Round 1 Thread

( @NFLfan please pin)

GMs,

Info and Rules, as well as your time slot for tomorrow - Please read

  • Draft will start 7pm on Monday (tomorrow evening).
  • The plan is to do do minimum 5 rounds, Mon-Fri. If we have good participation, we may do 6 and 7 on Mon and Tues of next week.
  • Each GM has a 5 minute draft window that is pre-scheduled (see below). If you miss your window, we will drop your pick to one of the 3 scheduled breaks where you can make your pick. If you are still absent, we will pick the best player available that meets one of your primary needs ( https://thedraftnetwork.com/team-needs). You can also PM Chad and I with your preferred picks or strategy if you fear you might miss your window. Chad will be in charge of making missed picks for absent GMs.
  • We will have a dedicated trade thread moderated by Chad - All trade rules will be posted there. Please read the first post if you plan on trading.
  • We will have a locked and dedicated big board and draft pick/order thread moderated and updated real time by NFLfan. Please check this thread to see updated BPA and/or to see who's picked who.

Trade rules

  • All trades must be approved by Chad in designated trade thread.
  • Only pick-for-pick trades will be allowed during the draft hours.
  • All personnel-for-pick trades must be pre-negotiated with the other GM and submitted to Chad in the designated trade thread by 6pm (one hour prior to draft)
  • No trades for future picks

Here we go!!!!   With the 26th pick in the draft, the Colts were looking at a few different names. With major needs at LT and DE, the team scoured those positions for prospects.

With the 19th pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, the Washington Football Team selects...   Teven Jenkins, Offensive Tackle from Oklahoma State.    @EastStreet and the Chicago Bears are on th

I'm selecting someone for the Titans that is a great scheme fit, a guy who should provide great pass rush, and was an absolute beast in Georgia. I don't want him on the Colts because of scheme fit, bu

Also, @JoeThornburg wanted to take on the Arizona Cardinals, if I remember him saying that. You can update the Cardinals with his name. @JoeThornburg - is that still the case? Please confirm.

@EastStreet - FYI.

I changed it and updated the draft order reflecting the trade between KC and Tennessee.

I have to sign out to start working. I will check back in 4 or so hours.

You could trade out of that position. If you trade down then you can make your first pick for Tampa tomorrow at an earlier time slot. Just an idea.

Obvious, but great pick. Would have loved to have had him on Miami.

Why would you give one of the Colts rivals such a talented potential QB in the division? I don't get it. :( I'm choosing K.J. Costello all day long here! haha

Hope @BProland85 shows up and the 49ers, whose pick is much awaited, do not move back in line. It would be a bummer of a start to the draft.

He'll fall to the mini-break at 740

I don't think he sent me any picks? Did he send you some?

@jvan1973

You're on the clock

@stitches on deck -- I have his picks if he doesn't show

With all the draft capital the Jags and Jets have, both have have a quick turnaround.

I think Jax will be quicker. I just have little faith in the Jets.

I have some faith in the Jets with Joe Douglas as GM and Robert Saleh as the HC. The Jets may of had the worst GM/HC combo in the NFL for a short time in McCagnan and Gase. Their first draft with Douglas was respectable, and I'd have to imagine that almost any qualified HC would be better than Adam Gase.

Again though, it'll depend on how Zach Wilson or whichever QB they select does for them. They certainly have enough picks for the next two years to build around him.

Did he ever trade the pick? He mentioned it.

Let me know if I am doing everything the way you want it on the other thread.

    • at Baltimore on MNF   The losses I originally voted on are  at Titans at Ravens at Bills at Cardinals at Jags   But I've changed my vote on at Titans to a W thus far in my deep dive.  Toss up though. At Jags could be changed to a W too, but we all know our history vs Jax.... lol
    • I can see the Colts being as high as two, but also failing to make the playoffs altogether.  I'm deep diving the schedule now, and through the first 6 games. First 5 are tough, last 4 are easy, middle is up and down. If we do well early, the sky could be the limit. Or we could tank from there.   Wentz, Fisher, Campbell, and our D stepping up or back are all major narratives.    I could see both the Bills and Baltimore being as high as 2 or as low as 7.   Patriots added a lot. All depends on QB for them. If QB works out, we know they'll run and play D well. Just hard to bet on QB at this point, but wouldn't be shocked to see them win the division over Buffalo and Miami.    Browns are the Browns, but they've got a really really solid team. Large range there too.
    • It's close to the same stack I'd put out there given all the pushes and pulls. I believe that list they published was based on 1000s of simulations.  That doesn't mean it's correct, just means it's the most plausable.
    • I've looked pretty deep at the roster in Philly over his tenure there. Aside from having a good OL until 2020, Philly's roster just wasn't that great. WRs were pretty meh IMO. Some decent names, but they just weren't consistent and didn't produce like other WRs in the league. Ertz led them in yardage just about every year. Sure he's great, but when a TE is your leader every year, that says something... They never really had a dominant running game or RB. Decent rushing totals a few years, but the numbers were better than reality. Not sure they had a 1000 yard or go-to RB in all the years Wentz was there. 2017 was a weird year, and I think because of that, folks think Philly's roster was better than it really was.    In short, we all know Luck was the better prospect. But Luck had Reggie and TY day one. And he also came into a well established passing O. RB wise, Indy wasn't really a running team but they did try to add TR and later FG. Their identity was never going to be running though. One could say giving Luck Philly's OL would have put him over the top. One could also say giving Wentz Reggie and TY would have done the same.    The real conversation will come after the season. IMO, I'd put my money on Wentz having close to a 2017 or 2019 season. For the first time, he'll be asked to do less (like Rivers was). Our OL should be top 10. If Campbell stays healthy, our WR unit will be top 10. Our RB room will be top 5. Our O should look conservative early, but capable. Later in the year, not so conservative.
    • That means this whole thread was a lie....
