Been around reading and not posting.  But Come on! This D is gonna be incredible!

 

This Colts D will be number one this year before the playoffs!!!!!

 

New DC learning his guys with some true vets that have done it on the team that are giving input!

 

It takes a while to gel folks.   Same with the Oline.   How long did it take last yr for the Oline?    Yea yea yea coaching.   Give it #in break. No one is getting fired 

 

Colts D held the Chiefs to 17 points    They were averaging 35ppg.   AND their scores came of of Colts mistakes.  This D is for real!!!!!

 

This team is NOT far off.

Look at the slow start the Patriots had yr after yr and still won the SB.

 

Sept is for adjustments.  October is when it starts to come in to perspective.  And Nov puts us in the playoffs with a run at the trophy!!!!!!!!!!!

didnt look at it that way just saw that we didnt get a lot of sacks but we did have mahomes running

I’m not sure you and I are watching the same defense.   Through 3 games the Colts have played 12 quarters and one full 10 minutes overtime.  
 

IMO, the Colts defense has looked good for 5 quarters and the OT.    I’d say the 4th Q of the Houston game plus the KC game. But the defense was unimpressive for 3 quarters of the Houston game and all 4 quarters of the JVille game.   So that’s 7 bad quarters versus 5 plus good quarters.   That’s hardly coming attractions for a #1 defense. 
 

Compounding your argument our pass rush is a long way from being a top 10 rush to be feared or respected.   They will likely get better this year but enough to help make this the number one overall defense?   Right now this feels like you’re watching our games through Blue tinted glasses.

Yeah basically what NewColtsFan said above. There has unfortunately been more bad than good so far. 

The good has been really good, but the bad has been awful and painful to watch bad. I'm not writing them off, but by no stretch am I anywhere near ready to crown them after a good performance against the Chiefs.

The only part I will agree with you on is the fact that the run D has been phenominal (and is the number 1 rush def on YPC). If the passing D can just become a bit more consistent and float around the middle of the pack (somewhere from 10 - 15th) then this D is legit, but the secondary has been very suspect outside of Gilmore and Rodgers on the few snaps he has had so far this year.

I like the optimism! 

Agree to a degree, people did not realize that ofense not playing gives the D too much time on the field, at the moment ofense start clicking, defense answered.

 

I'm waaaay more worried about Ofense right now, dont know about #1, but this D can get us a top 10-12 unit for sure. 

 

The only thing really bothering me right now is us taking Grover out on passing 3rd downs, the guy is simply unstopabble 1n1 this year, let the big man rush!

We have a solid run D.  That’s expected with all the money in the 1T and 3T and running C3 with a SAM.  Pass rush is no good right now.  Secondary has been OK.

 

if there was even marginal improvement in the pass rush, we’d be a decent Defense.

Our defense has a chance to be legit if 1. Leonard comes back strong and 2. We continue to get pass rush with our dline.

The roller coaster of emotions week to week is hilarious. 

 

I still need to see a consistent pass rush and a resurgence of Kenny Moore before I consider this defense a top 10 unit much less #1.

I loved the Colts taking advantage of the Chiefs mistakes and stealing that game, but we still have a long way to go. The Chiefs averaged 5.3 yards per play while the Colts averaged 3.8. I agree with those who hope for the Colts to develop into being among the top third of the defenses in the league, but can't see us getting anywhere close to being the best.

Well you could say this defense is elite vs the run because they're top of the league, surrendering only 2.6 yards per rush.

 

Unfortunately they are the definition of average in scoring allowed, which is the most important metric for a defense.  Currently 15th at 20.3 points per game allowed.

 

Which means the secondary has not been good, and that holds up with a quick look at passer rating against.  We are allowing 99.0 over the first few games, which is 24th and soundly bottom third.  Generally speaking a good defense is going to make life hard on the QB.  That is of crucial importance in today's league.

 

But it's early and they played a great game vs KC.  So there is hope.

Starting on the road 2 games isn’t ideal early in the year with a new qb, I expect this team will block better by the week if healthy. The defense getting the crowd fired up at home is underrated

On Sunday - the Special teams lived up to their moniker!!

 

The defense showed up and showed out!!

 

The offense did some good things - but - needs to gain traction each week.

 

The game vs the Titans is KEY to winning our division.  If we lose three of six - we're out of the divisional race.  Then we face a wild card situation - IF the team continues to improve.

 Proves this  defense does need a 20 million dollar linebacker . Would be nice to  have an  elite corner on the outside making 20 million . Damn this  D could be special.
