I know this has been brought up before and there is the question of money but assuming it is for realistic terms, I would love to see him return to add experience, not only with a genral knowledge of the game but with a familiarity of the Colts specificly.

What are your thoughts on the matter?

I think he would make this team better in key ways by helping the QB so my vote is yes.

If not, then maybe come midseason the Colts can sign OBJ for the playoff run.  He's been saying he wants to play in LA but I don't think they're going to be able to afford him.  He won't get a top contract, mind you, but the Rams are tight on cap and their receiver corps looks deep and strong.

TY has only had a couple of visits with other teams - and - no contract was offered in time for OTA's and mini-camp.

I don't see him playing in the NFL this year - unless there would be a rash of WR injuries here in Indy.

Injuries have cost him too many games the past couple of years and I just don't think that bodes well for him.

Best wishes to TY on his future.

I agree with this, but wasn;t the main injury last year non football related? That's the main reason I want him back, so he can try and finish with a semi-normal season. I know it's more of a legacy or comfort thing, but it just feels right.

Reminds me of when Reggie Wayne went to NE, and when Andre Johnson came to indy..

No. TY is a shell of his former self. Besides being a veteran presence, he offers nothing as a player anymore that Campbell and Dulin can't do better than him. As far as a mentor, we have Reggie and don't need TY unless he wants to coach these guys up without actually being signed on the team.

This isn't even counting his injury history, and the fact that he's not that good unless Luck forces the ball to him. If we were to sign a veteran WR, sign Julio Jones. At least Matt Ryan has chemistry with him already and his fall from grace can be more attributed to injuries rather than a age decline.

I’m torn. But I think the decision will be made on its own during camp/preseason.

If there’s an injury or if Patmon/Strahan/etc. aren’t showing up, it will be obvious that we need him.

If there’s no injuries in the top 4 and a couple of the others are looking like NFL players, they won’t.

I’m sure Reggie will be honest in his appraisal and recommendation.

Ty is aged out man. Time to retire. And I love TY!

If we sign TYH, or some other vet,  then that says Ballard and Reich think we need more help.   It means Strachan is likely heading for the PS.

But if we don’t, then they are happy with what they’re seeing.   I trust they will make the right call.

you'd rather have patmon than hilton on the final 53? genuine question

6'4'' and young >>> 5'9'' and old in today's league.

Put aside my sentimental feelings or loyalty and think of it strictly as a business league right now. I'd rather take a UDFA over Hilton at this time.

I have a nephew who's 23 and 6'2". I'd take TY over him. :)

There's a hell of a lot more to being good than height and age. If (repeat if) he can stay healthy, he's easily worth signing.

I voted yes. With a QB like Matt Ryan, I think TY can have at least 4 or 5 good games. He brings Vet leadership as well. That could be big come playoff time. I would sign him to something like 1 year-5mill which is doable. He is a better option than Strachan imo. I see the poll is dead even through 46 votes. 23-23, a lot of different opinions here.

Like a few others have said, I think we need to somewhat "move on" and see what we have in the young guys at this point. If we get an injury to someone like Pitt or Campbell, then i totally see bringing him in later in the year or even mid-season if he is still kicking around, but right now, assuming all stay relatively healthy for the year, we have got to see what we have in players like Dulin, Patmon, Strachan etc.

I think you're a bit too focused on physique here.  Also it's a rare UDFA who can outplay a vet of his skill.  That's not to say you're wrong about signing Ty.  He might be done or the Colts may not be interested in him regardless.  I just think you're prioritizing the wrong things there.

And for the record I do like the potential of this wideout group.  I think Pierce has a chance to be quite good.  But look at his highlights and you see a ton of sidelines and nines.  The guy has a lot to work on to where he is felt in all the different uses he's going to see at this level.

If I'm a DC right now getting ready to shut down the Colts attack things look a ton easier than trying to shut down the better groups you see on playoff hopefuls.  Double up Pittman and play the run.  Is there going to be enough threat to work that backside of the formation and take advantage?  Honestly I am not sure.  If Pierce starts fast then I think this room is going to be just fine.  But I don't think there's enough threat with the rest and this group suffers by comparison vs the teams they're going to be facing if they get into the playoffs.

The question is whether the QB has enough to be comfortable and fully utilize his skill set.  I am not so sure about that right now.  I'd feel a lot better if they had a vet added to that group even if he gets bounced by the kids final cut.

i voted no and i really like TY but i think i would rather see if some of these younger wr's we have can play

now; if they cannot make i think we need to find that out also so that we could then look for a vet fa maybe next year or in next years draft. but i do not want these players on our roster's if we don't give them a chance to prove themselves

i also feel the same way with qb's like SE he should be on the ps and if someone takes him so be it

Sadly - he's had 2 injury-plagued seasons - mostly in his legs.  At his age - that doesn't tend to improve.

Believe me - if I thought for one moment that TY could come back and have a productive year - I would LOVE IT!!

The fact that the Colts haven't signed him says quite a bit.  Perhaps they add him in-season as an injury replacement.

    • We can’t get through a Pittman appreciation post without turning it into a Pierce trashing.  For what it’s worth, Pierce’ rookie year output exceeded Reggie’s rookie year and nearly matched his second year output.  Most WR’s take time to develop in the NFL.  Gotta look at the good with Pierce and there have been some really good moments, including a couple grabs in the Ravens game.
    • I think Young will get it turned around when they stop having OL issues. With solid protection he will be okay.
    • This play right here catapulted my respect even more for MPJ.   MPJ's helmet came off from being stiffed arm in the face, while being double covered, knows he was going to take a huge hit, couldn't even see the ball.....still didn't drop it.            Pay the man.
