Yeah Blackmon has to be smarter than that. He’ll learn though.

Yea I'm sure he can clean it up some. It's gotta be kind of tough though when they are always trained to be lower to maintain leverage so the instinct is to drop as low as the ball carrier. Then that leads to some of this stuff where helmets can meet when both going that low.

IMO if Blackman isn't held accountable for his mistake, he learns nothing.

He is on an average of over a million a year. Him paying a $4200 fine is like us paying a high dollar speeding ticket.

Eh, it's more of an overreaction by the NFL because Lamar Jackson is one of their golden boys. The hit on Doyle was worse.

The fines on both are based on their incomes, not the severity of their personal fouls.

I could be wrong but I think all the personal fouls are fined in the NFL. With each occurrence it gets more expensive.

Unsure but i remember watching and i dnt think the ravens player got a personal foul, dnt believe a flag was thrown (could be wrong, but doubt it)

Lamar was going to the ground at the same time as that tackle by blackmon.

Unlike with Doyle who had clearly not caught that ball and that ravens defender definitely targeted him.

Still pisses me off.

regarding the hit on Doyle.... not sure the defender realized that Doyle didn't catch the ball. and even if he did, he also didn't lead with his helmet. blackmon led with his helmet, which is unquestionably a no-no.

not saying the fine wasn't justified, just not sure i totally fault the defender as if he did it viciously. IMO it was borderline and depends on what the defender truly saw and motivation. and we'll never know (unless he talked about it??)

I didnt hear him say anything just looking at that, and it was in slow motion so its not unlikely that it all happened too fast to adjust.

Yep. it was a big hit, but I just didn't see it as a vicious play real time. He led with his shoulder, and went high which is what you do if you're trying to disrupt a pass in that area. I think it was just timing. And even if you see him juggling, you don't want to give him the opportunity to somehow recover and pull it in.

Yeah I guess I would have been happy with a flag

    • Of course.   I don’t think I disagree.   But I think Ballard knows his players and if/when to gamble on bringing them back.     Not sure I follow your comment about the draft behind him with Pierce be the same as pass rusher?   Can you elaborate?
    • Last year was brutal for you?   Seriously?   Last year was one of the most enjoyable seasons of my 12+ years of Colts fandom!   A season where the Colts exceeded expectations while playing their backup quarterback.  Watching Steichen coach the heck out of this team!   A real pleasure.  Honestly.    And given the nature of how negative things are around here I’ll share a thought that I fully expect to get laughed at over… Ballard didn’t take the job over Luck.  Ballard took the job over Irsay.   I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Irsay, who had been a GM, then hired Bill Polian,  then Ryan Grigson who got exec of the year one year, then Ballard who also got executive of the year one year.   I don’t believe in coincidences like that.   Irsay knows the complexities of the job.   When Ballard took the job it wasn’t clear what was happening with Luck?   The one constant was Irsay.    Plenty of decisions were made with the trio…. Irsay, Ballard and Reich.     After the Luck retirement the Colts were in win-now mode.  They had a young team built to win and weren’t going to tell them the team was going to be in re-build mode for 2-4 years while a young quarterback learned on the job.     Things look obvious in hind sight.  The Colts plans were known in real time and they made what they felt were the only decisions that they could.   Try to win every year.  And part of the reason Ballard hasn’t been fired is that Irsay approved of those plans, he signed off on them.     Im sorry you may not watch this year.  Steichen is a really sharp guy.  Fun to watch.   I hope you’ll reconsider.
    • Anyone interested in the #3 position, the Patriots are considering trading down.  Send me a message if you’re interested.
    • not without risking him leaving. Of course. The argument could be made that the draft behind him in Pierce could be the same situation with a pass rusher.
    • That's cool!   I was fortunate enough to catch him on his last tour just before he passed. Great concert.
