Colts interested in Godwin, re-signing Hilton

Recommended Posts

Just the last few games of the Bucs I’ve been watching, he’s dropped a lot of passes.  He catches a lot of them too and still puts up numbers, but I saw a lot of passes hit the ground.  He’s most likely better than anybody we’ve got on the roster.  But I think Campbell has a potential to be similar to Godwin if he can stay healthy.

I don’t want anything to do with Godwin personally. He has had a good few years but has had injuries plus a lot of drops. To me he just isn’t worth the cost at all. Give me a big body Allen Robinson who has great hands if you are spending that type of money. Plus saying you want him and TY just doesn’t make sense.

While Godwin would be a nice addition, this rumor doesn't add up to me as I don't understand the point of paying big bucks to a free agent WR when our QB room and depth chart remains unsettled.

Only way I see this being in play is if Ballard is somehow able to get an established vet (e.g Derek Carr, Matt Ryan) via trade prior to the start of free agency and the focus turns to loading up for an immediate SB run.

I have a feeling that at least one other team is going to offer T.Y. more than Ballard is willing to match

same for Rhodes

I think we’re prepared to lose TYH.   But I don’t think we are with Rhodes.   I think this will be a real test for Ballard.

Ballard has said he has offered more to some free agents than he originally intended to.  But if the bidding keeps going up and uo, at some point he’ll bow out.

I think Rhodes will be an interesting player to re-sign.

I think w/ Rhodes it might come down to whether GMs think his 2019 season was a fluke, or whether his 2020 season was.

He would be a great pickup and true WR1.  But I think he will resign with the Bucs.  Especially if there is no clarity on who our QB will be.

I just looked him up and he is maybe a low level WR1, high level WR2.  Not worth 17 mil or whatever they are quoting for him IMO

4 years in the league and he only has 1 season with a 1000 yards receiving and it wasn't even this season.

Do like Godwin as a replacement for Hilton and was going to offer him a 5 year $83 million deal without incentives.  Can you imagine a 2016-2019 reunion if we added Jameis Winston as our QB.  Sad too many focus on Winston's INTs over what he done as a starting QB.  Would even throw in a box of crab legs to sign Winston cheap.

Samuel is only 24 and getting better every year. Hilton is on the 31 and on the decline.

Comparing apples to oranges with a deep threat route runner vs a slot receiver.  The Colts are already set with Pascal and Campbell at the slot.  Unless the Colts are thinking that Campbell is our outside threat receiver and Pascal stays at the slot.  Issue with Campbell is his health and don't see him sticking around much longer.  Godwin at least is an outside threat receiver this team really could use to incorporate some youth going forward.  Hilton played very well last year and hope he resigns on a hometown discount.

After seeing yesterday's SB, I feel like Godwin needs the Bucs more than the Bucs needed Godwin, especially if Antonio Brown and Gronk come back. I am thinking we should be able to get Godwin at a decent price.

Shaq Barrett, Lavonte David, Chris Godwin and Leonard Fournette will be the top 4 priorities for the Bucs and if I am them, and if I can get AB and Gronk to come back for cheap, I would put the money on Barrett and David first. If their OL protects Tom, then I see Tyler Johnson and Scotty Miller emerging more, the Bucs have options other than Godwin to be honest.

Godwin is a speedster that doesn’t run great routes. In a Arians (air Coryell) system last year he had a great year. Winston threw for a lot of yards but I doesn’t work IMO. Instead they get Tom and finally let him dictate some and he starts to shorten the field. Again Godwin to me is overrated and will want some serious coin and I would avoid it.

    • It would  be the rookie. We will see but I think smith will play. Lewis might miss.
    • The only two I feel might miss are Paye and Kenny.  I think everyone else plays.
    • Freeland wasn’t even active for the first three games.  I see Goncalves getting the reps not Freeland.
    • It’s unfortunate when they just got their first win. If Lewis and paye can’t go we basically only have one DE. No rotation so Steelers will just wear this term down. I was do excited for this game now I am really mad. I was really looking forward to it. The offense might be able to make up for defense but not if Kelly and smith can go.
    • This is where quality of your coach is so important.  And I think Shane is a quality coach to handle this situation.  Also I agree he is doing it right.  It's ugly, but he is balancing a big investment at QB with his job security which is very tough.   Running QBs often reach that point where the staff decides they are never going to learn to win from the pocket, and it is then you see the scheme revert back to college type approach and general simplicity to allow them to translate to the field.  But to get to that point you need to at least give the QB the opportunity.  Because once they do reach that point the team will usually be looking for another QB.   The way you build a perennial winner is finding a QB who can give you an edge from the pocket.  Given that, mobility and off schedule instincts are an advantage and desired.  But the latter will never trump the former because if your QB needs to be in space to see the defense and make his throws then defenses will be able to shut him down in the playoffs.  QBs like that don't win 3 or 4 games in a row against the best defenses in the league, which is required to hoist a Lombardi.   I mean look at Allen.  He developed the ability to win from the pocket.  He has had good teams around him.  He is a dominant run threat.  And he still has come up short in the playoffs.  When there are guys like him and Mahomes with rosters around them, you aren't gonna get past them with a QB who can't do the job from the pocket.
