thanks @EastStreet! Looks pretty solid. I would have probably kept Andrew Brown over Antwuan Woods, but it's mostly how I thought. Cutting Shawn Davis is a bit of a shock, though they want him on the practice squad. I also think they may get rid of Dulin or send him to the PS once Hilton returns.

Yup.

I'm still thinking through things... The dust hasn't settled all the way...

My thoughts in my spinning brain right now...

  • I liked Brown over Woods, Stallworth, and Williams...
  • All in all, 11 is a lot at DL.... gotta think that gets trimmed once Lewis is back.
  • I'm OK with cutting Shawn Davis as I think he'll make it to the PS. I like his upside long term.
  • I'm still going with Dulin over Patmon, that is, unless they let Patmon play a Z like role, or run two bigs on the outside in general. I did pick Dulin and Patmon in the roster game though lol.
  • I'm happy Rochell made it, even though it may be only temporary.
  • Surprised we're keeping 6.5 CBs (Chachere playing NB3 and FS2) and only 3.5 SAFs.

I like the roster. Shawn Davis missed too many tackles and wasn’t fundamentally sound in technique. I hit it pretty much on the head with the exception the Matt Pryor trade. Couple notes: DB flexibility with both Tel and Chachere but don’t forget Glasgow can some SS as well. The OG position is a solid strength and keep in mind that Q can bump out to LT is necessary in the short term.

I had that thought too.

Given Blackmon's coverage struggles last year, might be a good option. But Chachere looked pretty good, but I'm not sure if he was playing FS at NB (when he looked good lol).

I don't think it will happen early, but I think RYS is a candidate for conversion to SAF too if things don't work out at CB2

As a fan I was hoping they would have kept Kaufusi(I definitely think he was the best linebacker in the 3 preseason games). Quite frankly it's a bit of a head scratcher they kept Glasgnow over Kaufusi. And I would have kept Andrew Brown at dt. There were a lot of tough decisions to get this roster to 53, but it looks good.

Yup.

I don't recall noticing Glasgow at all.

Kaufusi seemed to make play after play.

IDK. Perhaps they didn't play Glasgow that much because they already had him locked in.

RYS doesn't have the speed, IMO

Glasgow was banged up, seems like they played him last game to make sure he was ready. Kaufusi was cut shortly before they knew the covid would allow them 3 extra bodies from what I gather, IF they knew he likely would have stayed and a bubble player (Chris Williams or Tyler Stallworth likely would hve been cut. Very bad timing. Kaufusi's one cousin was cut today Bronson (TE-Green Bay a favorite of Aaron Rodgers), maybe grab both for P.S. if they fall through

I was surprised banogu made it though. I think he’s on shaky ground

You didn't watch the pre-season. Banogu looked great.

I thought I did watch it.  wasn’t he playing at the end of the lions game? I thought it was him and he wasn’t showing much.

ive been wrong before.  A lot.   I’m rooting for him and hope I’m wrong again.

We brought in OT Roderick Johnson today for a workout on the day of all of these cuts.   That tells me we are not done with the OL.  I’m expecting us to sign Johnson and cut Fries with the intent to put him on the PS.  I think Fisher comes off the pup list and goes active as soon as he clears Covid.

Man I really think is team is really solid. Some superstars, players who could become beer super stars. Very very good depth. I just hope Red Wentz is the answer. If he goes we go.

I'd expect at least two waiver claims by tomorrow. I'd guess another CB, there are a few that were cut that I do like. As well as a 3rd QB for covid reasons, unless Ehlinger isn't hurt to long. Wouldn't shock me to see a other OL as well.

I think we grab one of the QB's put Sam on ir then flip their spots after 3-4 games when Sam is ready.  I can see a Corner replacing Tell then trying to get Marvel through waivers to practice squad. We arent sure when Carrie is coming back either just yet.

I think he might have had a few bad plays or even a bad game, but he did well the other two games.

Some interesting movements from all Clubs to get teams under the required roster cap.  A few DB's released that am hoping the Colts might try to pursue are Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Karl Joseph, and Nickell Robey-Coleman.  Some other names might be of interest are OT Tyrell Crosby, LB Josh Bynes, and DE Christian Miller.

Hard telling what the internal logic is. Just hope he makes the PS. Kid just seemed to have a nose for the ball. I think he'd be one of those fan-favorite STs type of guys.

I'm optimistic about the O, optimistic about the DL, but cautious about LB and DB.

Gonna be fun!

He moved to Reserve Pup. Here are the rules

"However, those rules are different once the regular season begins. If a player is designated for the PUP list at the start of the season, the NFL's rules dictate that he must sit out for at least six weeks. Then, teams will have a window of five weeks to decide whether that player can start practicing. If he does not practice within those five weeks, or isn't activated to the 53-man roster within 21 days after he begins practicing again, the player will have the stay placed on the PUP list for the rest of the season."

Eberflus on Shawn Davis... Sounds like perhaps a dig on Davis???

"I think that hurt him a little bit," Eberflus said. "He's learning our way, how to do things. I think that takes time in terms of our hustle, our intensity, taking it away and being smart, those things that we covet. So he's a work in progress and he's working that way."

meh.

he's got better speed and agility than Willis and Tell (comparative RAS) and similar to Odom and Morore (combine) and Blackmon (pre-combine measurements).

That's what I meant.  He would not be bringing any significant better speed or athleticism than what we already have several times over.  We need the single high or back end speedy guy more than another duplicate.

IMO, RYS gets burned deep a lot because he runs out of speed.  Maybe he's got enough speed that if he's starting from 10 yards further back than he has been it doesn't matter.

He looked the part 2H of 2019. Speed wasn't an issue.

Need him to either get back to that, or try him somewhere else.

IMO, he'd be a great SS or perhaps FS option. NB too, but we don't need him there with Kenny/Carrie/Chachere.

He's got a lot of good traits. Just need him to develop at CB, or find the right fit.

He's a duplicate of what we have in abundance.  We need the single high FS who can drop down and do other safety things from time to time competently (unlike Hooker did them).  Or the zone S who can switch to single high competently from time to time without a personnel change.  I was hoping that would be Shawn Davis.

RYSs best attributes are his tough attitude and physicality/scrappiness.  I think he should be strictly a #2 zone corner who is assigned to cover the opponents X or bully slot in a limited zone space.  Beyond that he gets beat.  JMO.

But I don't like our DBs that well overall.  They get by, and a better pass rush will help.  The only safety I like is Blackmon, only because he's around the ball.  But I think he's not big enough to be SS.  His body won't match his playing style, unfortunately.

Speaking of Hooker, he made the Cowboys roster.

Good for him/them.

I think our secondary should always play Tamps Cover 2 when the D is not blitzing.  The front seven can blitz more than under Dungy, but the idea of switching from zone to man means that, with man coverage, your DBs now have to be athletic and fast as well as scrappy and good tacklers like in zone.

Finding DBs with that level of versatile talent is difficult, and I think our roster shows it.

I really just want to see Flus adapt to what we can and cannot do.   If we can get pressure on the QB, the rest of the defense will be able to be successful in most schemes.
