Well Paye played 72% of the snap counts last year for Bradley.  That's pretty high for a DE.  I don't have any idea what their roster was like over there.  Don't know if it is by preference or necessity to have that many snaps for him.

Paye?  Like Kwity Paye?  I'm confused.

OOps meant Ngakuoue.

Couldn't understand why you were confused lol.  Yannick played about 72% of snaps with Raiders last year which is pretty high for DEs.  Paye only played 66 last year for example.

Dayo is certainly higher up the 53 stack than Banogu.

IMO, this is purely a depth chart limitation around the definition of LEO and scheme.

I'd also say that the first depth charts that are published are typically "kinder and gentler" to guys that have been around.

Not saying Banogu won't make it, but Ifeadi seems to have had more wins in one on ones, and also mentioned more than Ben in the media since camp started.

Regardless, back to LEO and scheme. I don't see us playing a LEO every down. Ngakoue was typically out early run downs last year, and came in for 2nd and 3rd. Of course that will fluctuate vs different teams that pass more or pass less... And at Ngakoue's current weight, highly doubt he's in on run downs vs a LT. That'll be Dayo or Lewis IMO. Ben's not really seen as great vs the run either.

Yup. It's not all that big of a change to be honest. We're normally in a 2 LB set anyway. And he won't be stuck in a hole like some folks think of, when they think of a traditional MIKE.

I wanted to get back to YN.  I said Paye but I meant YN.  I couldn't find a way to separate DTs from DEs.  It was just generic DLs.  He was top 25 of all linemen in snap count and higher than that for DEs when you'd take out DTs.  there were several DTs above him like Buck and AD. He played a very high percentage of snaps last year.  Like one of the busiest DEs in the game.

You seem to think that they are going to use him as a specialist.  Is that something management has discussed?

I'm guessing you meant Ngakoue.

I wouldn't say it's high for DEs, I'd say it's pretty normal for starting DEs and DLs in general.

AQM had a slightly higher % than Ngakoue for us.  Had it not been for the week Paye got injured, and the week he came back, Paye's snap count would have been similar too.

Overall, DL needs to be kept fresh. 65-75% is the target for most. And Ngakoue was in a pass happy division.

sportsref, lineups, footballguys all have good snap count figures if you're interested. Like I said in the earlier post, AQM had a similar (slightly higher) snap count % than YN. Paye similar in almost all games but 2 (injury)

And no, I don't see him as a true specialist. Most DEs are either better at run D, or better at pass rush. Starter level DEs that are better at run D normally get earlier snaps, and then come off for guys like Turay or Banogu (who are closer to true specialists) on obvious passing downs. Starter level DEs that are better at pass rushing often come in 2nd and 3rd, after a better run stopper gets 1st down.
