Manning made the receivers more than they made him.

So can we say Edge made Manning?  Because you can say Edge leading the league in rushing his first 2 seasons, helped accelerate Peyton’s growth and adjustment to the NFL’s game speed?  I hate when guys on here try to give Peyton credit for making the careers of men who helped him succeed just as much as he helped them.

Ponder this thought:  Luck did more with less than Peyton did in their first few years in the league.  Luck never had a thousand yard rusher (to keep defenses honest) until old man Gore arrived and by then he had begun to get battered.  What would Luck have done with Edge, Marv, Reggie, & Clark as weapons in his first few years?  How much would he have benefited from Tom Moore & Tony Dungy’s tutelage & leadership?  Or give him Polian or Ballard as GM.

I get it.  Peyton is considered the goat around here (as he should be).  But he didn’t make 32, 88, or 87.  They were all young and came up together.  Those were mutually beneficial relationships.

The best argument is that Wayne and Harrison were both good without Manning.   All of them were great because they were all great, not because someone else made them great.  Sure playing with other great players helped all of them but that’s more guys complimenting each other not making the other great.

If this perfect roster is also guaranteed a full season of health, I would have Austin Collie in the slot. He was lighting it up in his second season before the concussions took him out. 9 games with 649 Yds, and 8 Tds.

I did mine more like an all time team so you might have guys who might not fit in a real team like my LBers or DTs or safeties

QB:  Manning

RB:  Edge pre-injury (he’s in the hall and did it here longer than Faulk or Dickerson, Taylor could end up here one day)

WR:  marvin

WR:  Wayne

WR:  Hilton

TE:  Clark

T: Hinton

G:  Nelson

C:  Donaldson (it was hard to pick to between him and Saturday)

G:  Solt

T:  Glenn (although AC was close here since I just took two tackles, if it had been a true RT it would have been Diem)

End:  Freeney

End:  Mathis

DT:  Siragusa

DT:  Buckner

LB:  Leonard

LB:  Bickett

LB:  June

CB:  Davis

CB:  Buchanan

Nickel:  Moore

S:  Bethea

S:  Belsor (left Sanders off just because he couldn’t stay healthy)

K:  Vinatieri

P:  Stark

Kick off specialist:  McAfee (okay I just wanted Pat on the team but man his kickoffs were great and I am not sure if there has been better onside kick kicker I saw than him)

LS:  Overton

Returner:  Verdin

coaches

HC:  Dungy

OC:  Moore

DC:  Tobinon the

ST:  Ventrone

GM:  Polian

Owner:  Jim (not hard to pick him over his dad)

I liked yours the best so far but here are some changes i would make

got to have Saturday in there so would put him at RG (remember that play-off game we had with Denver and he moved over to RG?)

another change i would make would be JT over Edege (loved him though and it's very close) but he hesitated too much picking his spots but of course it was great running

on the D side i would have Sanders (maybe Belsor as backup in case of injury lol)

So many RB's -Faulk,Edge,Dickerson all HOF and Taylor could be some day. Not sure any other franchise has a 3 like this (Didnt even mention Balt Colts Lenny Moore and Taylor's fellow Salem hs alumni Lydell Mitchell).

Chris Hinton should be a Hall Of Famer- Guy was as solid as they come (Funny in a lot of drafts he would have been #1) we got him plus 19 overall pick following year and a #2 QB and still regarded as one of most lopsided trades ever...so weird.

That's right, sports fans.  There were GOOD players on the team before Peyton Manning.

Lost of great conversations as a kid with my gramps about the great colts and teams of the past. One of our last conversations was about Manning. He told me to enjoy him because that kid was going to take the Colts to a Super Bowl. He wasn't wrong. Good Times.
