you are forgetting that Pat Mac is our best special teams tackler at the moment.

If he punted better he wouldn't have to make any tackles. See how that works. You work with the team you have. You realize our weaknesses and you play within them even if it means a shorter punt. He may get brownie points for saving a few tds and being a dork (who doesn't like dorks) but that doesn't make him a great punter.

it was supposed to be a joke..but alright. I don't think you can blame missed tackles on the last guy down the field. He puts plenty of air under the ball and still gets about 50 yards /kick. He was the 8th best punter in the league in 2011 stats according to NFL's site. I'm not saying he's the best but we surely have other needs wouldn't you agree?

Pat better stay, the man is a monster(boomstick) and us fans love him!

I personally think this is for if Pat takes over for field goals and Vinny retires/wants too much money. I'd like to see them both stay though personally

I agree. He is a good punter and I see no reason to spend a draft pick on one. UDFA to push him...thats fine with me.

Ok this answer my main question of whether McAfee had proven himself worthy of place kicking! Thought all this talk about him switching to place kicker was just mere optimism, but looks possible.

That is nice...with no team rushing him and no pressure. If that was something he could do regularly and consistantly we would be using him. Please lets end the Pat for place kicker deal. Until he comes into a game and kicks one for us lets just let him work on being a better punter.

At West Virginia he was both the punter and place kicker. He was 17-20 his senior year, including 6-7 from 40+, and his career long was 52 yards.

I'm not saying the Colts are planning on him kicking any field goals or taking over AV's spot, just saying that he is an experienced PK at the college level so it isn't just foolish conjecture to suggest he could be a PK at the pro level.

I am aware of his college history. He was solid. It was simply the 75 yard kick that led me to say give it a rest. He isn't going to come in and do that. Not likely even 60 yarders because of he field position and percentages. All I was saying is that we rarely even have Adam kick greater than 50 yarders unless in doors. If the team really had any faith at all in Pat they would bring him in situationally...and they never have...even at the end of a half.

Pat has expressed his ambition to be the first punter , kick off and field goal specialist in the history of NFL (I am pretty sure somebody has fulfilled that role before).

Mcafee also talks about himself like he's a real qb because he was the emergency qb. I love pat but I've noticed what he often thinks of himself isnt how the colts see him. I don't think he will get to do all three because it will wear out your leg real fast. Now I could see them moving pat to kicker at some point and drafting a new punter.

He was 11 of 24 from beyond 40 before his senior year. That could mean one of two things he had great senior year or he grew as a kicker. I don't know which but I would want to make darn sure it was the later before we made him our kicker.
