I'm good with 3 RBs, and 3 TEs...

If we have injuries....

I like 4 backs. If one gets hurt during game with only 3 then your 1 ding away of having 1 back to carry the load rest of game. And if Hines is going to lineup more as a receiver this season it brings us down to just JT and one other. .....

I also prefer 4 TE's, you cant go Quad TE's if you only have 3. :funny:

But overall I don't expect it to impact game much. If there are injuries, marginal backs & te's can be picked up during week.

Unrelated news: Froggin has picked up last week but the hook-up ratio is  below .500 with the weedless Hollowbody. :yuk:

But theres less surface grass so I'm thinking Hoola popper type plugs. Love top water action.  :D

RB1(JT)+APB(NH) is 95-97+%.

Jackson 3-5%, and 3 dressed. Waste IMO.

If quick injury, Jackson IMO. Or maybe Price to PS.

If long injury, signal to Lindsay, or FA.

Tons... https://nfltraderumors.co/top-2022-nfl-free-agents-list/ , and https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/all/running-back/available/

Quick injury use 6-5 Strachan, or Kalinic...

We have bigs...

Long injury.. tons...

Arlington Hambright

https://www.patspulpit.com/2022/8/12/23305407/patriots-roster-analysis-arlington-hambright-2022-nfl-season

Hambright originally arrived in the NFL as a seventh-round draft selection by the Chicago Bears in 2020. Despite joining the league in an unfavorable position due to the Coronavirus pandemic, for example, forcing a cancellation of preseason play, he succeeded in making the 53-man roster and remained there throughout his rookie campaign — appearing in 10 games with one start. Hambright was unable to build on this foundation in Year 2, however, and saw no game action the following season.

What did his 2021 season look like? Coming off a fairly successful rookie campaign that saw him appear in nine regular season games and a playoff contest, Hambright competed for a backup spot along the Bears’ interior offensive line over the summer. While he did see action in all three preseason contests and ended up playing 99 of 163 offensive snaps (60.7%) at left guard, his performance was uneven:

Hambright was credited with a sack and eight additional quarterback disruptions given up.

2022 preview

...With the Patriots seemingly set along their O-line, the 26-year-old is therefore projected to play a depth role at several positions: he most prominently has been featured at guard but also has experience kicking out to offensive tackle.

Does he have positional versatility? Yes, he has. Even if his experience as a two-way player is disregarded — he played offensive and defensive line in high school and early on during his college career — Hambright still offers some solid positional flexibility. The third-year man has lined up at both left and right guard since arriving in the NFL, and also saw a handful of snaps at left tackle in the Patriots’ preseason opener versus the New York Giants.

Traditionally, the Patriots are not keeping more than nine offensive linemen on their 53-man roster. With the five starter spots already occupied, only four positions are left open for competition. Hambright’s versatility — he saw action at both guard spots and left tackle in his preseason debut on Thursday — is a plus, and he also was given some reps with the top unit in practice. He has a realistic shot at making the team, but cannot be regarded a roster lock based on his contract and career thus far.

One-sentence projection: Hambright will be among the four backup offensive linemen to make the initial 53-man roster this season.

 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Segun Olubi

https://ninernoise.com/2022/07/17/49ers-roster-segun-olubi-must-make-name/

...The 6-foot-2, 220-pound defender does have a decent physique for an off-ball linebacker and someone who can make plays in space. And he has some ranginess, too, which he’ll need to make a dent at the pro level...

...A bit undersized for the traditional linebacker mold, Olubi is much closer to the hybrid backer common in today’s pass-happy NFL.

As far as coverage is concerned, his 4.45 40-yard time at his pro day suggests he can keep pace with many a wide receiver and not just running backs and tight ends, although that frame could also work against him a bit when facing off against bigger bodies...

It's great to see him running around, and hitting the ground. A few days doing that to limber up then see how the bod responds.

I'll wager he plays oh, 25 snaps game 1. And take the under.

 Thanks for the video.

I'm thinking 50+% on Game 2.

It was noted that the O/D breakdown last year at the cutdown was 27 offense and 23 defense.

For whatever it’s worth,  this year, reversed.    23 offense, 27 defense.

Yeah I meant to post that the other day. I figured it would balance out some, and it has. As of today, it's 25/25. No doubt more changes will come, but we went from 11 DBs to 9, and 8 OL to 10, which makes more sense to me.

I didn't notice this either until I was looking at our salary cap and realized we are spending the following:

Offense: $95.17 million

Defense: $98.89 million

Specialists: $5.1 million

Practice Squad: $3.35 million

Leaving approximately: $5.9 of cap space

After going back and watching all three preseason games more these past few days a couple things stood out. In the Buffalo game Tenuta couldn't handle Paye, Dayo, or Kline, BUT he had no trouble when facing Banagu. Brooks clearly outplayed Cowart. Stuard has to put the Colts coverage teams in the top 5 or it will be a wasted trade. Our coverage teams have been sucking this year with the losses of Odum and Adams. But the biggest headscratching question of them all is, how is Banagu still on the team and Weatherford got released????? I went to the Bears web sight and coach Eberflus said he is expecting "big things" from Weatherford. It wouldn't surprise me.

Yep, probably a big mistake by Ballard.

Loved Weatherford, but scheme (Gus)..., fit???? Needed time IMO.

Better for Flus's scheme?

6-4 / 225, combo of LB/SS.... and meh 40 (4.6).

Blackmon and Cross - good 40, both FS and SS IMO....

Now LB maybe? After a year?

Perhaps LB coverage... like a dime / package.... maybe a SAM coverage?

I would have kept Weatherford and cut Banagu. What has Banagu done?? Wasn't he inactive a few times last year on game day? We should have went with the rookie. But apparently coach Eberflus is happy in Chicago so we'll see how it works out.

We needed LEO depth.... thin IMO

Banogu, agree, meh....

I'd prefer Ifeadi Odenigbo over Banogu, as a LEO.

We'll see

This may have been a committee decision. I hate committee decisions because intelligence shows a regression to the mean in groups. The bigger the group, the more average the decisions become.

IMO, it should be Gus's decision, with chatter to position coaches. But it's Gus's D, and decision...

Ultimately, it’s Ballard’s decision.   He has the only vote that counts.  All I’ve argued is that everyone else gets input.   That Ballard respects those he works with and respects their views.   He tries to give the coordinators the players they believe in.  He’s done it with Frank on offense.   I suspect he’s done it with Bradley on defense as well.

Possibly. How good of a decision history does Gus have? How does that history compare with all others in Gus's position? Just like the game of football itself, decisions are a competition.

Let the people who have shown to make the best decisions carry more weight in making them.

The only spot that makes me a little concerned is backup at 1 Tech

I dont see one on this roster

We have a list of 3 tech / DEs hybrids

But no one that fits as a backup to Grover

At the end of the game Grover will be gassed...... and these hybrids may have a huge problem stopping the run
