Colts in first place in the AFCS (MERGE)

Recommended Posts

According to some:

Colts have no chance in this one

Tannehill is a franchise QB (actually he isn't, he is a game manager)

Rivers is washed up (actually he isn't, get your eyes checked)

Reich is a bad coach (actually some people's definition of bad is comical)

The Colts are going nowhere with this core (1st place)

- Now what?? Think before you post nonsense to some out there. Not only did we win but this was a blowout in the 2nd half lmao

Not too bad for a team with a GM who doesn’t know what he’s doing, a coach who can’t coach, a QB who had a noodle arm and can’t throw, a Number one WR who can’t play anymore, and an oline that isn’t g

Plus some of those rush yards were in garbage time. I thought we did relatively well against the rush. Henry is the top power back. He’s going to get yards. We kept him from breaking the game and that

Its good to see all the positive vibes here

Biggest win of the year by far. If we lose this it would've been bad haha . Now we are is great shape. We are now favored to win the division at 55/45%. If we would've lost it would've been 20/80% in Titans favor, that is how big that swing is.

Our Defense is pretty nasty! Stewart and Buckner together....woooweee

Hines came to play! He was the fastest guy on the field last night.

For awhile there I wasn't sure is Titans Specials Teams or Frank Reich was trying to give more points away.

Congrats to JB on his $7.5M touchdown lol

Good job to the team for finally putting two halves of a game together.

If we can somehow win these next two home games the hard part of the schedule is over. We don’t do well against elite QB so we will see what happens against GB. We need to stay consistent and stop with one good game one bad game. We should get Turay back next week too.

I've been harping on QB sneaks in short yardage situations for a while now.  Stats show that the simple QB sneak is the most likely play to succeed in those situations and it's not even close.  Jacoby is uniquely qualified to run the sneak given his strength and big body.

430 yards of offense. I think only two media people picked the Colts. I admit I was upset with Rivers when he hesitated to throw to his receiver in the end zone. A couple gifts tonight but they are a part of the game. Repeat at Indy in two weeks.

I believe he saw that defender lurking a few yards away.

Looks like Jacoby has locked up a contract extension, eh?

Once we straighten out those 5 areas, we'll be unstoppable!

Titans turned their attention to him so Rivers did the smart thing and threw to other wide open guys.  That’s the thing that Hilton brings that gets dismissed by so many here.  He’s still covered like a number one WR which opens up other guys in the offense.  One of the long throws tonight was cleared out by Hilton running pattern under it that drew the safety away from the guy who caught the pass.

This is absolutely true. I once said this offense didn't need TY and I was wrong.

When he's in the game he immediately draws the safety over leaving Johnson, Pittman or whoever in man coverage allowing Rivers a more favorable match-up.

He was sorely missed in the ravens game and you could see the difference last night with our offense

Good game but we gave up 160 yards of rushing. Need to clean that up

A decent chunk of those yards were when we were already 2 or 3 scores up in the 4th quarter and we were happy to let them run and run the clock. Henry did Henry and had 103 yards on 19 carries.... but the other 57 yards were essentially in garbage time.

We'd be a lot better team if we could consistently count on our running game instead of having to depend on screens and other stuff as a substitue for the ground game.  Hines was decent this game, but we aren't really getting much from anyone else.  Thought Wilkins was going to make a difference, but not significant enough and Taylor is still giving me question marks.  At the end of the day this is what is going to stop us from getting very far.  And I still think we need 1 more deep threat.   Glad we won though!

Counting down the days to when a hopefully healthy Campbell returns to this offense.... with Pittman starting to hit what looks like his stride and TY getting healthy and drawing coverage and opening up the rest of the receivers more too.

Sprinkle some Pascal, Johnson, Mo Ali Cox, Trey Burton and Demichael Harris into that - lovely stuff...

Still need that running game though. Its why we are doing more quick throw, possess the ball type stuff instead of going after the chunk plays. This offense is capable of scoring much more if we could get more from our ground game. Right now we are using our passing game to substitute for deficiencies in the run offense. The lack of ground game has taken away our playaction.

People can say what they want but the Colts are legit contender this season.

Contender when they win games and not when they lose.  Just before the Thursday night game yesterday, Troy Aikmen mentioned that this team should be 0-8 but somehow has 5 wins. lol. After we played a great game, he changed his tune.

The inconsistency on offense is the biggest limiting factor.  Everything you say is true. That said, having faith that we wont revert to what we showed in the Baltimore game, which was winnable had our performance not been so poor,  is just a bridge to far right now.

I'm always optimistic and if I can see an offensive identity develop over the next 4 weeks, preferably with a couple wins mixed in, I may drop a dancing banana.  Personally I'm still on the roller coaster.  Trying not to get to high or too low but somehow still managing to do both.

Great win tho!  Sets us up well to sweep the titans, hopefully the texans, and split with the jags.

I just don't care for Trolls, nothing personal but I will call some out when necessary. This is a Colts board not an opposing teams board . Some want to bring the nonsense, I will bring it back.

Troy Aikmen is in the running for dumbest person on TV. Which speaks volumes.

Balt is still like a tier below KC and Pitt but those 2 turnovers killed us

When push comes to shove, KC would be hard to keep up with. Steelers don't have the O like KC so beating the Steelers while difficult is more doable. Having said that, we seem to never beat them no matter the teams in any era.

    • I have no idea if this 100% true, but I believe Ballards intent was to re-sign Autry and Muhammed, and let Houston go for a high compensatory pick. Think about it, we already re-signed Muhammed. Before that, we tried to get Autry back, and he went with the Titans. Autry is younger, and he signed for 3 years $21,500,000. Houston is older, and will probably sign for a bit more a year. That means we would of not only got a younger player at EDGE, but we would of got a higher compensatory pick in that scenario.   Now Ballard didn't get Autry, is probably going to get a 5th for him or something along those lines, and has to decide whether to re-sign Houston for more, who is older, and not get the higher pick for him. After the draft, I believe you don't give or receive compensatory picks for signing FA's or getting your own signed. So that comes into play as well. Ballard has a big decision here, and he knows better than us if Houston is getting interest elsewhere right now, or if it's worth to sign him for another deal.    Heck, Balllard may be interested in an EDGE rusher on day 1. Never know. We'll see.
    • Would be a good deal for the Pats, not the most unbelievable trade either.
    • You ask a lot of good questions.    Unfortunately, I don't think that I, or anyone else,  has a lot of good answers.   Here's what I think we know.   Over The Cap has the Colts with just over $26 Mill.   Spotrac shows less,  and after the Carrie signing, I think we're going to be at $22.4 or so.   I also think we'd like to find a way to thread the financial needle and sign both Houston and Ertz (as a FA).   Even if you allowed $12 Mil for that, (Houston $7 mill and Ertz $5m)  that would leave us with roughly 10-$12 mill, give or take.   Currently, with our 6 picks,  Spotrac shows that will take roughly $6.5 to sign them.   But we all know Ballard has never had a draft class with less than 8 picks,  so expect two more, and that will bring the money needed to sign them to roughly $8 Mill.   Suddenly, we'd be down to $2-4 Mill and change.   Now, this is the part, where I don't know if @w87r  will step in for more financial adjustments that will show that we will have a few more $ than my math shows.    He's a wiz that way!      But typically, teams want 5-10% in reserve for in-season transactions.   BUT....   can you afford to have that much in reserve when your cap has shrunk to $185?     Yes?    No?    I don't know?     Who knows?   So....    lots of questions that need answers....    and we just don't know?    Both Houston and Ertz look like situations that might not resolve themselves until May......    So, we're left hanging....
    • I vaguely remembered something like this but misremembered that I saw it on Hard Knocks so figured it couldn't haven't been the Colts.   Now that you mention this though, I think you're right.
    • OK....    I thought what I was saying was pretty obvious, but perhaps not,  so I'll try again....   If Chris Ballard wants to blow up and destroy everything he's spent the last 4 years building, I can't think of anything that would do it better than what you suggest.   I'm NOT saying CB should give Q and Darius blank contracts and say "fill in with the numbers you want"....   but CB will re-sign them and they will be big and generous contracts done without a lot of public fighting (unless someone gets WAY out of line with what they're asking.   But I'm not expecting that.)   Ballard has built a franchise built on culture.   We talk about here.   The team talks about it non-stop.    It's buzzing all over the city of Indianapolis.   It's even now buzzing around the NFL.    To suddenly play hardball with your best players, or worse,  trade them because they don't play the right position,  would literally destroy what he's built.   Blow-up the locker room.  Undercut  the relationships Frank Reich has with his players.   The rest of the team would see how we treated Q and Darius and think....   "why should I play hard for this franchise?   F*** them!   I'll ask to be traded the first chance I get."   In case you haven't noticed,  players demanding to be traded has caught on in the NFL.   It's not just for basketball or baseball anymore.   Ballard would lose all credibility with everyone.   He'd have wasted his 4 years here.   Reich would be screwed.   The front office would be furious.   Irsay would likely want to fire him.   It would destroy this franchise.   Final thought....    since you love to throw around what Belichick does....    deal with this...   when the Patriots were winning Super Bowls and making deep playoff runs year after year...     do you know who some of the top players were, besides Brady?     Logan Mankins,  offensive guard.   Rob Gronkowski,  Tight End.    Vince Wilfork,  Nose Tackle.  Donte Hightower, Inside linebacker.    Four key players.    All paid very well.    All Belichick favorites.    None, with the possible exception of Gronk played a sexy, glamour position that you obsess about.       I expect to agree with NONE of this.    But as someone who covered the NFL for 30 years as a member of the media,  and has followed football as close as I could for 25 more years (55 in all)  this is my judgement what would happen if Ballard would do what you suggest.     Sorry.    Good luck.....
