I bet if it’s Steichan his agent wants to keep it under wraps too. Hopefully things are quiet because things are getting finalized.

I think Irsay is dragging his feet on purpose so that, eventually ,the candidates will just throw in the towel and back out. Well almost all of them will...there is one that will be in it till the bitter end.

Just trying to wear us out?

It might work.  It seems the fan base burned through all its Saturday outrage about 10 days ago.  If he's hired, there might not be anything left.

Schefter on NFL Live just mentioned  - colts have spoken to about 7 or 8 different candidates for 2nd job interview and Shane Steichen has made an impression there.

Not much info but figured it was worth sharing.

Steichen is my fav candidate.

lol.

it seems, after each and every candidates 2nd interview, the tweets are "they really made a good impression"

I don’t remember a coaching search taking this long in recent memory. Another unprecedented Colts move which seems to be their MO lately. As someone else said earlier, zig’ing when everyone else is Zag’ing.

I also wonder about the ripple effects from this extended search will be.

If AZ hires their HC and staff  first and there are no major "name" coordinators left to hire the ripple effect will be very small across the league.  For us...well, that would be a different discussion.  haha

Jmv said he heard Saturday was told a couple weeks ago he was not getting the job. Keefer confirmed it. JMV also said he heard Saturday did not want the job with Ballard as GM. Didn’t feel it would be in his best Interest.

This is the best news report of the day.

Wow. Saturday wanted the job AND to kick Ballard to the curb!

It’s crazy because the media has said they had great interviews with Morris, Steichen, Wink, and Glenn. I never heard much about Callahan.

Callahan didn't make the final cut in Arizona either. Of course, this is all speculation.  Callahan could be on a plane to Indy right now for all in know.:D

Zak keefer said up to around 4 candidates have said they want to keep Bradley. Hopefully that is not the only reason someone is picked.

I imagine most of them would to get the job.

This is a story from when Martindale got his first DC job.

Quote

Don Martindale isn't a "3-4 specialist,"

Martindale's background, as Warren Sapp correctly notes in the NFLN piece referenced above, was as a coordinator for 4-3 defenses, which are one-gap, penetrating schemes.

Martindale adapted to a 3-4 and could just as easily bring some of his attacking ideas back to a 4-3, I'm guessing.

That should put an end to the Saturday drama.

Would the Eagles give him a big raise to stay?  The Cowboys did it with Quinn.

I don't know. From what I have gathered they like him there. And why wouldn't they? He helped Hurts become a franchise QB and MVP candidate. The Eagles have one the best offenses in the NFL. And they are the favorites to win the SB. What's not to like?

Right now all of the talk is about the SB.  Colts coaching searches is a very secondary topic.

I hope its not Martindale. Of the "finalists" as we know it, he is the pick I would be most disappointed in.

You mean not wanting a job where the GM didn’t want you is not in his best interest?  Insert shocked face here.

If Steichen ends up being the guy, I do wonder if that makes Anthony Richardson more of an option in the 2023 draft after a trade down to acquire more picks. Would be a very Balllard like thing to do if Steichen could make him into a top QB the way he did with Hurts.

I'm presently not in favor of this scenario (the Richardson part).

There a lot of mobile QB’s that could still fit that same bill. Hurts was a far better passer than Richardson is.

Read an interesting trade proposal today.  We swap 1st and 2nd rd picks with the Raiders in return for D. Adams.
