Not a fan of Matt Corral, but I do like Travon Walker over some of the other no. 1 picks I've seen.

Please Mr. Ballard, don’t draft a QB in this draft.:(

You can probably call him Chris

I think it would be nice to reunite him with Pittman

I hope that they go WR or trade the pick for more picks

I hope that they go WR or trade the pick for more picks

I hope that they go WR or trade the pick for more picks

But.......  IF (a big IF) the Colts feel that Corral can be the QB of the future and want to take the next two years behind Ryan to learn the position......  Then I am not upset by it

He is not ready to start in the NFL

Until the long term QB is on the roster ANY Year, may be the year to draft a QB

Corral is highly mobile, has quick release, and a strong arm .... He did VERY well against the best conference in football

He is very accurate with great touch on short to intermediate routes

Deep ball, down the sidelines.... not so much

He is a wild card, and has some win the game at all costs, on every down mentality, which got Carson in trouble

But......  If the Colts think HE is the guy for the long run.....  Im all for it

In my reading….  Perhaps the biggest strike against Corrall is the system that he runs at Mississippi.   It’s the system run by Lane Kiffen, and it sounds like most NFL personnel types don’t think very highly of it.   The system is fine for college, but it doesn’t work in the NFL.  Mostly lots of dink and dunk, short stuff that works against simple defenses dealing with a hurry-up offense.

So Corrall is viewed as someone who might need two years to come close to getting up to speed.    That’s a BIG projection.   And that doesn’t even include his small frame and his questionable character background, and now an unimpressive wonderlic score.

It wouldn’t seem like a very Ballard-like thing to do to draft him as our QB of the future.

I hope you are joking with pick 42. Man I hope we take a WR, all this QB talk is nauseating.

4 safeties in first 42, I’ve a little hard time believing that.

Perhaps two in the first, and maybe two more in the top-10 of the second round….  That’s what I’ve been reading.

Certainly not a lock, but I wouldn’t be surprised.   In fact, I’d be fine with that as it might push players the Colts might want down to 42.

If the Colts want to pick Matt Corral I believe he would be available in rounds 3 and 4 and would be selected there.  I really think the Colts are going to go with the BPA at wide receiver or offensive tackle although if a highly regarded CB or safety were to drop into their lap they might go that route too.  If Ballard holds to form in earlier drafts, expect a trade in rounds 2 or 3 for more draft picks if the Colts don't see a player they like on their draft board.

Even if Ballard likes a QB, it would still make no sense to take one. I would stick with Sam as my backup for 2022. There will be at least 2 or 3 next year he may even like better and we have a first round pick next year. Matt Ryan is our QB, like it or not and getting his replacement next year and having him sit for a year makes total sense. Drafting a QB this year does the team no good at all. We need WR's and a LT.

I think DT is also a big need that no one talks about.  After Grover and Deforrest, the only two DTs on the roster are Chris Williams and RJ McIntosh.  I could see Travis Jones of Connecticut in the 2nd…

Yes.  And don't under estimate the desire to still give Gus more of the kind of players he wants.  He got an EDGE and two Corners during the FA period, so getting a DT in the draft is not out of the question.

Most of the backup DTs have not returned, and that may be a precursor to a move to get more Gus' types.

You are right, the Colts could use more depth at Defensive Tackle and besides Travis Jones, I like Matthew Butler of Tennessee and Thomas Booker of Stanford who the Colts have already been in contact with.  Butler and Booker are both around 6'3 - 6'4 and 300 pounds each and could play multiple positions on the DL if needed.  Butler offers some pass rush potential along with his run defense and is projected to go in rounds 3-4.  Booker is probably a 4th-6th round pick.

Those are the exact two I would target if I were GM.  Booker’s the one I like more.
