Name the 2 roster cuts you are most surprised about (all cuts below)

  1. Shawn Davis - surprised we let one of draft picks go, especially after injuries slowed his opportunity
  2. Kaufusi - had a ton of Ts in the preseason

Name the 2 roster keeps you are most surprised about (roster below)

  1. Stallworth - overloaded at NT (kept 4)
  2. Tell - kept a bunch of CBs

Name two general/misc things (unit size, health recovery, etc,) that you are surprised about

  • Keeping 11 DL
  • Only keeping 3.5 SAFs, and a bunch of CBs

Name two cut players you hope make it to the PS

  • Vaughns
  • Davis
  • Kaufusi - ok, I added an extra lol

What are you most happy about?

  • Strachan making the roster, and looking like the real deal, not just our normal late round WR fan favorite.

What are you most unhappy about?

  • LT situation...

Name the 2 roster cuts you are most surprised about (all cuts below)

- Probably Shawn Davis and maybe Andrew Brown. Hard to argue about DL since they kept so many. Guessing Shawn Davis will       end up on the PS.

Name the 2 roster keeps you are most surprised about (roster below)

 - Maybe Patmon and Rochell just because of the numbers at those positions

Name two general/misc things (unit size, health recovery, etc,) that you are surprised about

- Number of DL and WR kept.

- How thin the secondary still looks.

Name two cut players you hope make it to the PS

- Tyler Vaughns - he just looks like a Zach Pascal type. Nothing spectacular except his consistency.

- Deon Jackson - I think he just needs more work. There is some talent there.

What are you most happy about?

- There is nothing really surprisingly stupid. The whole process seems to be unspectacular and improves the team.

What are you most unhappy about?

- Again, how thin the corner group is. Maybe they will look better with a full pass rush and playing to scheme, but beyond Rhodes   and Moore, it does not look good.

DB is one of my biggest concerns, it's not solely focused on CB.

I'm happy with NB and CB1. Concerned about CB2 and FS.

We don't ask much of SS, and Willis is doing more than fine.

I think Blackmon is good at FS. My concern is what happens if and when one of them gets hurt.

Same with CB. If Rhodes or Moore goes down, the air raid sirens are going off.

This is kind of hard to answer until we see the real roster.  That should be later today, right?

The only mild surprise to me was Chachere, who deserved to make it.  We still don't know if he, Fries, or Williams/Woods will still be on the 53 after today though.

1.Chachere showed an strong nose for the ball. Very good tackler as well, thought he out played Odum. Kaufusi shows promise, Glasgow just played well enough to keep his spot.

2. Stallworth never impressed me, I liked Brown better. When Dayo comes back I bet Stallworth goes. Tell was a surprising keep to me, but he didn't play much to judge him. I have a feeling we will see him at safety more this year.

3. I'm impressed with the level of competition at WR. Stachan and Patmon are very solid. Vaughns and Black werent slouches. If TY misses significant time he may not start in INDY ever again.

Speed of the Defense, our defense will be a lot faster in the front seven this year.

4. I want to see Chachere and Dion Jackson on the practice squad.

5. I'm very happy about Paye being very humble and veteran like.

6. I'm most unhappy about this Vax rule poisoning chemistry and practice time league wide.

Blackmon had some pretty big struggles the second half of the year in coverage once teams started testing him. He's no doubt a monster hitter when things are in front of him, but he's got room to grow on the back end. Hoping he took some steps forward in the off season. If he can improve in that area, the sky is the limit for him, and we could be talking Pro Bowls. If not, he could end up getting burnt a lot this year.

NB is good, and deep. Moore is of course fantastic, and Carrie is one of the better depth NBs out there. That said, Carrie is also in the mix at CB2. Chachere though looks the part for NB depth too, and also at FS.

IMO, our only issue at corner is starting CB2.....

Overall, depth is depth for a reason. You can't have starter grade guys as #2s at all positions. CB2 starter is shaky, RYS or Carrie is actually decent depth. We just need someone to step up there as starter, and play like a starter.

Not sure there's going to be a bunch of change.

Ehlinger likely goes to IR (min 3 weeks) at 4pm, opening up a spot.

TY could go to IR too, opening up another spot. They said he'll miss at least a couple games, so three isn't much of a stretch.

FIsher could also go IR. He's not been cleared to return from PUP, but assume he can flip to IR some how when off Covid.

Pinter and Woods may also be short term IR candidates.

So, might have 3 slots for Wentz, Pascal, and Kelly open up. If not, we might see one of the fringe guys get bumped.

Six Questions (feel free to copy/paste into your reply)

Name the 2 roster cuts you are most surprised about (all cuts below)

Kaufasi - at a minimum his energy could be used on ST? I know that they have high hopes for Glasgow and thats why he wasnt playing in the preseason games but Kaufasi has the energy and apparently the IT factor.  It surprised me.

Davis - as you noted the draft spot, the injury slowed him. Maybe he is going to PS and learn there as a scout team member. and be there if there is an injury??? I hope.

Name the 2 roster keeps you are most surprised about (roster below)

I know but I dont know on Brett Hundley.  I just dont have a comfortable feeling with Jacob Eason as QB2.  tell me I am wrong.  He is Jeff George lite.  He has a cannon but not much touch.  while ehlinger and hundley dont have the arm strength of Eason. they have the IT factor and the touch. Call me stupid.

The revolving door for Holding Spot at LT for Eric Fisher

So many going in and out the door and then releasing them.  It cannot be that difficult. s

Name two general/misc things (unit size, health recovery, etc,) that you are surprised about

I am surprised at the way Wentz and Nelson have recovered from Foot surgery.  As a former baseball player in college I know my injuries took longer to heal.  as a referee (football ref - Not NFL) thats been harder as I age.  No jokes please. LOL

I am surprised at SO many DL/DE/NT depth.  are we going to use a revolving unit or rotate for run/pass situations with different schemes/players.

Name two cut players you hope make it to the PS

1. Davis -S

2. Kaufasi-LB

What are you most happy about?

Ballard is one of the best GM.  Like most there will be mistakes but he is frugal and prudent.

What are you most unhappy about?

WR.  Lots of athleticism but I am not sure about the football IQ (IT factor).

I'd like to see Chachere to stick to the 53. He's intriguing to me as FS/S/NB depth after how good he looked.

I think the team will handle the vax stuff just fine.

To both posts, I think Stallworth is the odd man out if we have to bump a NT. Just didn't impress at all to me.

Blackmon testified that because of last years injury he lost considerable training time. As the season went on he lost his legs.
He and Willis will be better as a unit. I am not concerned.
Tell is an athlete trying to figure out how to be a corner. I'm not at all optomistic he will ever think fast enough to be a cover man.
We have two good linebackers and a hope with the other 4. A big move would really help.
4-5 really good prospects got released yesterday. I hope we get them back.

Blackmon's coverage struggles go well beyond last year.

Not ready to say 2 good LBs yet. Oke has to prove he can do well against the run. Even limited to passing downs last year, he still struggled at time in both phases.

I have zero clue what to expect from Tell. Between position change, opt out, and injuries, just doesn't seem to get traction.

As far as the linebackers, I really liked how Speed was playing before he got hurt. Adams and Franklin are solid.

Tell doesn't have to be great. He just has to be better than RYS. I've lost faith that RYS is ever going to live up to what they want.

Could this be because Henry ran over us when both Buckner and Autry missed the game at home due to Covid?

Welp Autry/Buckner aren't NTs though. They both slide over on late and obvious passing downs, at least Buckner does, and we expect Lewis to do the same like Autry (or at least I do). We already rotated Grover pretty good.

Keeping Rochelle for DE/3T depth fits that reasoning though.

Here's the snap counts from last year for NT.

Stewart 56%

Stallworth 25%

So about 80ish%. Maybe they are trying to get Stewart down a bit lower.

Here's the guys in the NT stack currently.

Stewart 6-4 / 315

Woods 6-1 / 310

Stallworth 6-2 / 305

Williams 6-2 / 302

That's not to say we can't play two of the 4 above at the same time, or none of them can play 3T, it's just we don't see it much. Not even sure we saw it on goal line or xx down and inches.

Just a little surprised we kept 4 of the guys with NT size (300+), and not other prototypical 3T (Buckner for instance is 6-7 / 295).

Maybe one of those guys are the next Grady Jarret type (6-0 / 305) beast. I've met him several times, and he doesn't look 305 though.

Surprised Wentz is not vaccinated yet and thought Eason could managed the game a little better in the preseason, especially didn't throw a touchdown.

4. Name two cut players you hope make it to the PS

 Andrew Brown and Sean Davis

5. What are you most happy about?

No serious injuries to the #1 running back

6.What are you most unhappy about?

Wentz not starting(mayibe), not getting enough practice time and showing the stuff he was traded for.

I'd you think willis at SS is more than fine, I'm not seeing the concern at FS?

Pretty simple. We don't ask much of SS. It's more or less a coverage LB for us staying close to LOS and in the flat. Willis does a good job of what he's asked to do.

Blackmon is asked to do a lot more in both our C3 and quarters/C6, and he struggles in coverage.
