If only this website had a poster who said in a series of threads that a trade wasn’t going to happen until next week.  Tuesday at the earliest, but W-Fr was very possible.  
 

A poster who reminded that Ballard himself said no trade today on Friday.  Who said it wasn’t going to happen Saturday or Sunday because of the Hall of Fame and the SB game.   Who said Monday wasn’t likely because the league wants the day after talk to be about the game.    If only....

By now they know they aren’t getting what they wanted. The longer they hold out the less they will get. Teams will look at other options and move on. So they would be stupid to hold out any longer. I read that the jets told teams that were interested in Darnold to hold off until Wentz was traded. I assume because they think they will get more.

If I'm Ballard I'm talking to the Jets right now.  I would offer them the same deal.  Our 21st and OKerke and Doyle for Darnold and their 2nd.  Assuming that's the package.  Could always change the players.  Could give them a 1st to help them get Watson.  Once the Wentz deal goes down the price for Darnold goes up.  Go for one or the other now.

Given the timeline of the team, finding out about Darnold, instead of trying to manifest winning with a guy who may or may not have it, with the expectation that he certainly does, because of trade capital and contract could be a better idea.

 

I've come around to this possibility, but Sam hasn't shown it yet. It'd get totally panned at first.
