MLB 2022 Season: It's Your Pitch, Jay Kirk

Recommended Posts

1. Brewers 17-8

2. Cards 14-10 (2.5 back)

3. Pirates 9-13 (6.5 back)

3. Cubs 9-15 (7.5 back)

5. Reds 3-21 (13.5 back)

Current standings.  Cardinals are just outside the last wildcard spot but the 3 in front of them are all from the NL West so they should beat each other up a bit.  Cardinals start a tough series with the Giants today.

Those poor Reds...3 wins...on pace for under 20 for the season!  So many injuries and there's not much help in the minors for them.  I think the rebuild needs to start in the front office!  Work it top to bottom, because these players will never win in the majors.  gotta blame the ones scouting them, signing them and then trading or letting go of the good ones.

Thank you! #SellTheTeamBob!

We had the right players to at least be competitive. And then we sold them all to save a few bucks. Now we have a depleted team with a manager who is completely lost and outmatched. Our starting pitchers are trying too hard to be perfect, so they end up making mistakes instead of following the fundamentals. This is possibly the worst “professional” team across all sports that I have witnessed.

This right here is a perfect representation of our season:

Looking at it and it is very early but I can see the Brewers, Dodgers and Mets being division champs. 2 wild cards = Giants and Cards. A long way to go though. Mets look scary good, I bet @NFLfanis smiling bigtime right now.

It really doesn't look like the Reds or Cubs will be good this season. If the Reds go 60-102 and the Cubs go 70-92 there is really no difference in the end result. Both bad seasons.

Winning 60 games? Man, I don’t even know if we’ll break 30 before it’s all said and done.

Unfortunately, I have not been watching much. Maybe I will turn it on now -- there is a game at 7:10 PM ET.

The Brewers have the best record, I believe.

Time for the Reds to redeem themselves a little.   3 game series against the Brew Crew.   I hope they can take 2/3.

Castillo finally returns, so that's something! Still missing half the roster due to injuries. Not sure what happened with the Pirates this weekend, but we somehow got a series win for the first time this season... In May... The Brewers will be tough to get even one win against. We gotta beat them at least once this season though, right?

It's the Pirates, they have sucked for 20 years haha . I would love to see the Reds smoke the Brewers but I doubt it happens. Cubs aren't smoking anyone anymore either.

You got your wish! A 10-5 smoking. Nice to see us upset the Brewers for once. Maybe the Pirates were the confidence makers we needed to at least be competitive again. Still not expecting too many wins but it would be nice to leave the worst record to the Cleveland Spiders!

And just like that. We did! Beat the Brewers 14-11 today. Our starting catcher is making quite a spark for the offense now that he’s healthy.

I seen that, the Reds did it.  Small win for a bad team but you have to take it where you can get it.

And if this doesn't show the Reds season @RollerColt, the Reds allow no hits to the Pirates (7 an 1/3 pitched by Greene), and doesn't get a no-hitter nor a win. Pirates win 1-0 after 3 walks and misplayed double play ball allow the pirates to score. And since the Pirates only batted for 8 innings, it doesn't count as a no hitter either

That sucks. :(But the Reds are playing better. The Mets announcers reported that the Reds had won 4 of 6 or 6 of 8 (can't remember).

The Reds being the Reds. The worst part was I wasn't even mad about it. I'm numb to the whole thing at this point.

An added thing to watch this season will be if the Reds can pass the Cubs and put them at the bottom of the division.

Finishing last in the division:

Since 1969, when divisions were first established, through this season:

Arizona 5
Atlanta 8
Baltimore 6
Boston 2
Cubs 11
White Sox 4
Cincinnati 2
Cleveland 9
Colorado 6
Detroit 9
Florida 7
Houston 5
Kansas City 9
Angels 7
Dodgers 1
Milwaukee 10
Minnesota 8
Mets 8
Yankees 1
Oakland 7
Philadelphia 9
Pittsburgh 12
San Diego 17
Seattle 13
San Francisco 5
St. Louis 1
Tampa Bay 9
Texas 11 (includes Washington Senators 1969-1971)
Toronto 10
Washington 13 (includes Montreal 1969-2004)

Yeah I have still been watching but I can't say anything great about the Cubs right now. They win a few here and there but the best they will finish is 3rd in the division. I have already accepted it. It was expected, we blew our team up last year so it is what it is. Cubs won last night, I watched bits and parts of it. We have some good young players but the overall team is average at best. Hell as of now only the Brewers would be in the playoffs in the NL Central. 3 teams from the NL West would be in = Dodgers, Padres, and Giants. Mets are running away with the NL East. It is early though.

Looking more and more like a Mets - Yankees World Series to be honest. Still really early of course.

True. But they remind me of the "Eagles Dream Team". They've played some pretty bad baseball at times this year... Like losing a series to the Pirates... THE PIRATES...

@buccoltsmisses Willie Stargell like I miss Kris Bryant about now lmao . It is all good though, Cubs had their run and time to rebuild.

Actually, I miss Clemente the most, but I liked Pops too.

We're on like year 38 of our rebuild plan, but it DOES look like we're headed in the right direction, finally.

A lot of promising position players in the minors, but we may be light on pitching.

We may look better in the second half when they start calling up some fielders, but we won't get over any humps until pithing improves.

You know.... says the guy who's team just got unofficially no hit.

Pujols pitched the 9th inning to close out the Giants last night.   He wasn't great but did get the last 3 outs.

I was actually at that game last night, and saw him pitch it was absolutely hilarious watching him pitch, and I really loved the HRs

    • I think he still will, it's just a matter of time.
    • I think it's the sophomore class that I am really following this year and see how well these young men continue to grow.    DI: Mason Graham, Michigan (Sophomore) highest-graded true freshman IDL in the country in 2022 with an 80.3 grade.  2023 PFF TOW 2 honors   SS: Jaden Hicks, Washington State (Sophomore) – 2023 PFF TOW 2 honors   RB Quinshon Judkins (Ole Miss) Sophomore 2022 PFF TOW 9 honors had 14 broken tackles against Texas A&M, 5 breakaway runs of 15+ yards in company with likes of Derick Henry, Alvin Kamara and Chuba Hubbard.  Judkins came to Ole Miss as just a three-star recruit but, like Will Johnson at No. 21, dominated in Year 1.  He ranked in the top 10 in college football in rushing yards (1,567), rushing touchdowns (16), yards after contact (929) and forced missed tackles (76). Judkins also moved the chains on 91 of his attempts last year, placing fourth among FBS running backs.   WR Tetairoa McMillian (Arizona) Sophomore led all true freshman in 2022 with 702 receiving yards and 8 TDs.   RG Jonah Savaiinaea (Arizona) Sophomore ranked 2nd among all true freshman guards with a 76.0 pass-blocking grade.   LT Kelvin Banks Jr (Texas) Sophomore – managed to hold his own vs Will Anderson Jr entering 2023 NFL draft as the top player in the draft.  Banks dominated as a pass protector only allowing 3.5% pressure rate and 98.4 pass-block.  had a 80.8 PB and 89.3 RB grades in a zone-run scheme.  Week 7 allowed zero pressures and only 8 pressures all season (weeks 0-6). Has a 74.6 RB grade and an 88.0 PB grade week 7.  To-date has an 83.5 PB grade 5th best among Power 5 tackle.  2022 PFF TOW 4 offensive POW and earned TOW 6 and 7 honors   NT/IDL Deone Walker (Kentucky) Sophomore – in 2022 as a true freshman finished 3rd among SEC IDL with an 80.9 pass-rushing grade.  6’6” 330 LB at 19 yo beat O’Cyrus Torrence.   Edge Mykel Williams (Georgia) Sophomore 5th best returning edge defenders in college football.  Williams has a 75.9 run-defense grade ranked 4th among SEC edge defenders and led all FBS true freshman edge defenders.  His 6 sacks tied for the most among all true freshman in the country while his 33 pressures were tied for 2nd most.  Williams is a future first round pick.   WLB Abdul Carter (PSU) Sophomore freshman 56 tot, 6.5 sacks, 2 FF and 4 PDs   LCB Will Johnson (Michigan) Sophomore – as a true freshman led all corners in the Power 5 with a 91.1 grade in man coverage.  Johnson’s 2 INTs in man tied 5th same group in 2022.   IDL Dontay Corleone (Cincy) Sophomore – mid-way through 2022 he was 4th nationally with a 91.5 PFF grade making Ivan Pace Jr job on the field easier.  After 10 weeks Corleone has 41 TOT, 3 sacks, 1 FF, and 1 FR.  Freshman 93.9 DEF, 94.8 RDEF, 82.5 PRUSH, 61.8 COV.  led all FBS defenders with a 93.8 grade. His 94.7 run-defense grade was also the best mark by a front-seven defender since Micah Parsons in 2019 and recorded the 6th most run-stop (27) in 2022.  As a pass-rusher placed 8th among all defensive tackles in the country with a 15.6% pass-rush win rate.   MLB Harold Perkins Jr. (LSU) Sophomore - a 2022 top-10 recruit as an OLB, off-ball LB/SCB only allowed 4 yards in coverage in Week 11 (2022) vs Arkansas with 2 FF, had 7 pressures on 13 pass-rush reps 6 of which were a sack or hit on QB earning 93.8 grade.   CB Benjamin Morrison (ND) Sophomore – PFF Week 10 honors in 2022 – in Week 10 seen 13 targets in coverage allowing 3 first downs with an 2INT/1TD-Pick 6 vs Clemson earning a 90.5 coverage grade.  earned PFF Week 12 (2022) Defensive POW for second time in three weeks.  Picking off 3 passes and allowed 1 catch in shutout win over BC.  Saw 6 targets and gave up one for a 32-yard gain while earning a 91.9 PFF grade in press-man coverage.   RB Jaydn Ott – (Cal) Sophomore -As a freshman in 2022 after first 4 weeks owns the highest rushing grade in FBS 94.4 – 8.1 yards PA.  Ott finished off 2022 season with 897 rushing yards averaging 5.3 yards per carry and 8 rushing touchdowns.  He also caught 46 passes for 321 yards and added 3 more touchdowns as a receiver.  After first two games this season Ott already has 270 rushing yards and 3 rushing touchdowns.   CB Malaki Starks (Georgia) Sophomore – Former top-10 recruit.  As a freshman 2022-2023 after 2-3 weeks PFF graded 87.8 DEF, 81.1 RDEF, 65.9 PRUSH, 87.3 COV.  Finished with a 72.1 run-defense grade and was 3rd among true freshman safeties in the Power 5.  Starks recorded 8 combined INTs and * tied for 5th among SEC safeties in 2022.
    • Coleman transferred from Michigan State.  Agree he has showed strong hands making several tough catches in traffic and has impressive speed for his size.  Not sure we need another WR-Z like Alec Pierce who is signed until 2025.    Some other players have been interested in are:   RG Justin Osborne, SMU – best in zone, gap or man schemes – PFF early honorable mention before the season for the ACC.  Earned 2023 PFF TOW 1 honors.   LG Wesley Ndago, Air Force – PFF TOW 1 and 4 – 2023.   TE Benjamin Yurosek, Stanford - Displayed athletic ability making several tough catches.    SS Tyler Nubin, Minnesota - Got two top traits, football IQ and impressive ball production.  Versus Nebraska he had 2 picks earning PFF TOW 1 honors in 2023.   Edge Kaimon Rucker, North Carolina Tar Heels – 2022 PFF TOW 0 honors.  Rucker became first Tar Heel in 10-years to be named the Walker Camp Defensive Player of the Week.  Versus South Carolina he had 5.5 TFLs and 2 sacks.    LCB Josh Newton (TCU) - solid QB passer ratings, 56.4 in 2022 and 86.2 in 2021  LCB D.J. James (Auburn) - solid QB passer ratings, 61.3 in 2022 and 64.9 in 2021
    • stafford has a very quick release, dont know if we can pressure him
    • I agree that AR is our guy, that's obviously why we drafted him, lol.  Minshew performed as well, and better than many of the starters I've seen, so far in the first 2 games this season.  I think if AR can stay healthy, we are set at the QB position for a long time, but after today's game, I am comfortable with Minshew coming in.
