Tell me some of your favorite prospects for 2021

I'll be 100% honest with you guys I don't know near the amount of prospect this year as I have in the past 10 years. With the uncertainty at QB and not knowing what picks we would have I just  avoided looking into prospects plus the whole covid shortened season and guys opting out was just a mess to me. Now that we know what we have tell me some of your favorite prospects for the year. Early round guys mid and late so I can begin to binge some game film.

I'm a big fan of all these guys. I would add Jaelon Darden WR, North Texas, and Shaka Toney, DE PennState, Robert Rochell, CB. I think Dardon could be a good solution if Campbell can't stay healthy and I think Toney could be a good late round flyer on a potential undersized pass rush specialist. Robert Rochelle is a small school guy with all the physical traits Ballard loves.

The guy I really like will be long gone. Pitts from Florida. He's listed as a TE but he's really a big receiver and a huge mismatch anywhere on the field. Also like friemuth (sp), the TE from notre dame. Kadarious toney and nicole collins. And I like kyle trask. I just cannot  understand why he's rated so low. His pro day is going to be interesting.

In 3rd or 4th I like Spencer Brown if he's still available.  Late pick (6-7) I like Josh Imatorbhebhe.

Anyone have a good simulator draft site?   I've been using PFF but since they put the NEEDS in there and you cant take them out It show a bad grade unless you draft their need position

Walker Little, LT Stanford.  6' 7" 320 LBs.  I could really see Ballard surprising everyone with this pick.  He was a heavily recruited 5 star tackle from Texas who went to Stanford.  At the start of the 2019 season he was projected to be an Outland Trophy Winner and a top 10 draft pick.  He injured a knee in the 1st game of 2019 and missed the entire season.  In 2020 he opted out to concentrate on preparing for the draft after declaring for it in Sept 2020.  I believe the Pac 12 eventually cancelled their season due to Covid.  He has not played in two years but was considered one of the top tackles in 2019 before his injury.  He is the classic under the radar player who could turn out to be a real stud when he takes the field.

I think Little played in roughly 20 games,  with about 12-14 as actual starts over his time.    So, he has very little actual tape to grade.    Anyone drafting him will be working on mostly projection.    What might he be someday?    His medical reports will be HUGE for him.   Still,  I find it hard to see him going in the first round now unless he tests shockingly well in the next two months.

 

So, I see him more likely to be picked in the 2nd round...   or even the top of the 3rd if something doesn't go well (medical reports or athletic testing)    A real boom or possible bust for the team willing to gamble.    I hope we can grab him at pick 54,  but I'm not holding my breath.    He could easily be grabbed before that.   Or not.   He's a risk on a number of levels.

If the Colts go OT in the first,  then Turner is high on my wish list for our 2nd round pick.  

 

From what I read,  he has lots of the traits that Ballard values.    I think there's a good match for Turner and the Colts.

Yeah I finally got around to watching the tape and he definitely jumps out. I also thought about taking him in the 2nd. As you said, it’s a perfect match. Especially if Melifonwu (who is also a perfect match) is gone.

These are the guys I like that aren't really main stream media thoughts - obviously if Patrick Surtain was available, or Jaycee Horn then they would be the obvious choices, but, when you get deeper in the draft, these are my guys to compete for starting spots and/or beat out our depth players to make improvements at the margins!

 

Jacoby Stevens - LSU - Hybrid FS/SS/LB - 6'2" & 230 - lines up everywhere and covers ground and people - good at everything, not really great at one

Joshuah Bledsoe - Mizzou - Hybrid CB/FS/SS/NB - 6'0" & 200 - same thing as above - good at everything, not really great at one

 

Benjamin St-Juste - MN - CB - 6'3" & 205 - Senior Bowl highest rated CB - has all measurements

Ifeatu Melifonwu - Syracuse - CB - 6'3" & 213 - physical freak with all measurables

Israel Mukuamu - South Carolina - CB - 6'4" & 205 - long athlete could be used at safety as well

 

Jabril Cox - LSU - LB - 6'3" & 233 - good sideline to sideline athlete to add to the depth

 

Daviyon Nixon - Iowa - DT - 6'3" & 305 - can sub for the big man at UT and can come in at dime and rush the passer from the DT spot

Ronnie Perkins - OK - DE - 6'3" & 247 - rated as highest edge setter and pass rusher amongst this years edge rushers

Jordan Smith - UAB - DE - 6'7" & 255 - length and strength to go speed to power or vice versa

Quincy Roche - UM - DE - 6'3" & 245 - loved him at Temple before the transfer

Chris Rumph II - Duke - DE - 6'4" & 235 - I would comp him to Mathis - except Duke lined him up inside A LOT

 

Tommy Doyle - Miami (OH) - OT - 6'8" 328 - smaller school prospect but is long and strong

D'Ante Smith - ECU - OT - 6'4" & 290 - 35 inch arms with good feet, needs functional strength added

 

Ben Cleveland - GA - OG - 6'6" & 335 would make the Nelson move to LT palatable

Trey Smith - TN - OG - 6'6" & 330 would make the Nelson move to LT palatable

 

Tommy Tremble - ND - TE - 6'4" & 242 - Best athlete at ND, used almost exclusively as a blocker at FB/HB/Inline TE and is excellent at it, but would be an excellent "move" TE as well as he showed a bit of that there

Kylen Granson - SMU - TE - 6'3" & 235 - pure pass catching athlete - converted WR

Quintin Morris - BGU - TE 6'4" & 248 - pure pass catching athlete - converted WR

 

Tamorrion Terry - FSU - WR - 6'4" & 210 - "Scary Terry" takes the top off

Marquez Stevenson - HOU - WR - 6'0" & 190 - Combo of Darden and Terry - speed aplenty with some moves mixed in

I think we should consider drafting a hybrid SS/LB to pair with Leonard.  Maybe simply draft a new WILL, and move Leonard to MIKE. 

 

I think we can do better than Willis and Oke.  We still seem to give up too much in the middle, and having a stud Hybrid player matched with Leonard will better secure the middle of the field on all three downs.  JMO.  Then get another FS who would cheat to the deep side. (maybe that's Tell)  And Blackmon can cheat towards roam the underneath more like Bob Sanders used to.

 

If we went OT at 21, then a speedy back-seven hybrid guy at 54, that would be great.

 

Will have to do more study on the players you mentioned.

Like Cato June, Brackett and Sanders with Bethea over the top of them......could be why they have interest in Jacoby Stevens? Newer publications say he is playing at around 215 lbs now instead of 230.....could work!

Where did you find that the Colts were interested in Stevens?

For what it’s worth, Ballard has talked about the WILL as the key LB spot of the three.  As it is, when there’s only one LB on the field, it’s Leonard.   So he plays some MIKE. 
 

Ballard talks about the WILL as the key to the LBers as he does the 3Tech being the key to the DL.   Those are the top two spots on his defense.

In the pinned thread about players the Colts have expressed interest in.  There a post with a tweet and I think a link to a StampedeBlue story.  We’ve shown interest.

Agreed.  I think we need to get better at MIKE and SS more than we do at corner (provided Rhodes is resigned).  

 

With all of the talk about RYS and the need for upgrades at corner, I think getting a better LB to play with Leonard would advance the defense farther, where ever the two of them play.

I’m probably wrong...   but I don’t subscribe to the getting better at LB narrative.   
 

We have Leonard, Okereke, who I expect will get better, and I’m going to guess we go with either Speed or Adams and see if either of them can fill in for Walker who I don’t expect to return.   I think we give that a try for a year.
 

As I said, I’m probably wrong on this prediction.

Looks like Colts found my guy Moore, great interview lifelong Colts fan to boot, models game after Q and Peyton is his favorite player of all time...just seems like a perfect fit to me.
