By what metrics?

I get being concerned/worried. There are a lot of unknowns, and a lot left to be proved. I asked the question initially because to some, it's a foregone conclusion that the defense is going to start the season playing poorly.

I think we were bottom in the league in pressures.

I just checked the stats in pass-coverage and they are better than I assumed. I stand corrected. I thought we were bottom 10 of the league in completion % allowed, pass yards per game allowed, etc. But they all seem kind of average(in the 15-20 range rather than in the bottom 10).

I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that the defense is going to be bad... but I also don't have huge confidence it will be good. I think there is plenty to worry about.

I think Paye will be mostly a pass rush specialist at first. Turay as well. Lewis and Muhammad should start. Rochelle should fit in somewhere.

I don't think Houston and Autry were good pass rushers. They got the sacks because someone had to, but it won't be hard to replicate their rush. Turay and Paye have much more upside at this point, IMO. I think any impact to the defense would be felt more in the run game, not the pass rush. In all, I think the DL should be fine, potentially better if Turay gets going.

I like Okereke, I'm eager to see him step up. There are questions at corner, but that's kind of the same as last year, and mostly dependent on the pass rush.

Just seems like people are convinced the defense is going to start out rough, I guess because we lost Autry, Houston, and Walker. I didn't see those guys as difference makers, and I think their replacements can fill their shoes without too much trouble. What we really need is for their replacements to be better than they were, and I assume that's the hope from the staff. Turay/Paye should be better than Houston/Autry, Okereke should be better than Walker (overall; Walker brought a lot to the table, but had limitations in pass defense).

We'll see what happens.

Lewis/Paye/ Turay should be better at pressuring the QB.
If Rochelle or someone steps us up inside for Grover on passing downs, we should be a formidable pass rushing D.

The only difference is the pass rush. If it's the same, that's not good. If it's better, the pass defense can be better. I doubt it will be worse, but we do have a tougher schedule.

There’s MIKE too.  Hopefully that coverage will be better.

I think our rush will be worse to start the season,  Turay is the key.  We’ve seen some flashes but obviously still a wild card.

That is the true issue. We might start out better on D but may or may not have the results to show for it.

Rams, Ravens, Seahawks have all been stout vs the run and the Rams, Ravens stout vs the pass too. 49ers and Dolphins, when healthy, aren't slouches either and we know what kind of trench play the Titans will bring on their offensive side.

So, our D has to keep us in several of those games if we need to have chances to win. Playing the NFC West and AFC East in the last 2 years has gotten tougher, and add to it the SB champs as our 17th game. We will be underdogs in several games and hopefully the underdog mentality gives us the additional chip on our shoulders that we need. If Wentz and the offense are middle of the road, it will be a long season. If we are a Top 10 offense, we can hit double digit wins.

Yeah I don’t like that look. I love Darius as a player but his personality can rub me the wrong way sometimes.

Yeah I don't see how that helps with the contract negotiations.

I love D too, as a player and personality. I just hate when folks whine on Twitter lol.... And I have little sympathy for millionaires airing stuff because they want more sooner.... He needs to relax. He'll get paid.

I like fun personalities. Darius can just be a little to much for me. Just a little too much of a rough personality for me.

It didn’t help but I don’t think it really impacts them in anyway.  I don’t think the Colts are going to go oh Darius said we haven’t gotten this deal done fast enough on Twitter so let’s let him walk.  It’s just useless noise that won’t impact talks one way or another.
