This Week In Buffalo 6 Feet Of Snow??

For those that remember the blizzard of 1978 here in Indy it was something you never forget.  All I could see of my car was 3 or 4 inches of the antenna sticking up out of the snow drift. At that time we lived in Woodruff Place so visual wise it was beautiful. Something like a X-mas card scene. Something so beautiful can be so deadly.

We used to have to regularly shovel our roofs off here in Utah (Salt Lake City area) but that’s all but a thing of the past…our snow is no where near what it was 25+ years ago. It was a yearly thing…now we only get severe storms with 1-2 feet maybe every 3-4 years it feels like.

Very familiar with the Salt Lake area. I ran into a storm south of there that there are no words to describe. It looked like I was driving into something like either the twilight zone or a time warp. I had never seen hail stones like I seen that day.

They might be moving the game to Detroit. Which means bills will play back to back games in Detroit. I can’t believe they don’t want to build a indoor stadium in Buffalo.

I hope they never do.  Outside stadiums are much better.   I respect the Bills fans for going to the game no matter what.

Compared to Lucas Oil Stadium, the pre-sale tickets on Ticketmaster for Bills vs Browns are cheaper, if you are a fan of either team.

Heard the Bills are trying to get out today before the next round of storms.

So I guess the airport is opened back up but getting players from their homes to the airport is a different story.

The news is saying the weight of this 5-6 foot snow job results in 25-50 tons of weight on house roofs! Years ago I was in Buffalo on business and while waiting at a vendor for some final paperwork the receptionist had this to say to me as I waited in the reception area. She knew I was from Houston so she said. "How do you people live down there? Do you wake up and drive to work only to overheat and break down on the freeways?"

It has been decades since then but I have never forgotten her because she thought people who lived in Houston were nuts while I am thinking the same thing about people living in Buffalo. Different strokes for different folks!

It’s more about they are just trying to keep the emergency services running in that city without having to use resources that would be needed to get people to the stadium and make it playable.

Yeah I heard parts of Buffalo already has 60 inches of snow and is expecting up to 30 more by Monday.

You know I was just joking

6 feet of snow.   No one is moving.   People in that region will die because of it.   No ambulances,  no law enforcement.   Hospitals staff will be stuck.

Pretty funny stuff I guess

Do you follow and read every post I make???

You know I was joking......and I'm not giving you any picks so don't try and trick me for them like some challenge for me haha....because of you I'm not putting out my picks and others that valued them are deprived. haha

Seems like these resources could be better used and they should just change the date of the game.

So this is what city taxes pay for?? Paying officers to get players to a freaking game ??? I mean am I the only one who has a real issue with this ???

There has been some funny videos on Twitter from players IG where fans helped bills players dig out. But yeah using police resources seems very odd when that should be used for other things. They did make it to Detroit.  If they couldn’t get a charter flight earlier in week should of just chargers busses.

The whole region was probably shut down because of feets of snow, where people couldn't travel outside and most of the people are bunkered in their home. I'm not sure if crime rate would be high at that point, much lower than normal day. Officers would be mostly needed for someone calling for help for an emergency, rescue, travel urgency, etc., for which there would be officers, fire rescuers, first responders, emergency helpers, highway workers would be on duty to clear the highways and responding to emergencies.

On the outside, it might look like a luxurious spend of resources to a football team, but I guess the city and sheriff office would manage accordingly. Responding to players' need who need to travel also becomes an emergency at this point.

Now, if there are reports that people were dying because officers were escorting players on priority, that would be messed up, but I'm sure the officers and their management would like to cater to the county and their people in need as much as everyone wants them to be during these times.

It’s an emergency to get these players to an airplane for a football game ???

Police Force could be doing something useful. Paperwork…following up on various more important things. Welfare checks for elderly etc…

I'm sure those issues are not ignored. A lot of their population is well prepared for very adverse weather. Lots of 4 wheelers and snowmobiles. They also have a lot of heavy equipment to move snow.  The major problem is finding a place to pile up the snow.

I have never seen snow like this.  When I lived in Utah there was one Thanksgiving weekend where there headline in the papers was "100 inches in 100 hours" but that in the mountains at 8000 to 11000 feet on the ski resorts. It snowed in town but not like that.

And of course the "blizzard of '78" in Indy.  But we had about 18", not 6 feet.

I was 7 years old when that happened. I loved it as a kid lmao . If we were predicted to get 3 feet of snow now, I would load up on frozen pizza's, frozen wings, plenty of Gatorade, and plenty of beer and just watch movies all week laying around. It would take at least 4 days to clear that stuff out of here if we got 3 feet. I could not imagine 6 feet.

When I lived there I was a little intimidated to be on the roads with the snow plows.  Those guys don't mess around!

    • Of course the speed is real unique in terms of him always being a top level separator. What I also like for him to be such a big dude is his feet. He's actually pretty nimble after the catch in small spaces.  I thought he just played on the outside but I've seen LSU play him from the inside as well. Also see them throw him quick hitter, screen type passes that he makes extra yards out of. I think he has very good hands and he is good with his routes. I didn't dwell much on attacking the football because that can be taught if it's an issue. I've seen some say he doesn't always go all out every time but no prospect is perfect in college. If I had things to fix I don't see big holes in his game. Just few things I like but not exhaustive
    • What do you mean back with a bang?  PFF rated Hooker 77.3 and Blackmon 68.3 in 2023.   Not a huge difference for a pick 15 and a pick 78? who had "injuries limiting their once all pro careers".  LOL.  But they did not play exactly the same roles.  Hooker was ranked poorly in terms of most stats, while Blackmon pretty average.   Example: Hooker was targeted only 10 times while allowing 8 receptions (ranked 90th).  Blackmon was targeted 44 times allowing 31 receptions (ranked 18th)  There are nuances with the stats though.   DeJean at 22 or later plus a 3rd round pick would give us probably a better all around FS/SS than either while picking up another player from a trade down.  Not that I'm advocating it.  Just one plausible event in a sea of fantasy drafting.   Brian Thomas or Chop Robinson at 22 would be nice too, IMO. Or even a RT.
    • Maybe his mannerisms, speech, and occasional (apparent) emotional public interjections (Saturday, comments about Daniel Snyder, etc.) play a part in public perception.   A truly recovering addict would admit his contribution to public perception and would not lay it off onto bigots, as he is indirectly doing.   He's probably not truly recovered and I would take anything he says about his issue as being a flat out lie until proven otherwise.
    • What do you like most about him? Personally, I liked him less the more I watched film. I see his comp as if DK Metcalf didn't attack the ball. I think he'll be good, but highly limited coming out. I'd like to know if I need to go back and reevaluate.
    • I agree thomas is one of of my favorites  along with Worthy for speed reasons.
