what happened to Luck. The OC’s he had before Reich got there were all awful.

It worked out great for McDermott when Buffalo hired him and they drafted Allen.  He brought in Daboll to be the OC and it worked out great.  Daboll becomes HC of the Giants this year and Allen regressed.  A defensive HC can work with a new young quarterback.  Getting the OC and a good quarterback coach right is the key.
