I guess I expect to make the playoffs every year, whether it's Manning, Luck, or one of the band-aid QBs the last few years we've signed or traded for. The teams have almost always been good enough to make the playoffs. We've either missed them way too much, or the times we've made them, it's been underwhelming. The only big highlight with hope was 2014 when we faced the Pats, thinking we had a shot at the SB, and we lost terribly.

To me, yes, history matters, but making the AFC 9 years ago with a QB we don't have anymore and getting blown out doesn't mean a lot to me. We also haven't won the division since 2014, and 0 times since Ballard has been the GM. Right now, we are the most accomplished team history-wise in the division, but that's mostly because the division is relatively new team-wise.

At least there's real hope though with the 4th pick. I hope Ballard or whomever the GM is gets the QB he wants without giving up any (or much) draft capital.

I get what you are saying. I seriously doubt there is anyone in here more disappointed than me on how this 2022 went down. It has had me so angry and disappointed that I am at a loss for words. Hopefully we draft that right QB and get the right coach in here and things change.

ETN had over 1K yards this year. No, we did not run very well against the Titans highly rated run defense, but we have had decent success running all year.

Early in the season, run - pass ratio was healthy, but over the year they had passed much more, especially after trading Robinson.

I feel that Pederson shies away from run game when going gets tough, and doesn't establish run always. I say that because that would be the game scenario during playoffs, and I'm not really optimistic he'll get the game plan right.

Anyway, I may be wrong, Jaguars got a relatively easier start in the playoffs this week.

Well, Pederson has won a super bowl and he has taken this Jaguars team from 3 wins to 9, along with a division title. The nine wins were not all over puff ball teams either. They beat the Ravens, the Chargers, the Titans twice, the Jets, and the Cowboys. I am pretty sure he knows what he is doing.

I didn't say he doesn't know what he's doing. But, going past Chiefs or Bengals or Bills in the AFC? That's when his game planning would need to be top notch.

And, IMO, without utilizing run game very well, that task would be tough on Lawrence, which is what i meant.

I don't think I underestimated the abilities of Pederson or Lawrence but i meant utilizing the run game more and consistently throughout the game against tougher opponents even if the game script goes bad is where the coach could improve and make the offense much more efficient and unbeatable in playoff run.

Jaguars are in playoffs, with desire to win the Super Bowl, if everything goes well. Discussing what can be improved to achieve that shouldn't be taken as a disdainful comment on anyone.

I did not view your comments as disdainful, I simply do not agree with them.  The running game has been effectively used all year. The Titan's game was not indicative of that, but I give credit to the Titan's for an effective game plan to limit us. Again, you don't have a back gain a thousand yards (who did not even start for the first three games) if your running game is not being used.

Joke? What joke is that? This team has proven they are good and getting better. I think it is very possible for us to beat the Chiefs. We played them tough the first time this year and we are better than we were in game 3. With TL at QB, anything is possible.

I am sure the Chiefs game will be a close one and the last time you guys played them, Cisco went head hunting and put JuJu out with a concussion to miss games. I expect JuJu to have a good game this time around.

This could be a trap game for the Chiefs.  The lack of defense for the Chiefs could very well catch up to them. Mahomes can make anyone look silly if he is on a groove. The Jags defense will be their key.

No, it won't be. Andy Reid personally knows Doug Pederson, Pederson was with him during their time when Reid was HC of Eagles. He knows how well Pederson can scheme things and no one is going to take a team coming off a 27 point comeback in the playoffs lightly, I can guarantee it.

Plus, the Chiefs are the very first divisional round game where they won't know the outcome of the other games to add any kind of pressure on them. The Mahomes-Reid combo is also undefeated in divisional rounds so far, 4 years and counting (2 of those as the No.2 seed, 2 of those as the No.1 seed), including that 13 second FG tying game/OT win vs the Bills last year. I expect the Chiefs to be ready. Chiefs have played all these 3 potential teams in the regular season - Jaguars, Bills and Bengals.

I'm looking forward to this game; hope it's a close one.

Trevor Lawrence can't throw interceptions like in the last game. KC isn't the type to melt down like the Chargers did. The Chiefs have been known to sometimes become passive in the second half when they have a lead, but they won't make that mistake after noticing what Jacksonville is capable of doing.

While I totally appreciate the thread, in the playground when you played king on the mountain...when the "King" was knocked down the new person standing was declared the King until he was knocked down. Sure people view the previous King as a strong competitor and the one most likely to knock the current king down....but that person is no longer the King.

The Jags are the current kings of the south. One of the other teams can very easily take it next year...but no one cares what anyone did 10 years ago. Hell, people barely care what happened the previous year.

When the Jags win 9 division titles they will be king.

We haven't won the division in 8 years, while the Jags have won it twice in that time. Our 9 division titles means absolutely nothing today when it was a decade ago. We're the only team in the division that has no reason to call themselves the kings of the south.

You have fun being the kings of the south a million years ago. I'll take being the current king over living in the past.

Is being 1 game over 500 in a weak division really something to brag about?

I was talking a little trash talk. Don't take it personal.

Speaking a little trash.

No sense of humor I see.

    • Right. But we also are expected to draft a corner, So the fact that DeJean can play either position, makes me think Ballard could have his eye on him.
    • As a Ballard type player, he seems to fit the bill.  Big 10. Excels at zone coverage. Elite athlete. Special Teams standout, Good tackler. etc. Colts may be able to trade back, and still land DeJean   Considered one of the Safest picks. Seven 2024 NFL Draft Prospects Who Are Safest Bets to Succeed at Next Level https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10113875-7-2024-nfl-draft-prospects-who-are-safest-bets-to-succeed-at-next-level   DB Cooper DeJean, Iowa   A fractured fibula during a November practice tempered any excitement regarding Cooper DeJean's draft status. So he's not been in the same conversations as the class' top defensive backs, specifically Toledo's Quinyon Mitchell and Alabama's Terrion Arnold. DeJean's profile projects just as well or better than the aforementioned cornerbacks.   Three specific attributes set DeJean's floor higher than anyone else among the back end.   First, the reigning Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year presents the positional flexibility and traits to start at cornerback or safety at the professional level, with B/R's Cory Giddings highlighting his coverage skills:   "DeJean excels in zone coverage, but he's versatile enough to play man as well. He shows a smooth backpedal and the ability to keep his leverage and quick footwork with few wasted steps. Although he transitions well, there are times where DeJean hops into his breaks; allowing a step of separation.   "When in zone, DeJean does a great job of reading and reacting to the quarterback's eyes. Pairing that skill set with his route recognition, he often puts himself in good position with leverage and positioning.   "While working downfield, DeJean has the strength necessary to hand-fight with tight ends and bigger receivers, as well as the speed necessary to carry twitchier receivers downfield. He also does a very good job of locating the ball and playing through the catch point."   Second, the high school track standout is an elite athlete who captured Iowa state titles in the long jump and 100-meter dash. Many expected him to blow the doors off Lucas Oil Stadium. Unfortunately, he wasn't ready to test in Indianapolis after being cleared a few weeks earlier.   "His acceleration is incredibly fluid and super powerful," NFL combine trainer Jordan Luallen told The Athletic's Bruce Feldman last summer. "He's the best athlete I've seen in person, pound for pound."   Finally, DeJean adds significant value as an elite collegiate returner. Big Ten coaches also awarded him Return Specialist of the Year this past season. DeJean averaged 13.1 yards per punt return over the last two seasons. A top-notch contributor anywhere along the defensive backfield and on special teams will provide excellent value in the NFL.   Potential Landing Spots: Indianapolis Colts, Philadelphia Eagles
    • He could, but I think he's way more athletic than people give him credit for and projects way better as CB. Definitely could be a good safety, but I think if we drafted him, he fits well as a boundary corner for us.
    • I think we need to sign a vet, but Jackson isn't it. Age and his dirty playstyle are non-starters for me.   JuJu definitely flashed pretty well in the limited games we saw him in. If he's healthy, I think he'll be a solid CB for us.   He dominated every WR at the Senior Bowl, specifically in drills that heavily skew towards WRs, often using techniques he was just really learning in the pro-bowl practices (mainly press man techniques). He dominated in the MAC and dominated at Senior Bowl practices, and with his athletic traits, he projects very well to the NFL. I see him being a dominant CB in the near future. I don't necessarily want to take a CB at 15, but I wouldn't be mad if we took Mitchell.
    • There are quite a few articles on the internet that say he may transition to safety in the NFL. Interesting reads
