Someone brought up a interesting scenerio for TE. If Ballard trades down and gets a extra pick he might be able to use that to get Ertz. With only six picks he probably doesn’t want to use ond on him but if he can pick up a extra one maybe we do trade for him. Burton played with Wentz so if it comes down to it we can bring him back.

I think Ertz winds up with Colts somehow.  If not then Burton is the logical add at TE.

Receiver could be the pick in the first or second round if someone falls who Ballard likes. Otherwise, it will be a later pick or picks who can hopefully surprise a bit. TE seems to be a position with a lot of different "sources". It could be a FA. It could be a late round choice or UFA who is a great athlete with limited football experience.

Anyone else have a feeling the colts are waiting on Patmon to emerge before we draft another one? Remember he was on our roster not practice squad last year .That tells me Ballard is high on him

I want Patmon to develop as I love his traits, but doubt they use him as Z or slot, which is what we need (with Pittman solid at X).

If he could learn to play to his size (the biggest ? about him in the draft) and also run great routes, then perhaps he could play a little Z or slot, but he really doesn't fit the profile right now. It would be great having Patmon and Pittman on the field at the same time though. Especially in the RZ.

That would not surprise me a bit. This would be a typical Ballard/Reich move. Get a guy we know and like at a position we don't want to use a lot draft capital to fill.

I am as gung-ho about drafting WRs as anybody...but unless they trade back and recoup some draft picks...I don't see them drafting one very early. I think that pick is ticketed for TE (even if they can get Ertz after the draft).

So they will have Ertz, Doyle and MAC...and then a rookie TE developing. We will see a lot of 12 personnel next season...until Wentz proves he can open it up without turning the ball over. Maybe that happens sooner than later...but WR does not seem to be a focus this offseason...and I think this is why.

This is a "vulnerable WR group".

Though TY is one my favorite colts, his best days are behind him. He's been often injured or slowed down by nagging injuries that his production is not to be counted on.

So far, Campbell's best days are still at Ohio St. His availability is questionable.

Pittman,  a good solid receiver, currently our best going forward.  But so far I consider him a number #2 type not in the category of the league's elite.

Pascal is a solid player, but I'd like him more of a #4 on depth chart so he's not relied too much upon incase of injuries to others.

The rest are unproven and hopefully aren't relied upon if a team has SB aspirations.

The Colts need a WR that can be a gamechanger and open up the playbook for others.

Though with this probably being TY's last season, we could use a draft pick for maybe a average receiver in a later round, we really need one that's more elite than average.

Yeah I agree its like betting on a QB in the 6th round to breakout & become the G.O.A.T  its not a smart idea .

Tom Brady & the Patriots & Buccaneers proved you wrong before you even posted .

Patriots didn't bet on Brady, they had Bledsoe when he was drafted.

That group is much better than the tattered remnants that Wentz had to throw to last year.

A few of things to consider.  There will be a training camp and pre-season for Wentz to get acquainted with his receivers.  Rivers wasn't afforded that last year.  Pittman Jr. looks to be an Alpha, imo, and I love to see that he and Patmon have already worked out with Wentz and Eason.  TY, just has to be the crafty veteran that he is and he will be fine.  He too worked out with Wentz, I love it!  Lastly, I have a feeling that this is the year Campbell stays relatively healthy and how can you not love Pascal?  He only straps his work boots on, grabs his lunchbox and puts his hard hat on, he is ready to do the little things that stats don't show.

Agree entirely.  Too many unknowns.  This would be the year to take one with such a strong class.  TY was a third and we know how that turned out.  Pretty great.  I think we should definitely draft a WR this year.

Round three sounds right.  I see a trade back in the first in the near future!

Is everyone forgetting we signed JJ Nelson back in February?  Isn’t he a speed guy.

Yeah that in his best season (2016), only received for 568 yards.

Also last played for the Raiders in 2019, With 4 catches total the entire season...

I don’t expect him to be some miracle but from what I understand he has a lot of potential.

I think our WR group is fine. With the running backs we have this is a very potent offense. We do need to add a move TE at some point. We should of tried to get one in FA. There were some good ones out there.

The issue with Nelson is he's limited due to size. His height is fine (5-10), but he's only like 160lbs. Hilton is small (same height) but 25ish lbs heavier. Harris is shorter, but heavier. Potential, yes, but limited role. I'd love to see him in returns or as a deep specialist with his speed. Doubt he could hold up at slot, so he's pretty much limited to Z.

Agree about the TE.  I’m still hoping for Ertz.

I’m okay with the current WR situation for 2021, as the Colts have more pressing needs to address.

As far as Patmon, I’m about as optimistic with him as I was with D. Cain and R. Fountain contributing.

What makes Patmon better than those two? :sigh:

For 1, Patmon hasn't had a major injury (at least not yet) like Cain (knee tear) and Fountain (broken ankle) had early in their careers.  For 2, Patmon has better size (6'4" 225 lbs.) compared to 6'2" 205-210 lbs for Cane and Fountain.

JJ Nelson's best season was in 2016 when he had 34 catches for 568 yards.  In 2017 he had his next best season with 29 catches for 508 yards.  He's a speedy guy, but he was released in October 2019 by the Raiders and wasn't signed until August 2020 and he spent some time last year with the Bills practice squad.  He's nothing to get excited about as a WR.  Also, I don't think he's any faster or shiftier than I. Rodgers so doubt he's going to oust him as a return guy.  My best guess is that JJ Nelson is a camp body who won't be on our opening day roster..

That is an extremely solid WR group that is more than adequate.  If our running game, defense and coaches do their jobs as well the Colts will make some noise. Time for Ballards draft picks to step up bc it’s their time to shine. I’m very excited about Pittman, Campbell and Patmon.

ballard probably thinks his wr draft picks will be elite talent and will roll with them
