Offense:

I won't even try to describe what kind of offense I would run because it would basically just be Peytons' show anyway haha

QB1 - Peyton Manning

QB2 - Andrew Luck (basically to come in on short yardage/goalline situations)

HB1 - Jonathan Taylor

HB2 - Edgerrin James (3rd down back since he's better at pass-pro)

WR1 - Marvin Harrison

WR2 - Reggie Wayne

WR3 - TY Hilton/Brandon Stokely (TY is better outside and in the return game, but Stoke is a slot-machine)

TE1 - Dallas Clark

TE2 - Jack Doyle

LT - Tarik Glenn

LG - Quenton Nelson

C - Jeff Saturday

RG - Jake Scott

RT - Ryan Diem

Defense:

I'd basically have a 4-3 zone defense.

RE - Dwight Freeney

DT - DeForest Buckner

DT - Booger/Big Grove

LE - Robert Mathis

LOLB - Darius Leonard

MLB - Gary Brackett

ROLB - Cato June

CB - Marlin Jackson

CB - Nick Harper

CB - Kenny Moore

FS - Antoine Bethea

SS - Bob Sanders

Special Teams:

K - Adam Vinatieri

P - Pat McAfee

KR/PR - Dominic Rhodes/Nyheim Hines

This team would be so much fun to watch!  Peyton and the offense moving the ball and putting up points.  Leonard and that defense getting sacks and turnovers left and right.  McAfee recovering his own onside kicks and having fun.  Oh and you got Vinny in case you need that clutch kick.

*Sorry for the duplicate post above, darn autocorrect.

Okereke became O'Keefe and Booger became Booker, LOL.

Braden Smith >>> Jake Scott by far, gotta find a way to get the former on the field.

Also had to find a way to get both Siragusa (Goose) and Buckner on the field at the same time.

Hmmmm, when you say best of the Indianapolis Colts are we including short timers as well? I'd say Andre Johnson would have to replace TY and Vontae Davis and a prime Xavier Rhodes would have to be in at corner. Then of course we have the issue of Marshal Faulk!

Id swap Out Luck for Clipboard Jesus Jim Sorgi!

and Swap out Doyle for Marcus Pollard or Dilger!

if the NFL would allow it, the Colts should run the same sets of the 4 horsemen of Notre Dame with (JT/Edge/Faulk/ and Dickerson)

Hello board!  Glad to be able to post on this one after a few years of just reading.  Seems there are some forgotten big time players in the mix, Bubba Smith, Mike Curtis, Ted Hendricks, and Jerry Logan were all on the field at the same time. John Mackey was one of the early offensive weapons tight ends were seldom used as.

Agree and I would add Gene “Big Daddy” Lipscomb, Eric Dickerson and John Mackey.
And Unitas over Luck.

It is just Indianapolis players so Unitas wouldn't be on this roster. Players like Andre Johnson wouldn't make this roster either because as a Colt he stunk

Here is my all-time Indianapolis team: Starters + a back-up QB.

Offense

QB - Peyton Manning (Andrew Luck would be the back-up)

RB - Eric Dickerson

TE - Dallas Clark

WR1 - Marvin Harrison

WR2 - Reggie Wayne

Slot - TY Hilton

LT - Chris Hinton

LG - Quenton Nelson

C - Jeff Saturday (he and Peyton had perfect chemistry)

RG - Ron Solt

RT - Ryan Diem

Defense - I would go 4-3 here

DE - Dwight Freeney

DT - Tony Siragusa

DT - Deforest Buckner

DE - Robert Mathis

OLB - Darius Leonard

MLB - Gary Brackett

OLB - Cato June

CB - Vontae Davis

CB - Marlin Jackson

FS - Antoine Bethea

SS - Bob Sanders

SP Teams

Kicker - Adam Vinatieri

Punter - Pat McAfee

Long snapper - Luke Rhodes

PR/KR - Clarence Verdin

Coaches

Head Coach - Tony Dungy

OC - Tom Moore

DC - Ron Meeks

Owner and GM

Jim Irsay

Chris Ballard - because he would go for the undefeated season IMO and he drafts well.

You can tell who started watching during the Manning era, they dont think we had any good players before them.

Id also swap out Gary Brackett for Jeff Herrod and Cato June for Duane Bickett.

I did mine more like an all time team so you might have guys who might not fit in a real team like my LBers or DTs or safeties

QB:  Manning

RB:  Edge pre-injury (he’s in the hall and did it here longer than Faulk or Dickerson, Taylor could end up here one day)

WR:  marvin

WR:  Wayne

WR:  Hilton

TE:  Clark

T: Hinton

G:  Nelson

C:  Donaldson (it was hard to pick to between him and Saturday)

G:  Solt

T:  Glenn (although AC was close here since I just took two tackles, if it had been a true RT it would have been Diem)

End:  Freeney

End:  Mathis

DT:  Siragusa

DT:  Buckner

LB:  Leonard

LB:  Bickett

LB:  June

CB:  Davis

CB:  Buchanan

Nickel:  Moore

S:  Bethea

S:  Belsor (left Sanders off just because he couldn’t stay healthy)

K:  Vinatieri

P:  Stark

Kick off specialist:  McAfee (okay I just wanted Pat on the team but man his kickoffs were great and I am not sure if there has been better onside kick kicker I saw than him)

LS:  Overton

Returner:  Verdin

coaches

HC:  Dungy

OC:  Moore

DC:  Tobin

ST:  Ventrone

GM:  Polian

Owner:  Jim (not hard to pick him over his dad)

I guess it would depend on if players are in their prime or if they are how they were on the Colts.  I'd definitely have Andre Johnson on the team if he was in his prime.

I was a bit surprised you didn't have Eric Dickerson on the team.

Pre-Injury Edge over JT.

If we're moving RTs to RG, I'd take Braden Smith at RG and leave Diem at RT.

It says a lot about our Corner situation if Nick Harper makes this list going back nearly 20 years.

also says something about our offensive playmakers if we go back that far too.  (Although Harrison. Wayne, and Clark were very good.  (All 1st round draft picks by the way...not 2nd and 3rd rounders...hmmmm.)

Manning made the receivers more than they made him.

Marvin had elite over the top speed along with fantastic agility and hands.  Reggie emerged as a better receiver during the Luck years and made Luck a better QB.  I think those two make the OPs list because of their merits, not because they played with PM.

I would also have those 2 as my WR's, no doubt about it.  Just saying that they may not be HOF material if they played with Tim Couch, Colt McCoy, Brandon Weeden, Charlie Fry and Brady Quinn.

Good point.  I'd love to see some FIRST round offensive talent in the Ballard era.

Any consideration for Matt Ryan or Phillip Rivers as qb2? depending on how Ryan does this year ofcourse! If we’re talking 1 year wonders!

If you are talking one year wonders it’s Harbaugh hands down over those two.  Still there is no denying Manning and Luck have had the best careers of any Indianapolis QBs in Indy and number three (which is Harbaugh) isn’t really that close.

    • We made no attempt to re-sign Fischer or Glowinski. Ballard had faith in "his guys." Good job Ballard - Grigson would be so proud!
    • I wonder more why coaches continue to keep trying it when it's clear it isn't working.
    • This team isn't going to win many games if the OL doesn't figure things out quickly.
    • Replace Pryor and Pinter and good things will happen.
    • The line has two problems.   1.  Pinter just isn’t good enough.  That’s a personal issue that I would be looking at if I was the Colts.  I would be thinking about trying Dennis Kelly or moving Pryor over to RG and letting Raimann play LT.  I will say there were a couple of plays where Pinter did hold his own vs Chris Jones but there are just too many plays where he gets turn styles or worse (see the play where he was turned into a speed bump for a sack).  Teams have figured out he’s the weak leak and are attacking accordingly.   2.  The issue Romo spot lighted today.  Communication.  Ryan is adjusting to a new offense and is having to think more than he normally does and because of that the Colts are having issues getting the protection schemes right.  Kelly gives the line their blocking assignments but Ryan gives the backs, tightends, and receivers theirs.  The best play to spotlight this was the play where KC sent five guys but both Taylor and Pryor went to block the same guy and no one picked up the guy coming inside of Pryor resulting in a free rusher on Ryan.  Romo seemed pretty confident Ryan is going to be just fine in about six weeks (which fits the patterns of offensive struggles the Colts have had under Reich at the start of the season with all the new QBs, Luck, Rivers, and Wentz all had the same adjustment period to being in a new system.).  So the good news is that should get better with time.  The really good news was that Ryan seemed like he was finally comfortable in the offense at the end of the game and the blocking was MUCH better.  Maybe it’s finally starting to click.
