I love TY and all but he was showing some decline and if his deal is similar or not much cheaper than better younger receivers in FA I'll be a lil bummed lol

I’ll say up front, I could easily be wrong on this, but given his trend line the last few years, if we bring back TYH, I’d say our receivers would be Pittman-1, Campbell, if he can stay healthy, 2, Hilton-3 and Pascal-4.

Of course this is subject to change due to health plus who we might add in the draft.

I actually agree with this I also happen to really like Campbell unlike alot of people. guess I'm just gonna wait and see what Juju gets I know everyone here isn't a fan but I like the guy and I think he is a great #2 with possible #1 upside the dancing don't mean much to me either but I get people not liking it lol

I recall recently making an argument in favor of this arrangement.  Something about "Occam's Razor"  :)

I like Juju too, but think he’s still going to be too pricey, even if it’s less than what was predicted ($15per).   The guy who I think might appeal to us with his speed is Curtis Samuel.   He can do a lot of everything and his price might still be in our ballpark.

Of course, bringing back Hilton would likely end our interest for any other FA WR.    This is only if Hilton doesn’t return.

Sorry, not sure I follow?

Not sure if you’re telling me that you and I agree?   Or,  if I was the poster who said Occam’s Razor?   Because it wasn’t me.

I think that's a good guess on the order. I would love for Campbell to stay healthy, but at this point, it would be a bonus if he does. I'm not even counting on him. I would say Pittman 1, Hilton 2, Pascal 3, and slot in Campbell anywhere in between when he's healthy.

I think T.Y. can still be very good with the right QB -- someone willing to throw the deep ball. Otherwise, T.Y. is asked mainly to run crossing routes and comeback routes. He's too small to consistently win on those routes, giving the impression that he's not as good as he used to be. With Wentz, I think teams will respect the fact that T.Y. can beat them over the top and Wentz can buy time in the pocket to deliver the deep pass.

He should start taking the disclaimer out of the tweet or not tweet at all.  Just tweet it and let it stand on its own.

LOL, I'm saying I agree.

In another thread that was discussing whether we should sign this receiver or that one, or what to trade in order to get this or that result, to match up the X, Z, and slot positions, I stated that I stood with Occam's Razor: the simplest solution is usually the correct one.  If we simply signed TY, we would have Pittman, Hilton, Campbell, Pascal as our top four, and they would naturally fill those positions logically.

You and I are sympatico.  Just do it the easy way.

https://coltscap.com/the-truth-about-extending-the-colts-key-young-players/

this was a fun piece to read about the cap and our extensions.

Bottom line: we could definitely do extensions to Leonard and Smith and even Hines right now paying them top dollar and it would leave us with cap now and still roughly $50M next year w Nelson’s fifth year option.

We can spend if we want to. Unless it is a cash issue w Irsay.

im not saying we will or even that we should. But again it is a lazy, tired narrative to say we can’t sign any outside free agents just because we have extensions on the horizon.

Man, took a shower and was like, hell yeah 18 new post. Something happened....

sad arrested development GIF

Its pretty much been what I expected. Re-sign as many of our own as possible and maybe get a couple mid tier FAs.

Our own:

Pascal

Cox

Odum

Mack

Stallworth

Dulin

Also:(back from Covid opt out)

Tell III

Moore

Need to finish off TY, Rhodes and Houston though hopefully

If we can bring those 3 back for $24m or under we would still have a little money to play with. Very possible, especially with how contracts are playing out right now.

Waiver claim on DL from Texans, probably not a top 51 salary right now.

Will say $40m left at moment.(estimate)

Draft picks that count top 51(3) amount to $4.2m - $2.4m(players falling off of top 51)

$1.8m top 51 cap hit.

$38m left.

-$24m (3) resigns above

$14m-$15m top 51

Riley Rieff $8m

Would leave us with $6-$7m left and around 80-81 players on roster. A few UDFA and another couple cheap FAs.

Edit:(×2)

Oh yeah and traded for hopefully our QB for next 5-7yrs.

It’s definitely still early on in FA but I get everyone’s frustration.

if we do re-sign TY and Rhodes then basically we are replacing Rivers w Wentz and losing Castonzo, Autry, Houston (possibly) and Walker (likely). And without an infusion of outside FAs we’d basically be banking that our draft class would have to be the only thing that improves the roster over last year. That’s with some other competitive teams making solid additions (KC-OL, Cleveland-DB, Tenn-DL, etc).

so here’s hoping that now that prices have come down and we still have cap space maybe we clean up w 3-5 solid outside players that fit the scheme and our cost.

I don't buy all that Rivers was fine for us

Bringing in Rivers was a success, but we were limited in certain ways.  One of TYs best plays - quick pass/WR screen.  Phil's ball took so damn long to get out there, they pretty much stopped throwing it.  There are things that can be done better.

I just hope I don't have to read everyone complaining and attacking TY if he is slowing down and showing his decline when he is not what everyone expects

I don't think anyone is expecting him to lead the league in receiving.

Ok...    you and I typically agree, but we don’t here.   This will be a very long response, sorry.

First, it is neither lazy, nor tired, because that implies the information is easy to understand and readily available.  Neither of which are true.   There is one handful of fans here who understand this material - one hand — with a few fingers left over.   The first time I ever heard of Colts cap was your post.   Otherwise people rely on Spotrac and Over the Cap.   And many fans here don’t bother with that info.

Second, having read the info, I’m not yet convinced the writer proves the point.  The writer builds most of the case of the Colts affording it in 2022 when the cap is expected to go up.

But he doesn’t say much in 2021 other than the deals for Leonard, Smith and Hines will only cost the Colts $8.5 mill this year.  Again, his assumptions.

But he makes zero mention of what the Colts are still trying to do.  Sign some of the most expensive positions in the sport...   LT, DEx2, WR, CB1, plus bring back whatever players Ballard wants.   And he makes no mention that we started today with $39m.  Then signed Mack, so we’re at $37.  Subtract the $8.5 for the Big 3, and now we’re at $28.5.   Now factor the money we won’t spend to have money for in-season moves, and I’d say we’re now down to roughly $24m.  That’s for the rest of free agency and the draft.   How does $24m feel for the long grocery list of what we still want/need/have to do.   Feels incredibly difficult to me.   Hard choices to be made.  The hardest of Ballard’s career.

So I don’t see this as easy at all.  And I see nothing lazy or tired about not fully understanding this.   None of us are Cap Specialists who work for an NFL team, we’re not supposed to understand the complexity of this.

Sorry to get so triggered.  Sorry for the very long response.

Everyone is forgetting Patmon, who I think will get a shot this year. He was raw, but worked with Rivers and now is working with Wentz. He is tall, young and fast and continues to learn under Pittman, who considers him like a little brother.
