Chris Ballard draft conspiracy report

I was reading this this morning, and it was actually a great read. It uses Ballards words and actions over the last few years to try and determine who and what positions we will go throughout the draft. Very well written, and a great use of evidence. It's a long read, but worth checking out IMO!

Let me know what you think, and lets discuss it below!

Good stuff. I might disagree with a couple elements, but the idea that Ballard is pretty straightforward and transparent is something that I've been saying for a couple years now. Doesn't mean we can always predict exactly what he's gonna do, but we can usually go back and see that the clues he drops are pretty obvious.

Last year, he said 'I think we're ready to add some veterans.' Signed Rivers, traded a first for Buckner.

The previous year, he said 'I love them picks.' He traded back from #26, and was active throughout the draft, making ten picks by the time it was over.

Continually, Ballard and the entire staff talk about "football character." (It was a big theme in the latest video.) They continue to draft players who were team captains, lunch pail guys who seem to love to practice, play and work hard.

After the 2019 season, Ballard made some comments about getting better with injuries. Almost every player they signed or drafted had a strong track record of not missing games due to injury -- Rivers, Buckner, Pittman, Taylor, Carrie, Rhodes, etc.

I don't spend a lot of time trying to predict what's gonna happen, but I think someone who does could get a good indication of how Ballard values certain players and positions, and could probably easily eliminate a lot of players the Colts wouldn't consider adding. And it doesn't take a genius to see that Ballard wants to make more than six picks this weekend.

A good read,  I have to like it because I've been thinking along the same lines the last few days.

He's got Radunz, Brown (although has some injury history), Leatherwood in the OT mix.  Basham and Ellerson Smith at DE, and ST Juste and Rochell at corner.  And Tremble at TE, with TE being a bit of a target.  Probably a trade down, then an OT early and one late.  A TE, a corner.  Its nice to see the author thinks Ballard is not discounting ILB and S.

I've  felt Ballard's intentions are not terribly difficult to read if you take his comments as sincere and combine them with big picture moves like who he's signed, resigned or not, and who he has drafted recently.

You realize the writer does this most every year.    It's mostly tongue in cheek.     It's done for fun.

If he's right,  I seriously doubt he's connected dots.    More like saying it's 12 o'clock now.   Sooner or later,  he's going to be right.

Of course it's done for fun. Judging by the bolded, I'm guessing you didn't read the article or you would of seen the main purpose is to connect dots. Read the article, and get back to me.

I also agreed with the sentiment that Ballard is a bit less about the smoke and mirrors than others. When he talks about what he likes in players or positions he may like to attack, I think that's what he really hopes to do. But it's not like he's fully transparent. No one really saw the Buckner trade coming.
