Wow. Mac Jones just got benched for Zappe.

Did Jones get reinjued  or was he benched? Wow

He got benched because Belichick knew he was coming off an ankle injury. He wasn't making the right reads probably and Belichick saw enough on 2 drives that he pulled him for Zappe. Eberflus called a good D vs Mac Jones last year and I knew this was not going to be easy and I am sure Belichick knew it too. Belichick doesn't mess around and is not loyal to a fault like Frank Reich is. The bigger thing I notice is the Patriots' D not good against mobile QBs this year. Belichick would have eaten Matt Ryan's lunch. They shut Falcons down 0-27 last year, with a pick six, I remember that very very well. 

 

Justin Fields obviously has put in some work between the TNF game vs Commanders and this MNF game, looks fresh and the offense is being run differently. Let us see what adjustments Belichick makes in the second half.

Fields is going to be good if they give him a oline and talent. Wonder if Jones gets traded before next week.

After seeing Fields play the Patriots, Sam E, if he is as good as they say, might give us a good shot at beating them.

He will wait for Mac Jones to heal and get a better OC. They can't play from behind, just like the Colts. If it is a close game, then they can lean on Mac Jones or Zappe to control clock and have their run game be a factor. Now, the Dolphins and Jets have legitimate shots to get a wild card spot then with games against the Patriots still to go (2 for Jets, 1 for Dolphins).

I've heard theories about Belichick retiring. Nothing official, just rumors. The Patriots are in last place in the AFC East, there might be QB competition and Belichick has nothing more to prove. 

 

Monday was not the same Bears team that played the Commanders last week. I'm surprised that the coaches didn't call the same plays in the beginning: the ones that showed Fields' skill set. Where have they been all year?
