if wentz goes out for the season then what?

We'll have a #1 pick in 2022. :D

..... and if we trade this years #1 or maybe our #2 for a #1 in 2022 we'll have 2 number 1's in 2022!!!

Isn't this the exact same question the fan bases for all 32 teams are always asking?

What happens to our season if our starting quarterback goes down?

Right now the answer is Jacob Eason.

We can still sign a veteran in the next few months.   Or, the likelihood if Eason does poorly in the pre-season we’d either do a trade for a backup, or, we’d claim a QB who got waived or asked for his release.

There are answers to your question even if we don’t know them today.

i wouldn't be too upset to see Eason under center in that scenario. We wouldn't win the SB with any other backup QB anyways.

Yup. I'd have zero problem with it.

If you have zero chance of a SB with another FA QB, which we wouldn't, might as well sink or swim with Eason.

At worst, we'd have a good draft pick, and know Eason isn't the answer.

Then we keep our 1st round pick next year, start Eason, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Hopefully it doesn't happen though (it'll usually happen to 1 or 2 teams a year, just have to avoid random, bad luck).

What if I told you...

This thread was all just a figment of your imagination?

The fever-dream of a delusional so-called Colts fan trolling the masses for reactions...

I'm not down on Eason being the backup but I'm not up on him being the backup either. We just need to see him play then make a judgement on him being the backup but not until then.

That should happen in training camp and preseason this year. Lets hope for the best!

CB trades for Nick Foles and we win the Super Bowl!  Statue goes up beside Peyton's next year. And Wentz needs a psychiatrist.

By the way- I think Wentz is going to fine this year, and the Colts will be Contenders.

More serviceable  backup QBs this time of year than I have seen in a long time and fully expect we bring one in. I'm hoping Nick Mullens, 16 starts over last 3 seasons, young, can contribute in  pinch if Eason isnt ready.

We will all dead then and it really won't matter what happens after that lol. Wentz will be the least of my concerns

Oh man...that would just be cruel.

I mean...any player can end up out for the season.

But I think this is partly why there is a condition to the pick. Not that Wentz is injury-prone necessarily, but it has happened twice.

If that unfortunately did happen again...I imagine that would be the end of the Wentz experiment in Indy. Even if the next season were to go much better...you can't really commit to a QB, who in 5 seasons, ended up on IR 3x and was benched another time. Just too many unknowns.

But I don't think it's going to happen...unless it's a very fluky thing.

Taylor steps in at QB and passes for 4000 yards and rushes for 1200 yards.   He leads the team to the Superbowl and beats Brady and Tampa.

I love these hypotheticals.

    • You're probably right.  But a franchise LT is the more important position.  More than RT, and even an All Pro LB.   I'm not saying he'll sacrifice either of them in order to sign Fisher long term.  But I think that once they see that Fisher can play, they'll want to wrap him up long term.  He won't be cheap either.   I think it was on one of the podcast they pointed out where all of the LTs for the playoff teams were drafted.  Getting one that works out past the first round is pretty rare.  And we probably won't even have a first rounder next year.
    • That's possible, and sounds familiar. So how many plays might that happen on in a given game, and how many players are affected by it? Ultimately, what kind of impact could it have on a player grade if PFF throws out 5-10 plays a game?   Also, if a player was nursing a left leg injury, and used a different technique than usual to try to mitigate that injury, in turn taking a loss on a few plays, PFF grades them negatively. Which is fine. But that might result in a player having a month of lower grading than usual, with PFF not acknowledging the injury in their grading. They publish those lower grades, and fans/media say 'this player had a bad month at the end of last season, he's not a hot free agent.' Team X says 'he's outstanding when he's healthy, and he battled through injury, let's give him a huge contract,' and the response is 'PFF says he's not that good, that's a bad contract.'    Nothing wrong with PFF's grade, he did have a bad month. But they have a blind spot to context in their raw grading. And people who consume their grades have a tendency to quote them as if they are definitive. That's my overall point about their grading, and why it's not as valuable to me as it seems to be to others.
    • The media picked up the Fisher news yesterday when they had the film session with Ballard.  Ballard said they want to do a long term deal once Fisher proves he can come back from his injury.  Don’t look for anything soon.  Honestly I expect Leonard and Smith extensions before the season starts and Fisher at some point in the season if he comes back.  If they can’t get one done in season it wouldn’t shock me to see the Colts tag him and then do one if he recovers.
    • Of course they were drafted to be 3 down lineman, so their ability to run 20-30 yards or more sideline to sideline to fill gaps and make plays may prove vital numerous times per game..
    • I point to it because it keeps happening. And now Sharp's breakdown makes it clear that it's not just in my mind. The Colts are near the bottom in multiple categories. (But again, it's not a market/popularity thing. In fact, some of the teams that have been really bad for a long time are near the top, suggesting it's kind of the opposite.)   To structured scheduling, I think you could get a week of all division matchups. I believe they've done it at times in the past, usually toward the end of the season (especially after 2009). But I do think you undersell the difficulty of shared venues with other events. The teams/admins that own those venues want to host as many events as possible, outside of the 8-12 football games they have every year. That's another 40 weekends they can have a convention, concert, whatever.   Not sure what you mean about flex scheduling. They're not flexing games between days, just times. (Right? Did that change and I missed it?) And there are teams that have solo stadiums, but shared parking (like the Ravens/Orioles, and that caused an issue with the 2013 opener), or other weird little exceptions that the schedule makers have to account for. Late December games in Buffalo, early September games in Florida, etc., and how often visiting teams are subjecting to those potential extremes, should be factored in. There's a lot.   But they could do a Rivalry Week every year. I think one week could be done. Ravens/Steelers, Packers/Bears, Giants/Cowboys, Pats/Jets, etc. I don't really think the Colts have a division rivalry, but I guess it would be the Texans?    As for AZ, I'm actually in SoCal. I just didn't have the bandwidth to type a response last night. They added some good players, whether they can still perform at a high level is questionable. I think Watt is still good. Green, depends on Kyler Murray, which is kind of the only thing that matters with AZ right now, whether he can step up.
