Joe Burrow possibly serious leg injury

Recommended Posts

  • ColtsBlueFL changed the title to Joe Burrow possibly serious leg injury

That's why it's crap thinking to give up on a season like some like to do yearly for one player. You could get the player of your dreams and this happens.

And it's no guarantee he'll ever be the same or reach his full potential now.

Hope he comes back strong though.

Also tells you it’s not so bad being a pocket passer or a pass first QB that can occasionally get a first down with their legs. You cannot expect a rookie to put a team on his back.

He was fun to watch, hope he comes back real strong.

That is what made Luck special, he could carry a team and did for 3 years taking a pounding going 11-5, 11-5, 11-5. Most QB's can't do that being #1 picks on bad teams.

Out for the year, he couldn't even last a full season and people complain about Luck.

Having said that I like Burrow and hope he recovers 100%, the NFL isn't kind to most.

With the current situation

He could be on the shelf for awhile

It also illustrates why you are never 'just one player away'. Because with injuries being a 100% probability in the NFL, once you get your 'one player away' on the roster, another one (or two) players might be placed on IR.

Full team and roster development for me, not just a key piece, please.

Exactly. That was why I had to comment.

Jets are tanking and could get the Clemson kid and the future is golden... Until a random Sunday where you're franchise trajectory gets totally #ed.

Players just don't last physically. It's rare a guy is great for more than 2/3/4 years before a big injury sadly changes them in one way or another.

Gotta build that 'TEAM'.

I think it's an MCL and maybe even a contact ACL along with it.  :(

Darn, I called it (based upon video replays I saw on TV at the time).

"With both the MCL and ACL torn, Burrow is in for a lengthy rehab. For comparison, Carson Wentz suffered a similar multi-ligament knee tear on Dec. 10, 2017, and missed the first two games of the 2018 campaign." From NFL.com

I hope there's not any other damage in there that they're not letting out (like a meniscus, PCL, or posterolateral corner injury, etc).

Feel bad for the kid, and Bengals fans.

Yeah, a season ending injury sucks. Especially for #1 overall franchise rookie..... But he's  NOT DEAD! He'll  probably be back 100% next season or close to it.  I'm sure Bengal fans are glad they had the pick and used it on him AND Jet fans will be happy tanking for Lawrence(assuming he comes out) even if  he misses part of a season to injury.

What would suck for bengal fans and organization is if Burrow all of a sudden took the money and ran  and abruptly retired with no warning.

He's out for the year... and I hate the Bengals organization for it.

I think I read that you are also a Bengals fan. Right? When I saw that happen, it made me think of Teddy Bridgewater's injury. Hopefully Burrow will be back next season.

It also made me think of another Bengal #1 draft pick, Kijana Carter. You may be too young to know him. He was a great RB in college. He was picked #1 overall by the Bengals but he got injured early on in his first season and never showed the promise that everyone expected.

It seems that the Bengals have had the overall #1 draft pick several times. No?

My dad has mentioned him a few times. Yeah the Bengals have had their share of 1sts overall.

I remember another rising star for the Bengals, Greg Cook. Had the skills to be a hall of famer, but he injured his shoulder in a similar fashion to Luck. And that was in his third game of his rookie year.

The Brown family just doesn’t know how to take care of their QBs. You know it’s bad when your star player retires on purpose just to leave the organization and then sign with the Cardinals lol...

    • Anyone think there’s a chance he leaves San Fran? They’ve got a lot of decisions to make and can’t franchise tag him, as well as a very limited amount of cap space. We could certainly outbid them.    Imagine a left side of him and Big Q with Jonathan Taylor running behind them. We would easily have the best line in the game.
    • In Ballard I trust. He is intuitive and a consensus builder. This is a great opportunity to use this decision to refine your offensive strategy. Remember, Reich loves the RPO and what he could do with a mobile QB.
    • Ballard didn't say it was definite.   He didn't rule it out.   He just said as of this minute.    I think he's hoping to find out in April and May.      He still might end up deciding Eason is OK as the back-up.   I was only trying to impress upon those in the "Throw Jacob Eason in and see what we have" crowd that Ballard has crushed that dream for 2021.    But I wouldn't rule out 2022....  at least not yet.
    • TY - 2Y/22M - he can still play but he’s not Tyreek Hill taking the top of defenses anymore, and with his disappearing act at the beginning of the year I’m afraid to sign him any longer or with too much guaranteed. Partly for sentimental reasons I want him to stay, but I do think he’s still got some juice.    Mack - 1Y/1M - Likable player but due to his position and injury, no way can I justify giving him much more than vet minimum.    Houston - 1Y/8M - Fell off a lot this year compared to his first year. Still our best edge player, basically by default and I’d be hoping we can get a more 2019 performance out of him at arguably our weakest position on the team.    Autry - Walk. He will price himself out with an inflated sense of value because he’s gotten decent sack numbers, but he is the definition of JAG and I’d only keep him if he agreed to a minimum contract.    Rhodes - 1Y/6M - He was a stud this year. If we could guarantee that he won’t revert back to his last two years in Minnesota I would be willing to go longer and higher. With how much he fell off after getting paid the first time, I’m not giving him a long term deal.    Walker - 1Y/2M - He was playing a very small percentage of downs at the end of the year so I’m keeping him less based on ability and more based on leadership and football savvy.    Hooker - Walk. Both sides need to just move on. I’d keep him at minimum too but I think both sides want a fresh start. Also a little miscast in the current defense so no reason to force a square peg into a round hole.    Brissett - 1Y/5M - Too big of a fan of Brissett as a man to want to see him leave. I don’t want him starting but he’s a very solid backup and compared to the 20M we gave him last year, I can live with his salary being at 1/4 of that this year.    Pascal and MAC both tendered at 2.24M. I want to bring in Kenny Golladay or Allen Robinson and Pascal is JAG so he’s not falling into my future plans much. I’m a big fan of MAC and I wouldn’t mind seeing him play the Jack Doyle role. He’s a better blocker, has better hands, and is more explosive.    I may be lowballing some guys but I’d hate to fall into the trap of overvaluing our guys and keeping them just because you want to keep your own. Unfortunately, I think the five most important positions on the team also coincide with our five weakest positions on the team; QB, WR, CB, DE, and LT. Fortunately we’ve got a good cap situation and this is the perfect year to be needing a QB.
    • If we let Walker Walk, (and I think it’s likely) it’s not because we want an upgrade.   It’s because we simply don’t play him enough.   I think East Street has the numbers in snaps, but I think Walker is roughly playing 25-30 percent of the snaps.   That’s it.    We can't pay him enough for that.   Some other team will PLAY him more so they will PAY him more.    When Walker is off the field, we are either playing a 4-2-5 or a 4-1-6.   Leonard plays basically 100 percent of the snaps and I think Oke is about 55-60 percent.     There is a method to our madness.
